We encountered a real bear on Saturday morning, as he ran into the woods!

This post is about my awesome bachelorette party weekend. There were tons of penis decorations, which I was fine with. I just didn’t want a REAL stripper, and thankfully there wasn’t one! The house we rented in the White Mountains of New Hampshire was awesome! It has 5 bedrooms and fire pit area outside. We did a lot of fun things. One of my favorites was decorating our sashes for a night in the town.

We spent the first day by the pool and did some light shopping. After I got back, my friends decorated the house and it looked awesome! We stayed by the fire that night, and we named our inflatable man Bernie. Thus began weekend at Bernie’s!

On Saturday, we were supposed to go do the ropes course and zip-lining. But a lot of us were feeling a bit under the weather, so we decorated our sashes and decided to the sky gondola ride at the ski resort. The ride involved getting into these pods that brought us up the mountain. Once we got to the top, there were a bunch of things to check out. Apparently there was a wedding happening at the ampitheater area, which looked seriously awesome! The only draw back to getting married up there, is your guests would need to take a 15 minute gondola ride up each way. My relatives would freak out. Anyway, the only thing I didn’t like was the caves. They looked more like rock formations, not caves. Also, too many freaking stairs. No thanks!

That night, we went out to dinner and annoyed the guests at a local Mexican restaurant. We got all decked out in our bachelorette swag and hit the mountain town. We brought Bernie along to the restaurant. He was a hoot! A kid at a neighboring table was fascinated with Bern-Man, they were the same height. When we told his parents his name is Bernie, they definitely picked up on the movie reference. SCORE!

After scaring away all the patrons at the restaurant, we went to a brewery/inn/bar. It was a happening place with an 80s cover band and good brews. I made some friends, and I may need a restraining order from this woman that was fine at first, but then wouldn’t leave me alone. But that’s a tale for another time. It was such a great weekend, and I love my friends for making this the best weekend ever. Now I’m aboard the struggle bus from being tired.

Since I’m not 21 anymore, I don’t end up doing much on St. Patrick’s Day. Typically, I’ll have an early-ish dinner with a couple drinks and go home. But not this year! My friend Patrick was in town from DC, and I haven’t seen him in a long time. So I felt it my duty to show him a good ol’ fashioned Boston St. Patrick’s Day. We ended up at my local watering hole, because it was our friends birthday. So Patrick got to meet my friends and celebrate with us. We managed to get the coveted corner spot. It’s ideal because people generally won’t try to cram themselves there to get drinks, and we have quick access to the bar.

The roving bagpipers came by again. I feel like for the past 3 or 4 years I’ve witnessed a group of bagpipers, go to different bars on St. Patrick’s Day and play a quick set before heading to another bar. This has happened to me numerous times. Maybe I’m being followed?! Anyway, they did a good job.

We also had Andy’s friend Doug visiting us. He was wearing kilts all weekend, so he had no problem jig dancing to their music. They actually came by a few times throughout the night. I stayed out a bit later than I intended, but I was having a good time. One of my neighbors even turned up, and we did a shot of whiskey.

The people-watching was prime. I mean, that’s the main reason to go out on St. Patrick’s Day in Boston. You have to watch all the drunken shenanigans go down. I think I did a decent job of showing Patrick and Doug a typical Boston St. Patrick’s Day. Although, there was no green puke in the streets when we rambled out the door.

Doug had tickets to the Dropkick Murphy’s show on Saturday. He had an extra ticket, so my friend Fiona was able to join us for the show. Doug had good tickets, we were in the floor section! I had a good time at the show. The two openers were fun, they got the crowd all pumped.

We didn’t have seats, so everyone in the floor section was standing around. This was good for dancing. There were also people moshing. But it wasn’t aggressive moshing, it did make me nervous to get bowled over. So I hid behind Andy, haha! It was good I did, because a big guy actually got knocked down and had to be brought away. He wasn’t maliciously pushed, he just lost his balance while he was moshing around. At the end of the show, the band had their whole family on stage for the encore.

