THE MOST BOSTON ST. PATRICK’S DAY

wp-1490028709701.jpg

Since I’m not 21 anymore, I don’t end up doing much on St. Patrick’s Day. Typically, I’ll have an early-ish dinner with a couple drinks and go home. But not this year! My friend Patrick was in town from DC, and I haven’t seen him in a long time. So I felt it my duty to show him a good ol’ fashioned Boston St. Patrick’s Day. We ended up at my local watering hole, because it was our friends birthday. So Patrick got to meet my friends and celebrate with us. We managed to get the coveted corner spot. It’s ideal because people generally won’t try to cram themselves there to get drinks, and we have quick access to the bar.

The roving bagpipers came by again. I feel like for the past 3 or 4 years I’ve witnessed a group of bagpipers, go to different bars on St. Patrick’s Day and play a quick set before heading to another bar. This has happened to me numerous times. Maybe I’m being followed?! Anyway, they did a good job.

We also had Andy’s friend Doug visiting us. He was wearing kilts all weekend, so he had no problem jig dancing to their music. They actually came by a few times throughout the night. I stayed out a bit later than I intended, but I was having a good time. One of my neighbors even turned up, and we did a shot of whiskey.

The people-watching was prime. I mean, that’s the main reason to go out on St. Patrick’s Day in Boston. You have to watch all the drunken shenanigans go down. I think I did a decent job of showing Patrick and Doug a typical Boston St. Patrick’s Day. Although, there was no green puke in the streets when we rambled out the door.

Doug had tickets to the Dropkick Murphy’s show on Saturday. He had an extra ticket, so my friend Fiona was able to join us for the show. Doug had good tickets, we were in the floor section! I had a good time at the show. The two openers were fun, they got the crowd all pumped.

We didn’t have seats, so everyone in the floor section was standing around. This was good for dancing. There were also people moshing. But it wasn’t aggressive moshing, it did make me nervous to get bowled over. So I hid behind Andy, haha! It was good I did, because a big guy actually got knocked down and had to be brought away. He wasn’t maliciously pushed, he just lost his balance while he was moshing around. At the end of the show, the band had their whole family on stage for the encore.

Although I had a very “Boston” St. Patrick’s Day, I stopped short of going to the parade on Sunday. I’m not a parade person to begin with, and the gay veterans weren’t allowed to march (they ended up being allowed, but it was a big controversy at first) so the fact that was even an issue left a bad taste for me.  I spent my Sunday watching Beauty & the Beast. I actually really liked it. But I honestly haven’t seen the cartoon version since I was a kid, so I don’t know how close it was to that version. Doesn’t matter to me anyhow. I’m going to see it again at some point, with my friend Erin.

I’LL HAVE THE ARISTOCAT BURGER

wp-1478007618661.jpg

I went to the I Love The 90’s tour over the weekend in Worcester. I don’t think I’ve gone to the DCU center before, so it was fun. I went with a fun group of friends, and we danced our faces off from the stands. Jamie got us good seats, so we weren’t with the crowds on the floor, but were in second row in the stands.

The show had  Salt N Pepa, Vanilla Ice, All-4-One, Coolio, Tone Loc, and Young MC. I think we arrived a tad too late to catch Young MC. We had dinner beforehand at The Citizen. I had jeweled cat ears, painted whiskers, and a cat face shirt on for the show. I ordered the aristocrat burger, but I purposely kept calling it the aristocat burger. HAR! I probably made far too many cat jokes that evening, but my friends still love me. So they are good people…even after I said I had to use the litter box.

I have to say, I was very impressed with Lizz’s light up vest. I totally want one now, but have no idea when I would wear it…except for a 90s’ concert (of course!). Well, the tour is coming back around next year. So maybe a light up vest is in my future? All the performers did a great job. I was a little bummed Coolio didn’t perform the theme to Kenan & Kel, but I’ll forgive him because he shook my hand!

Vanilla Ice was the headliner, and he really wanted to party. He invited some audience members on stage to dance with him. Even after the concert was over, the DJ was spinning 90’s hits, and good ol’ V.Ice was still dancing and singing with people on stage. HOW AWESOME?!

I NEED TO BUY MY YOUNGER SELF A DOORS GREATEST HITS ALBUM…

31XN5EW3YAL.jpg

I’ve had a song stuck in my head and I can’t remember any of the lyrics to it at all. All I seem to recall is the chorus where the alt-rock band sings, “ooh ooh ah ohh ohh ohh.” I recall listening to this song on my iPod on college. I seem to think either the song name or lyrics had something to do with a weatherman or an anchorman. But Google search is no help. I even found a site where you can hum a song, but the results were null. I also tried a lyrics site using the search terms anchorman and weatherman. No hits in the forecast either.

Confession time, I don’t usually clean the songs out of my iTunes library. So the songs there, I’ve accrued since I got my very first iPod. It was a pink iPod mini, and I loved it so! Still the only Apple product I don’t despise. ANYWAY, I tried to search my iTunes library, and I got nothing. It’s possible the iPod it was on died, or the song was lost between several computer changes/restores since my college days.

But all hope was not yet lost. I keep all my CD’s in a giant binder, this includes about 20 mix CD’s I’ve created over my high school and college days. Consider it my early 2000’s homage to the mix tape. Not only this, I also kept the index card with the songs listed on them! Wow, my younger self was so organized, and a music-hoarder. My mix CD search didn’t yield any results.

