DOESN’T ANYBODY EVER KNOW (HOW GA TICKETS WORK)?

20171026_124837.jpg

Some pictures from the Our Lady Peace show, yes I did take a picture of the giant guy I was stuck behind.

I went with a couple of friends to see Our Lady Peace this week. It was a good show, I saw them before. I just don’t like this particular venue. I’ve been to shows there dozens of times, and I concluded I can’t pretend to like it anymore. The acoustics are off, and the layout is terrible. They also lack good temperature regulation, it’s always sweltering. Also, the women’s restroom on the first floor is usually disgusting, the one on the mezzanine area is okay enough at least. But good luck trying to get to the mezzanine from the ground though.

Much better view after we moved spots!

I think the venue needs to be remodeled as they have these GIANT posts next to the stage which impairs people from being able to see the whole stage from the sides, which is very limiting for a sold out show. It is also general admission, there is no seating in the venue.Anyway, we spent the first half of the show in our obstructed view area. Not only was there a post in our way, I  got stuck behind Andre the Giant. The band had a brief intermission. We used this moment to move spots,  only seeing the guitarist was annoying.

The band came back on, and we liked our new spot much better. Then a crowd of people from Buffalo plowed through the area and bumped into my friend Ginny a few times. She called out “what the hell” or something to that sense, since nobody said “excuse me” as they shoved through. They came back around and one of them complained to my other friend Fiona that we “stole their spot, but it’s fine”. To which she retorted,  “yes, it is fine!”

That shut them right up. I don’t think people really understand how general admission tickets work. If I leave my spot for any amount of time, I don’t expect it will still be there when I return. Also, if you go to a show with a huge group of people, you best choose a venue with assigned seating. You honestly can’t expect your large group will remain together. But apparently this is a difficult concept for people to grasp. Despite the annoying people and sweltering heat, we enjoyed the show. We grabbed a night cap afterwards and I got a ride home.

LET’S SKATE?

20171012_090441.jpg

So for the first time since 1997, my friend Jamie and I went rollerskating over the long weekend. We were definitely the oldest people there without kids, at the skating rink. That didn’t stop us! Neither of us fell, which was awesome. I actually was able to skate, I remembered it quite quickly. I don’t think I would have been as successful if I had attempted roller blades instead. After skating, we went to a cute shop where I got a couple pairs of sunglasses and some jewelry.

After burning calories gliding around on skates, we had a delicious meal. It was at a flatbread pizza place. We had to wait for a table, as it was a happening spot. The food was really good, so I understand why there was a wait. I felt bad though, I barely made a dent in my giant hunks of fried chicken and I couldn’t take it home with me since we were heading out for drinks after dinner.

After dinner, we went out for nitrogen ice cream. It was delicious! I got the cake batter flavor. As if the ice cream place wasn’t awesome enough, they have a speakeasy in the back!!

I did the honor of turning on the light, for delight! A window swung open, and we were greeted with a bartender. He checked our ID’s, and showed us to an empty spot at the bar. It’s not a place where you can just stand around, you have to have a seat. It was very cool! I think next time we’ll eat there instead of the pizza place, so we can sample their cheese platters and such.

To complete our adventure, we went to a brewery. I actually really liked it. Unlike tons of other breweries out there, the beer wasn’t hoppy (unless you selected the beer in the “Hoppy” section). I was very happy with our brews. We listened to some live music before closing our adventure.

IT’S LIKE WEEKEND AT BERNIE’S, BUT WITH ACTUAL BEARS

20170801_074027

We encountered a real bear on Saturday morning, as he ran into the woods!

This post is about my awesome bachelorette party weekend. There were tons of penis decorations, which I was fine with. I just didn’t want a REAL stripper, and thankfully there wasn’t one! The house we rented in the White Mountains of New Hampshire was awesome! It has 5 bedrooms and fire pit area outside. We did a lot of fun things. One of my favorites was decorating our sashes for a night in the town.