Although I had a very “Boston” St. Patrick’s Day, I stopped short of going to the parade on Sunday. I’m not a parade person to begin with, and the gay veterans weren’t allowed to march (they ended up being allowed, but it was a big controversy at first) so the fact that was even an issue left a bad taste for me.  I spent my Sunday watching Beauty & the Beast. I actually really liked it. But I honestly haven’t seen the cartoon version since I was a kid, so I don’t know how close it was to that version. Doesn’t matter to me anyhow. I’m going to see it again at some point, with my friend Erin.

Saturday was an interesting night. Andy and I wanted to grab some burgers and booze for dinner. We had plans to see a friends cover band play in the area. We didn’t intend to stay for the whole set. The cover band was playing in the Foundation Room of the House of Blues. Meanwhile, down in the actual concert venue, Rick Astley was having a concert. I guess it was the last night of his tour for a while. We watched him on the TV’s upstairs, and they piped in the concert audio for us.

I give Rick a lot of credit. He played a 45 minute encore! Once his show was done, the cover band started to play. They were good, loads of Step Brothers references thrown in, they won me over just on that alone. About an hour into their set, none other than Rick Astley himself shows up. He asked to play with the band (Mr. Doubtfire) for a bit. This was a huge surprise, and we weren’t being Rick Rolled. I figured he would play a few songs, and be on his way. His tour manager told us they had to leave back to England early in the morning, so he was trying to keep Rick on a tight schedule.

It was quite the spectacle to see Rick Astley basically have a private concert for us. There was probably only about 40 or 50 people at the Foundation Room. I have to give him serious props, he played various cover songs with Mr. Doubtfire for a good hour and a half before calling it quits. So much for trying to leave early! We stayed until almost closing time. Which means there was a huge line for hot dogs when we left, so we couldn’t get any food from Sausage Guy. Bummer! But hey, we got a free private concert from Rick Astley, so I can’t complain.

I rung in the new year with a light up skirt

New Years Eve has come and gone. This year we went to the Green Briar. It wasn’t super crowded, which was great! I also rocked a light up skirt, it was a big hit. Some people stopped me to take pictures of the light up marvel too. Haha!

We had a good group going. We snagged a couple of corner tables, so we could have space to put our jackets. This was key, since there wasn’t a coat check. I also hoarded some new years swag in my coat, that I  (of course) forgot about. Oh well, I’ll save it for next year.

I’m not really doing resolutions. But I’ve completed some 30 Day Fitness Challenges before, on an app. So I’m going to pick a new one each month to do. That should keep me busy for a while. I know it will be impossible to do the challenge every single day in 2017, but I’m going to do as much as I can. I like the app because it reminds you to use it everyday. Handy!

Know what grinds my gears? When songs tell me what to do. I’m like, GFY, I’ll do what I want, asshole. Lately, I’ve been forced by my local radio station to endure 21 Pilots song, Heathens. Oh I’m sorry, “TWENTY ØNE PILØTS” *cough*.

All my friends are heathens, take it slow
Wait for them to ask you who you know
Please don’t make any sudden moves

This song unnerves me. Not that it’s necessarily a bad song, but I don’t appreciate being told what to do. First of all, I’m expected to believe the two guys pictured above have shit loads of friends “on the inside”? Insert laughy face emoji here. Not only that, they have the nerve to tell me how to behave around said “friends.” Yeah, I don’t think so, Tim.

Listen guys, if I want to meet your friends, I’m going to be myself. If I feel like flailing my arms, do some jumping jacks, climb walls, do a back flip, Imma do it. Except maybe the backflip part, that sounds painful. But also, I may even toss in some rapid-fire questions as well. They can answer, or not, I don’t really care. I’m only asking the rapid-fire questions, because you told me not do that.

Sorry blog, I’ve been neglectful! I’ve been enjoying summer and haven’t made time for blogging. But I took an early lunch from work, and am currently sitting at the sketchy gas station to get an inspection sticker for my car. The attendant is blasting mariachi music from his phone, and giving me the low-down on the lady that just got pulled over nearby.