All I learned, was I probably should have bought myself a Doors greatest hits album. Most of my mix CD’s seem to have at least one Doors song. I had no idea I liked The Doors that much. I forgot to try my Amazon music library, and the few odd folders of songs on the drive of my computer that I may have forgotten to link to my iTunes library. All hope isn’t totally lost yet, but trying to find a song without lyrics is rather impossible. Especially when you’re sure the song wasn’t really a big radio hit, and you can’t remember the band name at all.

HELLO, BLOG!

A lot has happened the past couple of weeks, and I forgot to blog. Now I don’t know where to begin? I guess we can start with some important news. I set my wedding date and venue. After scouting a bunch of places online for their packages, meal options, and price point, we went with the second place we actually visited. It’s a local hotel that offers some really good deals, that are a good value (as far as weddings go). I’m very happy to have the venue, food, date, DJ, flowers, and cake figured out. It’s all included with the package. That takes most of the major things off the list. I probably won’t do much else in the area of wedding planning for the rest of this year.

Anyway, is it sad that I’m still tired from the weekend? On Thursday we went out for dinner and drinks. The pretzels in the picture were sooo good. I just love soft pretzels. I also recall catching a lot of Pokemon in the restaurant parking lot, haha.

Did I mention it’s been INSANELY hot in Boston for a couple of weeks now? Well Friday was certainly no exception. I met up with some friends at the bar. I decided to walk, thinking it would be cooler out. It wasn’t, dear diary. It was not cooler AT ALL. It was so stinking humid. I thought once I got to the bar, it  would be nice and cool. NOPE.

Turns out, they have the suckiest air conditioning ever. Or maybe it wasn’t working? I honestly don’t remember. I just remember it being really fucking hot, to the point where I went outside every time one of my friends wanted a cigarette just to cool down. I did get a Coronarita, that helped. But the bar refused to open the windows, despite it being cooler outdoors. It was supposed to rain, but it never happened so that’s why they didn’t want to open the windows at first. After the bar, we went to a friends house to enjoy her porch. But I didn’t get to stay long. I had to go to a party down the street, which we could hear from the porch. The party was fun, but it was just too darn hot at their new place. There was typical stuff like beer pong and flip cup.

So Saturday I had (yet another) party to attend. It was for a friends birthday, he has it every year in his back yard. At least on Saturday it wasn’t really humid. So hanging outside was fine. I was even able to find some Harpoon Camp Wannamango at the liquor store. I took their last 12 pack, yippie!

OMG, this is like the blog post that never ends. Sorry, I’m almost done. On Sunday, Andy and I went to a show. We pretty much go every year, the line up was pretty good for Summerland 2016. We saw Sponge, Lit, Sugar Ray, and Everclear. This time only Sponge came out to sign autographs and take pictures. I’ve met Sponge a few times already, they are very nice to their fans. I might edit this post later and drum up some of the pictures I took with Vinnie (the lead singer) from Sponge. In previous years, I met Eve 6, Filter, and Alien Ant Farm as well. The show was very good. Hell, even Mark McGrath made fun of himself for still having highlights. Gotta love the 90s’, amirite? Oh yes, there were lots of people wearing hemp necklaces, bucket hats, and sporting mushroom cuts. It was quite the sight!

RUNAWAY TRAIN

Saturday was a busy day. For one, we saw Soul Asylum that night. We started off with dinner and drinks at Rock Bottom.  I haven’t been there in a long time,  but I was a bit disappointed.  First, their beer list is tiny! I don’t remember it being so small before. Plus it took quite sometime for a server to acknowledge our table. The food was pretty good though, at least.

We ended up getting out of dinner later than expected, due to the slow service. So we missed a couple songs from the set. We were also surprised to find Soul Asylum wasn’t the headliner. This sorta blew my mind! The English Beat were the headliners instead. Too be honest we had never heard of them.  So riddle me that.

The show itself was good though. The venue (Royale) sort of reminded me of Lupo’s in Providence, only a bit smaller. They are pretty strict with the shows starting and ending on time, as the venue also doubles as a night club. The club part is definitely not my scene,so I wouldn’t be going back for that, haha

MOM’S SPAGHETTI

20160619_180916

Super random, but I’ve been on an Eminem kick this week. Thankfully Amazon Prime will indulge me, and I downloaded some albums for the FREE! So now I resemble Michael Bolton in Office Space, jammin to my tunes.

I’m sure it’s quite the sight. Anyway, I’m currently getting a pedicure. I’m trying out MiniLuxe, it’s a salon chain. The pedicures are a bit pricey, but I’m hoping it’s worth it. I hate doing my own pedicure, it usually turns out awful. I can handle painting my finger nails just fine. It’s basically the only thing my left hand is useful for, painting my right hand. Haha!

Anyway, another busy weekend coming up. I’m meeting up with Andy at his work for a party. We have tickets to a show, and we’re going to the beach. I can’t wait, should be good weather.

SUPER FUN SATURDAY!

2015-12-03 11.31.54

Last Saturday, Andy and I went to a show at the Sinclair in Harvard Square. Before heading there, we decided to grab dinner and drinks at The Asgard. We wanted to head back to River Gods, but it’s tiny and we didn’t want to wait for a table. Thankfully there wasn’t a lot of action at the Asgard, likely due to the holiday weekend. So we were seated straight away. I ordered the fried chicken, and it was delicious!

2015-12-03 11.33.17

After dinner, we headed to the show. We saw the band Tree, who are a local group that was big in the 90’s and early 00’s. I had never seen them before, despite owning a couple of their albums. This was Andy’s millionth time seeing them. HAHA. Anyway, there was some mosh pit drama, but I stayed FAR AWAY from that shit. My petite frame wasn’t built for moshing. Oh well, I think I’ll survive without that experience.
