COMPLIMENTARY HOT WAX?

20171114_100005.jpg

I met Lou Ferrigno, Joonas Suotamo, and Joey Fatone at their booths, and chatted with them for a bit.

I just got back from an intense Comic Con weekend in Rhode Island with Erin. A couple other friends were there as well like Fiona & Emily.  This Con was held in two adjacent buildings, unlike Boston Comic Con which was all within the convention center. Honestly, the arena building was a NIGHTMARE. But it was the area you needed to be in if you booked a photo op with a celeb guest, also some of the celeb guest booths were located there for autographs. The area was poorly laid out, you were forced to go into one direction only, and this was at the main entrance. There was also only ONE set of stairs for up and down along the concourse. It caused a crazy bottleneck!

Unfortunately, that area remained extremely crazy all weekend. I also don’t understand why they wouldn’t allow people to use the tickets they printed at home, to use for their photo ops. I was able to do this at Boston Comic Con. Instead, we were forced to stand in this crazy long line to redeem our photo op tickets on Friday. Thankfully we did it all at once, and managed to not miss our session with Elijah Wood.

Clearly I was not excited AT ALL to meet Christopher Lloyd

Saturday was also extremely busy. But we tried to limit the amount of time we needed to spend in the Circle of Hell area (that’s what we nicknamed the arena part). Thankfully Fiona let us use her hotel passes to get into the Con from the inside entrance, so we didn’t have to stand in the cold all weekend. I think if I go next year, I’ll stay at the hotel and limit the photo ops to Sunday only.

Other than the nightmare photo op area, the convention center was great! I was able to meet some celeb guests at their booths and chat with them. On Saturday, I dressed as a Discoball Deathstar. I had to remake my Deathstar costume from a few years ago. I guess you consider it Deathstar II, except this one looks finished. Haha, there is some nerd humor for you Star Wars fans.

Joey Fatone, Theo Rossi, Samantha Newark (voice of original Jem & the Holograms), and Brian O’Halloran all loved my costume! *swoon* We totally quoted Camp Nowhere to Christopher Lloyd when we met him, we got a laugh out of him. We were probably the only people that would quote Camp Nowhere to him out of that man’s extensive film history. I always replay the carwash scene of that movie, it’s my favorite.

Deathstar Discoball, the dish part lights up! I didn’t have time to make the rest of the skirt light up.

READY RED ONE!

20171031_103058-1.jpg

I was an X-wing for Halloween

Happy Halloween, everyone! It’s my favorite holiday. Since I’ve moved back to where I don’t have to deal with annoying college kids and have wonderful things like ample parking, this means we’ll actually have trick or treaters. Not sure how to deal with it though, as my dog loses his mind every time the doorbell rings. We plan to go out for dinner and drinks tonight, so we could just hold him back when the doorbell rings until we head out for the night. But I don’t know if I want to deal with it. It’s easier just to eat the bags of candy ourselves, haha.

Anyway, I went to another Halloween party over the weekend. Fiona always does an A+ job with the decorations, this year was no exception. Andy made me into an X-Wing from Star Wars. I went with Red One so I could dress as R2D2, of course! The party was zombie-themed and my friend Emily did an awesome job with gory makeup. I’m sure her face is probably still stained red though. I had a hard time navigating the asteroid belt (party goers) in my giant costume. So I had to stay put for a couple hours until I took the X-Wing part off. I felt like Jabba the Hutt sitting around taking up 2 chairs in my giant costume. Maybe I could be Jabba next year? haha!

GFY AMAZON SELLERS OF SAILOR PLUTO PROPS!

I’m finally getting around to posting about a Halloween party I went to on Saturday night. It was with a bunch of friends. I dressed as Sailor Pluto. I picked her because she has this cool staff, despite not knowing much about her character. I haven’t watched the old Sailor Moon anime series since I was a kid, but I am not sure if Sailor Pluto is really in many episodes of the newer Sailor Moon Crystal series. I’ve only watched a few episodes of it so far.