So I guess that means now is the perfect time to blog! Except, blogging about what I’ve been up to the last few weeks seems exhausting. So instead, I’m going to snark the shit out of the lyrics to “Gives you Hell” by All-American Rejects. Why am I so annoyed by a single that was released in 2007ish? I can’t be sure. When it first came out, I didn’t pay much attention to the lyrics. But now my local alt-rock station insists on playing it 3x a day, so I’m forced to listen. For the sake of brevity, I’m only posting parts of the lyrics here.

Gives You Hell-

All-American Rejects [Well reject is already in your name, so you got me there!]

I wake up every evening [Wow, so you slept all day? You sound like a huge winner already! #sarcasm]
With a big smile on my face [Eww.]
And it never feels out of place [Ha, like presumably your wardrobe?]
And you’re still probably working
At a nine to five pace [Hold up, are you seriously trying to make fun of someone for HAVING A JOB?! What the fuck did you ever do with your life, aside from writing shitty lyrics? She sounds like a strong independent woman (or man, if that tickles your fancy).]

I wonder how bad that tastes [LOL, well he/she isn’t dating your loser-ass anymore. So I’m sure it tastes like the best fucking chocolate cake they’ve ever had!]
When you see my face
Hope it gives you hell
Hope it gives you hell [Again, LOL! Yeah, wanna run the hell away to avoid having an awkward conversation with you. Also to avoid smelling your BO from not having showered, since you slept 48 hours straight.]

Now where’s your picket fence love [He/she is working on it. They have that thing, it’s called a JOB.]
And where’s that shiny car [Probably driving it around. Meanwhile, you’re sitting at a bus station with a stained shirt, since your mom forgot to do your laundry.]
And did it ever get you far [Uh, yeah. Have car, will travel.]
You never seemed so tense love [He/she probably wanted to get as far away from your stench as possible. I’d be tense too, tensely plugging up my nose!]
I’ve never seen you fall so hard [You’re probably confusing their sympathy for you, with “falling so hard”. Narf!]
Do you know where you are [Yep, that shiny new car has GPS. They were able to add it on…ya know…with money from that job thing.]

And truth be told I miss you
And truth be told I’m lying [Well, which is it?]

If you find a man that’s worth a damn and treats you well
Then he’s a fool you’re just as well [Well that is just mean. This person who broke up with you, sounds way to good for this shit. You should be happy they have found someone that isn’t a loser. Also, maybe use that as a jumping off point to get a job, take a shower, move out of  your mom’s house, get a car?]

Tomorrow you’ll be thinking to yourself
Where’d it all go wrong? [Yeah, probably questioning why they ever dated you in the first place. Cuz their life is pretty awesome without you leeching off it.]
But the list goes on and on [What list? We know it wouldn’t be a grocery list, because you probably don’t have that kind of money.]

Now you’ll never see
What you’ve done to me [LOL, except these shitty song lyrics are pretty evident.]
You can take back your memories
They’re no good to me [I’m sure they want to “Eternal Sunshine” you from memory. I don’t even know you, and I want to do the same.]
And here’s all your lies [Well nobody is perfect. He/she was likely trying not to hurt your feelings.]
You can’t look me in the eyes
With the sad, sad look
That you wear so well [haha, it’s called feeling sorry for you.]

When you hear this song
I hope that it will treat you well [Bravo! You’re starting to show signs of maturity.]

You can sing along
I hope that it puts you through hell [Well now you just lost the half point for maturity. I’m sure they’ve never heard your shitty song, so moot point there, adolescent.]

Saturday was a busy day. For one, we saw Soul Asylum that night. We started off with dinner and drinks at Rock Bottom.  I haven’t been there in a long time,  but I was a bit disappointed.  First, their beer list is tiny! I don’t remember it being so small before. Plus it took quite sometime for a server to acknowledge our table. The food was pretty good though, at least.

We ended up getting out of dinner later than expected, due to the slow service. So we missed a couple songs from the set. We were also surprised to find Soul Asylum wasn’t the headliner. This sorta blew my mind! The English Beat were the headliners instead. Too be honest we had never heard of them.  So riddle me that.

The show itself was good though. The venue (Royale) sort of reminded me of Lupo’s in Providence, only a bit smaller. They are pretty strict with the shows starting and ending on time, as the venue also doubles as a night club. The club part is definitely not my scene,so I wouldn’t be going back for that, haha