20170801_073927

We spent the first day by the pool and did some light shopping. After I got back, my friends decorated the house and it looked awesome! We stayed by the fire that night, and we named our inflatable man Bernie. Thus began weekend at Bernie’s!

20170801_073817

On Saturday, we were supposed to go do the ropes course and zip-lining. But a lot of us were feeling a bit under the weather, so we decorated our sashes and decided to the sky gondola ride at the ski resort. The ride involved getting into these pods that brought us up the mountain. Once we got to the top, there were a bunch of things to check out. Apparently there was a wedding happening at the ampitheater area, which looked seriously awesome! The only draw back to getting married up there, is your guests would need to take a 15 minute gondola ride up each way. My relatives would freak out. Anyway, the only thing I didn’t like was the caves. They looked more like rock formations, not caves. Also, too many freaking stairs. No thanks!

That night, we went out to dinner and annoyed the guests at a local Mexican restaurant. We got all decked out in our bachelorette swag and hit the mountain town. We brought Bernie along to the restaurant. He was a hoot! A kid at a neighboring table was fascinated with Bern-Man, they were the same height. When we told his parents his name is Bernie, they definitely picked up on the movie reference. SCORE!

20170801_074337

After scaring away all the patrons at the restaurant, we went to a brewery/inn/bar. It was a happening place with an 80s cover band and good brews. I made some friends, and I may need a restraining order from this woman that was fine at first, but then wouldn’t leave me alone. But that’s a tale for another time. It was such a great weekend, and I love my friends for making this the best weekend ever. Now I’m aboard the struggle bus from being tired.

THE MOST BOSTON ST. PATRICK’S DAY

wp-1490028709701.jpg

Since I’m not 21 anymore, I don’t end up doing much on St. Patrick’s Day. Typically, I’ll have an early-ish dinner with a couple drinks and go home. But not this year! My friend Patrick was in town from DC, and I haven’t seen him in a long time. So I felt it my duty to show him a good ol’ fashioned Boston St. Patrick’s Day. We ended up at my local watering hole, because it was our friends birthday. So Patrick got to meet my friends and celebrate with us. We managed to get the coveted corner spot. It’s ideal because people generally won’t try to cram themselves there to get drinks, and we have quick access to the bar.

The roving bagpipers came by again. I feel like for the past 3 or 4 years I’ve witnessed a group of bagpipers, go to different bars on St. Patrick’s Day and play a quick set before heading to another bar. This has happened to me numerous times. Maybe I’m being followed?! Anyway, they did a good job.

We also had Andy’s friend Doug visiting us. He was wearing kilts all weekend, so he had no problem jig dancing to their music. They actually came by a few times throughout the night. I stayed out a bit later than I intended, but I was having a good time. One of my neighbors even turned up, and we did a shot of whiskey.

The people-watching was prime. I mean, that’s the main reason to go out on St. Patrick’s Day in Boston. You have to watch all the drunken shenanigans go down. I think I did a decent job of showing Patrick and Doug a typical Boston St. Patrick’s Day. Although, there was no green puke in the streets when we rambled out the door.

wp-1490028814377.jpg

Doug had tickets to the Dropkick Murphy’s show on Saturday. He had an extra ticket, so my friend Fiona was able to join us for the show. Doug had good tickets, we were in the floor section! I had a good time at the show. The two openers were fun, they got the crowd all pumped.

We didn’t have seats, so everyone in the floor section was standing around. This was good for dancing. There were also people moshing. But it wasn’t aggressive moshing, it did make me nervous to get bowled over. So I hid behind Andy, haha! It was good I did, because a big guy actually got knocked down and had to be brought away. He wasn’t maliciously pushed, he just lost his balance while he was moshing around. At the end of the show, the band had their whole family on stage for the encore.