Anyway, the costume itself was a little pricey. It was also extremely short, barely covers “me arse” so I rocked a petticoat with it. I still loved the costume though, it was a hit, especially at the bar after. I was dared to order a drink with my staff. It took a several attempts, but I completed the task and got a free beer out of some 23 year-old kid hanging around us.  I guess that is what happens when you pick a lesser-known character from the series. But I wasn’t anticipating the staff she uses only be sold for over $100 on Amazon. To that I say, GO FUCK YOURSELF GREEDY SELLERS! Know what I did instead? Purchased a clearance section Queen of Hearts staff, some spray paint, and foam heart online. Andy painted it and remodeled the top of the staff for me. PLUS it lights up, which the ones on Amazon don’t do. Turns out, Sailor Pluto is a pretty cool sailor scout. She is the guardian of space and time, and also darkness. BADASS! Apparently she can also stop time, which is pretty amazing. I didn’t have a chance to test out this superpower.

The party was fun. We had not one, but TWO cereal killers! We also had Mrs. Doubtfire, Voodoo Doll, Little Red Riding Hood,  some Ricks (Rick & Morty),  and my sailor scout friends (including a clever Sailor Goth!), and other cool costumes. We did some dancing, and watched movies, all while being stalked by the kitty that wouldn’t let us pet her. Naughty Babette! Around midnight, we walked in a weirdo-parade to the bar to show off our costumes. I’m sure we were quite the vision.

SUMMONED BY THE GOBLIN KING

20170823_084015

My dress barely fit in the car!

Over the weekend I went to another Goblin Ball, this one was the light fairy kingdom vs dark fairy. It is based of the movie, The Labyrinth. It was fun! Though, not sure if I’d go to another. I feel like two is probably enough, especially when you have to find a ball gown. But who knows, I may change my mind. Anyway, the event was held in the same armory museum, which is really a great setting for it. It pretty much went the same as last time, except they much improved the professional photo system. So we didn’t have to stand in line for days. We got ready at Erin’s place, then headed to our friend Emily’s house to meet up with everyone.

20170823_084205

The costumes were really cool! I’m not really sure what I was dressed as. We’ll go with Cotton Candy Queen. As my giant-ass dress looked like cotton candy. It actually wasn’t that expensive. It was cheaper than renting a dress. I may cut some layers off and use it for 80s prom. I’ll “Pretty in Pink” it, except this dress hopefully won’t end up looking hideous.

20170823_084503

My only complaint was my shoes and some of the music selections. They played too much slow waltzing music. I came to jam out, not to be bored by waltz music! I should have worn flip flops. My feet were still pretty jacked up from Comic Con. So the shoes I wore were hurting me by nights end.  I stayed over at Erin’s that night. We got up the next day for pancakes, and did some shopping.

PSA, for those people getting married that want to use the Bridal Buddy, I’d say don’t waste your money. I brought mine to test out for my wedding, and it wouldn’t even fit my ball gown. So I couldn’t use it. I actually had no issue using the bathroom in my giant dress. It was just a slow process, as I had to gather up all the damn layers of my dress. But it made me confident that I can successfully pee on my own at my wedding…WHICH IS IN 30 DAYS. Yikes. I mean, I’m excited, but also nervous.

GOBLIN KINGS BALL!

I had a satisfactory weekend. On Saturday, I stayed over my friends place so we could go to the Goblin Ball. It was a pretty cool event, we went with a bunch of friends. It was held in an armory museum that looks like a castle inside. Very appropriate. I got this really  cool galaxy dress for the occasion. It sheds glitter everywhere though, and I don’t know when I’d wear it again. But it was worth it. I ordered a headpiece online, and I was nervous I wouldn’t get it on time. The snow last week didn’t help. But it got delivered at noon on Saturday. I plan to use the headpiece again, so it was a worthwhile investment.

Everyone did a fab job with their costumes. One of our friends won a costume contest. I’m sad we missed it, but it happened while we were in line to pick up our pictures. I think next time I’ll skip the pictures, we wasted valuable dance time!

It was a really fun event. I’d go again next year, if it’s an annual thing. I just hope they move it to the spring next time. Getting dressed up in gown with a long train is not ideal in the winter. I’m already thinking of ideas for next time, haha.

It snowed again yesterday into today. I ended up having to shovel this afternoon. I managed to shave 30 minutes off my Olympic speed shoveling record. But man, did I work up more of a sweat! At least I’m feeling better, I was sick earlier today. No fun!

WARP SPEED, TO HALLOWEEN!

Big reveal: my costume is the Millennium Falcon!

