BOILING BOILERS AND CRAZY HATS

I guess you should be careful what you wish for, or complain about. I noticed our heat stopped working a few days ago. I tried to play around with the thermostat and boiler switch but nothing worked. I had to call my Landlord (dad) to see if he could fix the problem, I told him not to rush as it’s supposed to be 70 out anyway. He stopped by while I was at work, when I opened my front door a gust of hot air slapped me in the face. He turned the thermostat to 50, but the heat didn’t shut off! I fiddled with it for 5 minutes and couldn’t get to turn off. I had to shut the emergency switch on my boiler.

My poor pup must have been hot in my 90 degree apartment all afternoon! He seemed okay though when I got in, my poor baby! The plumber came by about an hour after I called and he didn’t have the part on him to fix it that night, but at this point I was content with not having heat until next October! I really hope when I get home tonight, my apartment can be a normal temperature. As much as I wanted the warmer temps, I’ll pass on a boiling apartment!

I have Marathon Monday off, so I’m hoping the weather will be warm (BUT NOT TOO WARM!) so we can enjoy our walk down and beers along the marathon route. I hope I see a lot of runners with crazy hats because that was what I enjoyed most watching the marathon as a kid.

ROBOT WITH A SHOE-OBESSESION

I’m not into Valentine’s Day. Andy and I will usually go have a nice dinner someplace and call it a night. We also don’t have Valentine’s Day dinner on the actual day any more, who wants to pay more for the same exact dinner?! This year will be no different, we will probably have dinner Sunday night, since we have Monday off. Hopefully his cold will be better by then! Whenever he gets sick, I take Echinacea like a fiend. Gosh, I’m so romantic!

Sheldon-Cooper

I offered to pay for dinner, since my department won an achievement award and we each got a small bonus. I missed the award ceremony because I was forced into a four-day quarantine thanks to a blizzard. Don’t worry, I have a separate post reserved in hell for winter storm 2013. Andy refused the offer, and told me to use the bonus towards my turquoise love seat. At least Andy is romantic, I’m just a robot with a shoe obsession.

DRAGON ASS

The next couple of weeks will be draggin’ ass. I have 11 days off from work coming and it will be no fun waiting for stupid time to hurry it’s ass up so I can pretend I’m a teenager for a little while and just eat and sleep. Oh yeah, and also enjoy the holidays with family and friends. I haven’t asked for any “big ticket” items. I think I’m all set as far as the latest electronic gadgets and whatnot. I guess that makes me a terrible at pretending to be a tech blogger from my last post? My niece made an elaborate gift matrix for things she wants for Christmas. I wish I was that organized at that age! I also wish I took a picture if it, I was impressed.

Anyway, on to my usual weekend recap!

Andy and I decided to have a date night. I was going to try Hailo, but they failed us. I booked a cab and they confirmed only to call me when they were supposed to be arriving to cancel. So we decided to walk to the main road and hail one, and we were lucky enough to find one. I didn’t realize there was a tree-lighting happening around the corner. Once we were on our way, we tried Red Bones in Somerville. It was pretty good, but I definitely wish I got the steak instead of pulled pork. Oh well, I know better for next time. We also went bar hopping afterwards. Makes me sad the weekend is over, but I’m slowly on my way to 11 days off (PLEASE GET HERE FASTER!).

#BostonBloggers RECAP POST

I wasn’t feeling great last night, but glad I was able to head out to the Boston Bloggers holiday party. It was worth sitting on the hotter-than-hell bus to get there! At least I got to cool off for 10 minutes by getting lost trying to find Audubon Circle. Once there, I had a good time meeting bloggers! I missed the past couple of meet ups, so I was definitely happy to make it to this one.

I ran into Ginny, Jen, Kristin, Katherine, Lea, Phil, Lindsay, Janee, GregKhris, Allie, and lots of other awesome folks. We had lots of conversations about, gym memberships, cats, giant Christmas trees, bike vandal kids, and fashion bloggers. There were lots of really well-dressed fashion bloggers at the meet-up.

I always envy fashion bloggers because I lack the patience, dedication, and lots of other things to be one. I went to school for fashion and still wouldn’t dare become a fashion blogger. I work in a casual environment and I get up early. I lack the morning-personess to get up any earlier to find a cute outfit, put on make up, and take a picture for my blog (Deja-Vu?). Major kudos for those that do! Not to mention, Andy has grown an aversion toward being forced into taking pictures. He also manages to make them look blurry (possibly on purpose).  I don’t think I need to worry about offending him, he doesn’t read my blog (I hope)!

Anyway, I was a little out of it at the meet up. We were supposed to grab colored stickers to put on our name tag that corresponds with our blog-type (i.e fashion, tech, lifestyle, etc). I accidentally grabbed blue, which was tech. It was stressful to pretend being a tech blogger, I don’t know much  about gadgets or the iPhone 27! I also kept calling Phil, Greg. Sorry, Phil-Greg! At least I’ll never forgot that you not Greg.

As the evening went on,  my headache was slowly creeping back in. I decided to be prissy and take a cab home instead of the bus. I didn’t feel like bursting into flames on the bus and getting sued by the unfortunate Hipster-person next to me for burning his copy of Infinite Jest. Sorry for not giving my blogger-friends a proper good-bye!

