THE D WORD

I’ve been really good about working out 6 days a week for the past few months, but I’ve only lost about three pounds. My goal was to lower my cholesterol (done and done!) and lose the 9 pounds I’ve gained over 1-2 years. I have a lot of jeans, so I really don’t want to get rid of any. I’m getting close to the point of splitting them! While exercising more has definitely helped lower my cholesterol, it hasn’t done a whole lot in the weight-loss department. So, I’m setting a new goal to be back to my normal weight by the time I go to Florida.

I first heard of My Fitness Pal over a year ago but never gave it much thought. A friend of mine at work starting using it and explained it to me. I downloaded the app to my phone and gave it a try. Not going to lie, I’ve really taken to it! I might be addicted to recording my calories and trying really hard to stay within the suggested daily range. I’m also a bit taken a-back by exactly how many calories are in my go-to foods. You can also use it as a workout log.

Anyway, I entered my goal weight, along with my actual weight, height, and age. From there it calculated what my daily calorie intake should be. It also has a bar-code scanner to make it easier to enter the calories. But you can also use the search tool to log what you’re eating with the estimated calories. Personally, I think the number it calculated from me is ridiculous. I also don’t understand how anyone could possibly deal with only consuming that amount, but I’m making it work.

I’m only on day five of my new diet, and I’m usually ready to eat the walls by the afternoon. I’m not one to ever pre-plan my meals, but the app does make it easier to see what I can have throughout the day. It’s really just portion control, which I’m not used to at all. I also think it’s freaking ridiculous what most items consider one serving?! Saturday night was hard for me, I was trying to save up all my calories for delicious Chinese food and beers. Through some miracle, I managed to stay within the suggested range. Going out for dinner and drinks makes this diet crap more difficult. Not sure how long I’m going to last, but if I see some results soon, I’ll keep with it. Otherwise I’m just going to kick this app into a pile of macaroni and cheese and eat it!