Hello blog! Its been a few weeks since I last blogged. I got back from Arizona about 10 days ago, but I haven’t gotten around to writing about my trip yet. I’ll get around to that real soon.

Anyway, my costume was finished just in time for a Halloween party this weekend. I told Andy I wanted to be the Millennium Falcon. I just wanted help with lighting, anything involving power tools, and measurements. Instead, he took the project and ran with it. He did a seriously impressive job, I love my costume! It was worth all the many trips to Home Depot and craft store to complete it. Not to mention all the money we spent on materials, yikes! Probably cheaper to build an actual Millennium Falcon, haha.

The costume is made with foam, duct tape, and tons of paint. Andy rigged it to light up, so I flip a switch to hit warp speed. Which (admittedly) I did a lot, to travel between rooms.

The party I went to was so much fun. My friend Fiona did an awesome job transforming her apartment into Stranger Things (Netflix series). I think her decorations were amazing. My costume actually ties in with Stranger Things. There was a scene where Mike tried to get 11 to fly his falcon toy, and she declined. Later on, she makes it fly with her powers.

There was a costume contest at the party. I somehow managed to snag Most Original and Best Costume. I was very honored to get not only one prize, but two! Andy was very thrilled his hard work paid off. There were lots of great costumes to compete with. There were even 2 very convincing Mrs. Byers. There were some other non Stranger Things related costumes were great as well.

Once we settled down, we relaxed by the fire. But no night would be complete without a trip to The Drop to parade our costumes. Our Uber driver joined us at the bar, I guess we know how to party.

I was thankful most people that approached me about my costume, knew what it was! Unlike last year, when a lot of people told me they loved my costume, then proceeded to ask me what it is. 😂 There were a lot of Star Wars nerds at the bar, all of them appreciated the costume. I think Andy was happy to get all the positive feedback on his costume baby, haha. Only two people had to ask me what my costume was, so that is impressive. I also made a new Facebook friend with a girl that I was talking with about Star Wars and Dr. Who. Nerdy friends are the best kind of people! 🤓

I need to start thinking about next year. But until then, I was tasked with carving a pumpkin for a department competition this week. I was nominated because I won the pumpkin carving contest at work a couple times. I have a lot of pressure now. Oh man!

DEAD SONGS, COSTUMES, AND VACATION

Guys, I’ve officially had to resign the idea of finding the song from my last blog post. I could record myself humming the tune and post it to a music forum I found, but I think it best to give up my search. I checked my computer again last night and it yielded no results. Maybe someday I will find it, if I happen to be listening to an early to mid 00’s alt-rock station, but I think I have better odds of winning the jackpot.

No matter, I have to switch into Halloween mode anyway. This year I’m starting a bit earlier than normal. It’s because my friends have decided to start sending out invites to parties NOW. Plus, I’m going on vacation soon and will be gone 8 days. This will inhibit my time to work on the rather ambitious costume idea I have in mind. I almost shot myself in the foot last year. I had a costume picked out, then I was hit with sudden inspiration a day before my friends party. So I made a trip to the craft store, and express shipped a giant beach ball to myself, and had a Tim Gunn “make it work” moment.

Anyway, while I could pull off making this costume all by myself, I’m enlisting the help of Andy. Despite the fact he HATES dressing up for Halloween, he loves to build things. So he is more than happy to assist with engineering my Halloween costume. I’m not revealing what my costume is, but it’s going to make the one I made last year look like child’s play.

FB_IMG_1447023719433

Last years Deathstar costume, it actually only took me a half day to make.

I’m glad he is helping me, otherwise this costume would take me FOREVER to construct on my own. Plus, I shouldn’t be trusted with power tools and electricity. So he will be handling the heavy duty cutting, and electrical work. The rest is basically up to painting, assembly, and praying it works! The only part I’m nervous about is the fitting, I’m worried it will not fit the way I want. But I think as long as we don’t make it too small, it can be adjusted. He is confident my idea can be pulled off. I’ve already selected materials and design. Andy is drafting construction and measurement ideas (I can’t be trusted with math either, haha). Wish me luck! If we pull this off, I’m definitely entering it in some kind of costume contest.I have a backup plan, if this idea falls through. But I am quite confident in Andy’s construction abilities.

I won’t be blogging the rest of the week. I have a girls trip planned with my friend. I’ll cheers you from the beach, with my drank in hand.