Big thanks to Alison and Kate!

BEER, TURKEYS, REUNIONS, AND ANNIVERSARIES!

Having the past five days off form work has been less than relaxing to say the least. I started off with some Thanksgiving Eve drinks in my BF’s hometown. Our friend came back to visit from AZ, so it was nice to see him. I had fun except at the last bar we went to. It was too crowded and I got crammed into a corner right next to the entrance. This annoyed me to the point where I actually left the bar alone, and walked down the street to a less crowded Mexican place. I enjoyed a water and a margarita in that sparsely populated bar. It was so nice and relaxing! Then I psyched myself up to return to the bar I dubbed the “7th circle,” as we all thought it was like hell (or Burma). I had to go back before my boyfriend noticed I had been gone wandering alone, for close to an hour. Ooops!

Andy doesn’t like his picture taken. ;)

My camera is “too fancy” for Andy to operate correctly. He took a sequence of 20 photos before I told him to stop.

Beer. Yup.

I passed by a manger on my walk to the Mexican Pub. Someone already stole the baby Jesus!

I had a great Thanksgiving with my family. Thankfully, my nephews didn’t return festering with ticks this year. When I got home, I wasted no time putting up my Christmas decorations. We don’t have many ornaments, but were going next week for some.

Our “freeunion” HS reunion went very well. So well in fact, some have requested another meet up! It was great to catch up with people at a hometown bar without having to buy $75 tickets!

@ginntastic and myself!

Last night, Andy and I celebrated our nine year (NINE) anniversary. We tried this new Brazilian style steakhouse in Boston called, Fogo de Chao. I think the nine year anniversary should be the steak anniversary. It was delicious! You start at the unlimited salad bar. Then you get double-sided steak cards for when you’re ready for steak. When you flip them to green, waiters each toting different steaks, begin to appear at your table. They will slice you cuts of what you want. It was nuts! I tried about seven different kinds of steak. I finally had to flip my card to red so I could start trying some. My favorite was probably the bacon-wrapped filet mignon. It was a great night, it’s always fun to get dressed up!

New shoes and tights!

I love this new bag!

This picture sux because my “MySpace self-portrait” skillz are rusty.

Yummy martini and caramelized bananas!

HOW ABOUT A FREEUNION INSTEAD?

I’ve been wondering for the past couple of months when my 10-year (TEN YEAR) high school reunion would be. I figured I would get something on Facebook or in the mail. Nope, neither. Finally getting the better of my non-existent short-term memory, I remembered to Google it the other night. It turns out we do have a reunion planned, and for a mere $75 (SEVENTY-FIVE DOLLARS), I can be crammed into a painfully trendy bar with people I didn’t care enough about to keep in touch with. Sounds awesome, right? *crickets*

Thing is, I had no problem the other night spending definitely more that $75 on some new Coach bags (ON SALE). Yet, spending $75 on a reunion ticket just seemed ludicrous. I texted Ginny upon my Googled discovery. I had to see if it was only me that thought $75 was outrageous. Thank goodness for BFF’s, she agreed. Instead we’re just going to pick a bar in our hometown and send FB invites to people we like that we graduated with. How much will this endeavor cost? That all depends on how much cheap beer we plan to drink. Problem solved!

I FINISHED HARRY POTTER AND A POST UNRELATED TO THIS ACHIEVEMENT

I have been bit by the Christmas bug. I already bought my pre-lit tree (blue-of course!), stockings, tree topper, tree skirt, wreath (named her Wreatha Franklin), and mantle decorations. We’re not setting anything up until after turkey day. I think my tree is going to be smaller than I thought when it’s set, but I live in an apartment so I don’t exactly need a 7′ fir tree (maybe?). But I’ll be “nstagramming” the shit out of my living room once it’s all set up.

Andy and I don’t typically do couples costumes for Halloween. Read: he doesn’t do couples costumes for Halloween. This year I was R2D2 and he an Angry Bird. I found out last week, Angry Birds released a Star Wars edition of the game. Which is the awesomest thing EVER.  So HA, we did technically a couples costume this year. Now I have to somehow trick him into a couples costume for next year. This will not be easy. I can’t rely on the Angry Birds people to read my mind again.

I drove down to my BFF’s house 40 miles away this weekend. We always do sushi at the same place, and haven’t had sushi anywhere else that matches it. With Halloween being one of my favorite holidays, I got the “back by popular demand” Halloween roll. This place sometimes does really cool plate art. When my food arrived, I was a little confused. Is it a flying potato? Overweight bird? Nope, we concluded it was a ghost/angel since I got the Halloween roll.

The Great Ghoul of Sushi!

Once our bellies were full of delicious food, we rolled on over for some outlet shopping. One of the places we went was Coach. Mind you, I just got a new bag for my birthday a couple months ago. But, they lure you in with their coupons and sale prices. I couldn’t leave empty handed. I got a couple new bags. I know, I have no will power! Nope, none!