Although I had a very “Boston” St. Patrick’s Day, I stopped short of going to the parade on Sunday. I’m not a parade person to begin with, and the gay veterans weren’t allowed to march (they ended up being allowed, but it was a big controversy at first) so the fact that was even an issue left a bad taste for me.  I spent my Sunday watching Beauty & the Beast. I actually really liked it. But I honestly haven’t seen the cartoon version since I was a kid, so I don’t know how close it was to that version. Doesn’t matter to me anyhow. I’m going to see it again at some point, with my friend Erin.

RICK ROLLED IRL

wp-1487787139778.jpg

Saturday was an interesting night. Andy and I wanted to grab some burgers and booze for dinner. We had plans to see a friends cover band play in the area. We didn’t intend to stay for the whole set. The cover band was playing in the Foundation Room of the House of Blues. Meanwhile, down in the actual concert venue, Rick Astley was having a concert. I guess it was the last night of his tour for a while. We watched him on the TV’s upstairs, and they piped in the concert audio for us.

I give Rick a lot of credit. He played a 45 minute encore! Once his show was done, the cover band started to play. They were good, loads of Step Brothers references thrown in, they won me over just on that alone. About an hour into their set, none other than Rick Astley himself shows up. He asked to play with the band (Mr. Doubtfire) for a bit. This was a huge surprise, and we weren’t being Rick Rolled. I figured he would play a few songs, and be on his way. His tour manager told us they had to leave back to England early in the morning, so he was trying to keep Rick on a tight schedule.

It was quite the spectacle to see Rick Astley basically have a private concert for us. There was probably only about 40 or 50 people at the Foundation Room. I have to give him serious props, he played various cover songs with Mr. Doubtfire for a good hour and a half before calling it quits. So much for trying to leave early! We stayed until almost closing time. Which means there was a huge line for hot dogs when we left, so we couldn’t get any food from Sausage Guy. Bummer! But hey, we got a free private concert from Rick Astley, so I can’t complain.

NEW YEAR AND SUCH

I rung in the new year with a light up skirt

New Years Eve has come and gone. This year we went to the Green Briar. It wasn’t super crowded, which was great! I also rocked a light up skirt, it was a big hit. Some people stopped me to take pictures of the light up marvel too. Haha!

We had a good group going. We snagged a couple of corner tables, so we could have space to put our jackets. This was key, since there wasn’t a coat check. I also hoarded some new years swag in my coat, that I  (of course) forgot about. Oh well, I’ll save it for next year.

I’m not really doing resolutions. But I’ve completed some 30 Day Fitness Challenges before, on an app. So I’m going to pick a new one each month to do. That should keep me busy for a while. I know it will be impossible to do the challenge every single day in 2017, but I’m going to do as much as I can. I like the app because it reminds you to use it everyday. Handy!

I HATE WHEN SONGS TELL ME WHAT TO DO

mgid-uma-video-mtv

Know what grinds my gears? When songs tell me what to do. I’m like, GFY, I’ll do what I want, asshole. Lately, I’ve been forced by my local radio station to endure 21 Pilots song, Heathens. Oh I’m sorry, “TWENTY ØNE PILØTS” *cough*.

All my friends are heathens, take it slow
Wait for them to ask you who you know
Please don’t make any sudden moves

This song unnerves me. Not that it’s necessarily a bad song, but I don’t appreciate being told what to do. First of all, I’m expected to believe the two guys pictured above have shit loads of friends “on the inside”? Insert laughy face emoji here. Not only that, they have the nerve to tell me how to behave around said “friends.” Yeah, I don’t think so, Tim.

tenor

Listen guys, if I want to meet your friends, I’m going to be myself. If I feel like flailing my arms, do some jumping jacks, climb walls, do a back flip, Imma do it. Except maybe the backflip part, that sounds painful. But also, I may even toss in some rapid-fire questions as well. They can answer, or not, I don’t really care. I’m only asking the rapid-fire questions, because you told me not do that.
