DEER IN THE HEADLIGHTS

My face when someone asks about wedding plans

Ugh, I was doing SO GOOD at blogging a few times a week. Then I got all stressed out about  moving and neglected my blog. But I moved back in April, and haven’t gotten back on the blogging horse. Sorry Bloggy Horse!  The new apartment is coming along. We have some furniture arriving soon, which reminds me that I have to call and ask when it’s arriving.

I always have a bewildered look on my face when I get asked how wedding planning is going. Not that I’m necessarily behind on anything, I  just don’t really know what I’m doing. So I’m just stumbling along like everyone else who has never planned a wedding before. The invites went out last week. So far, only a few people on Andy’s side have responded. Good thing we don’t have a bet going on who gets the most RVSP’s, as I don’t have one single card back from anyone I invited. I guess my friends and families aren’t as eager as Andy’s side?

Anyway, last weekend we met with the event coordinator at our wedding venue. We ran through a bunch of items for the wedding. At the end, she said she wished she had more brides as organized as myself. I consider this a huge compliment, since I have no clue what I am doing! All I did was download a checklist by month of what I’m supposed to be doing (according to one of those wedding websites). It’s actually quite handy.

I moved the checklist to my own Google Keep file.  I wanted the option to customize the list. I should have kept my master list intact, so I could share it with other brides who don’t know what they are doing either and are just stumbling through the wedding planning process. I also had my dress fitting this month. The top of my dress has to be taken in quite a bit, I bought a sample off the rack. It needs to be shortened so my crazy heels can peep through a little.  We did our cake tasting as well. I still dream about the chocolate cake,  I’m sure I’ll be sick of it when I have to take home leftovers.  Worry about that later, I suppose.

IF YOU PLAY DEFENDER, I COULD BE YOUR HYPERSPACE

hyperspace

I had a goal in mind for the weekend, it was to lock down a wedding dress. Not that I had been to a ton of bridal shops trying things on, but I had been deliberating options, and pinning dresses for months. So when I went to my second bridal appointment, I was hoping it would be one of the last appointments. As fun as dress shopping is, it can get stressful. Only because it’s a lot of pressure to find the right gown. The trouble is, I like a lot of dresses. So it was hard for me to say what I did/didn’t like about some of dresses over others. This made it a tad difficult to zero in what exactly I was looking for.

I had basic parameters. I liked a-line or ball gown, sparkle, and tulle. That lead to so many options! I was also trying to find something different, yet traditional at the same time. So I was scratching my head as to how I would be able to find anything like that?! I also made the mistake of going to look at dresses that were out of budget. I went to a trunk show for a designer I liked. They didn’t list prices on the gowns, so I guess I didn’t think about it too much.

I honestly was just going so I could poke around and see if they had this specific dress I was trying to track down from Fall 2012. Which they didn’t. Instead I tried on some dresses that were the overall silhouette I liked. I fell in love with this amazing glittery dress, and the finding out the price was like getting shot in the face. ROOKIE MOVE. How many times have I watched wedding dress reality shows?! It’s like the cardinal rule of dress shopping, don’t bother with things out of budget. But I did. So I was feeling discouraged with trying other places, because I wasn’t sure I’d find something I liked as much as the expensive glittery one.

I ended up at Vows over the weekend. It’s outlet bridal shop, that was on the defunct TLC show “I Found the Gown.” My consultant was great! She asked me what I did/didn’t like about certain gowns. Which was tricky, because I felt like I liked a lot of the dresses I tried, and it was difficult to pin point what exactly I didn’t like about them. But she did a great job, and pulled a dress none of us saw.

We missed it because we focused on looking at full skirt styles, prior to my appointment. So we forgot to check out the a-line section. Once I put it on, I knew it was dress for me. We all agreed, including my mom. My mom and I have drastically different tastes. The best part? It was very much under budget. I named my dress Hyperspace, as the design on it, reminds me of when a ship goes into hyperspace in Star Wars. So I thought that was appropriate. Now the title of this post, makes sense, huh?

THE WHOLE TIME!

wp-1482878066013.jpg

Ignore the vintage trading cards, I’m recycling this picture from my Christmas post.

So I brought my awesome new wedding shoes into work, some people wanted to see them in person. I wore them around, and one of the footwear engineers zeroed in a fit problem I was having. I would expect no less,  I work for a footwear company (after all). I got the shoes in a 9, as they don’t offer 1/2 sizes. Which always aggravates me, when shoes are only offered in whole sizes.

ANYWAY, he offered to cut some foam for me to make my shoes fit better. While we were at it, he measured my foot for me. Turns out I’m not an 8 1/2 like I always thought. My correct shoe size is an 8 narrow. Oops! So needless to say, that is why my awesome new shoes are far too large. The foam helps a lot though, so I will be utilizing it. Otherwise I’ll have one of my bridesmaids carry around a safety net to catch me when I fall.

In related news, I booked my first dress appointment. I only asked four people, as I didn’t feel like arriving with a giant posse. It’s a conundrum. I don’t want to leave anyone out, but I also don’t want to bring 50 people. I assume I’ll be checking out multiple dress shops. So I’ll probably ask friends/family that didn’t join me the first time, to go along to my next appointment. Wish me luck! I need to clean up my Pinterest board, so I have a better idea of what I want to try.