Now after shopping on Saturday night, most people would probably stop by some random place to get drinks. We are not most people. We went back to her area bought some perler beads, and did crafts in her basement. I know, we are sad people. But we enjoy our crafts! Check out the necklaces I made.

My friend made this Mario. We’re going to wear our Mario & Luigi necklaces to a show in a couple weeks.

I COULD USE MORE LONG WEEKENDS AND SCALLOPS

I had a fun long weekend which basically consisted of consuming mixed drinks with Red Bull and eating loads of scallops. We had some delicious Golden Temple food on Thursday. I’m still drooling for their fried scallops! I worked from home on Friday, which was good because there is always inexplicable traffic the Friday before Columbo’s Day. Anyway, that night was date night for the boyfriend and I. We went to a few bars in the area where we got tasty food and pumpkin beer tasters. I just love pumpkin beer!

On Saturday, we stayed close to the area for some more Chinese food and darts at a local bar. I made myself pass on scallops, shocking.

We don’t really even know how this happened, but it did!

I actually passed up Dexter on Sunday to head out for dinner and sake with my friend. We went to a great place called FuGaKyu in Brookline. We got a private room and gobbled up some tasty food! This time, I didn’t pass up on the scallops. I had a delightful spicy scallop roll. I just want to eat sushi everyday. I don’t care about all the mercury, I’m sure it’s fun to be mad as a hatter. I could only manage to do some shopping and watch Dexter on Monday.

ODE TO SEPTEMBER

I’m always surprised at how quickly summer passes. I had to quit flip flops this week, it’s so sad! September was a busy month with my birthday and all. Since I was sucky at blogging most of the month, I’ll do another bulleted recap with pictures. Oh my!

September:

  • Spending Labor Day with my BFF by the beach and pancakes from The Pancake Man. I posted some pics in my August recap.
  • Quality bowling time with my #VEDA-rans. Patrick made an awesome video of this! #VEDA- Day 38?

This place hasn’t been updated since the Reagan administration.

Can’t own boring bowling shoes

  • My sister surprised me with a massive amount of lawn flamingos for my bday. BEST.DAY.EVER!

  • I met Wakefield from the Sox. Super nice guy!

  • Headed to Maine for some bday fun that involved outlet shopping, seaside dinner, and seaside drinks. I have better pics on my Nikon, but I’ve been too lazy to upload them.

Good nomz

I just love Maine…

  • I had a (mostly) lovely bday outing at Yard House. I’m glad my friends were able to make it and the food was good. We did have a bad waitress though. I complained to the GM and she worked with us to be sure we were happy. I wrote a Yelp! review on it and I’m over it already. I just hope she finds another career path, for the sake of other patrons!

  • Andy got me an Xbox Kinect for my bday with a dancing game. My BFF stayed over after my bday outing and we DANCED OUR FACES OFF most the following day to the gift she gave me, Michael Jackson: The Experience. It’s seriously the best game ever!
  • We had some adventures with creeper dog.

  • Andy and I had a pretty chill past weekend. We went to party, got some more Kinect games, and WATCHED DEXTER!

MY CAMERA THINKS I’M ON A BOAT.

Is it sad that I’m still tired from Sunday night?! I had a fun weekend and I should blog about it before #VEDA starts tomorrow. On Saturday, I went to see Alexz Johnson. That girl has just an amazing voice! I spotted her in the audience for a minute taking pictures of the opener. I figured she wouldn’t play anything from Instant Star, but that’s fine. I liked what she did play, and I downloaded some of her songs. I would definitely see her again. I felt bad for Andy though, he had to go with me since my friend couldn’t make it. She went to the ER for a crazy migraine she has had for 2 weeks, YIKES! She was still considering going, but I told her  live music and a 40 mile drive probably wouldn’t be ideal for a migraine. After the show we met up with friends for drinks and darts. I mostly watched the Olympic men’s gymnastics though. Could you blame me? ;)

Sunday was another great day, Ginny and I made our 7th grade dreams come true. We saw Our Lady Peace! It was an amazing show, they even did 2 encores! It was great to see them, even if it was 15 years later (OMG). Our friends B and M went to their show in 1997 and neglected to invite Ginny and myself, how rude. I’m glad we finally got our 7th grade revenge, haha! I think our tickets should have been marked “Obstructed View” though. We got to the show early enough to scout a spot near the bar and bathrooms. Unfortunately, some tall and large-headed people shoved their way in front of us. I wish they had some consideration for us short folks that were there first.I mean, they could easily see over us. I had to hold my phone and camera well above my head to take pictures. At least it was a good workout for my triceps. Aside from the big heads, it was a good time. I was happy they played 3 of my favorite songs and the encores were just so amazing.

Andy got tickets to another show for this Friday, and I’m taking my friend to Cirque for her bday on Saturday. Her birthday was in March, which is when I bought the tickets. It’s going to be so much fun! This will mark my 4th time at a show, each time just gets even more amazing than the last.

Now for pictures! I brought my new Nikon to OLP, but some of the pics came out blurry so I’ll just post phone pictures. It turns out I had it on some weird setting for when you’re on a boat, and that made the pictures blurry. It should be fixed now, I just wish I knew that beforehand. Oh well!
