BLING BLING

wp-1489676789346.jpg

My friend and I got to do something really exciting this week! We got to meet the queen of bling herself, Sondra! She is the genius behind all the gypsy gowns on a hit TLC reality show. My BFF and I watch all the time and dish about it. She is actually a local person and her studio is about 15 minutes from my apartment. So we are commissioning her to make a really fun (and of course BLINGY!) belt for my wedding dress. I can’t wait to see it!

My friend and I were so happy to meet her. Her studio is amazing, not one surface left un-sparkled. Heck, even the address plate on her building is straight blingin’. She is also really nice. She spent some time in her busy day to talk with us and take a picture in front of her pink creation. I hope to see this dress on a gypsy bride soon!

I can’t wait to go back and see what my belt looks like, I’m hoping I can use it for something after my wedding too as I’m sure I’ll want to wear it again. Anyway, my veil should be arriving soon, and I finished ordering wedding invites, info cards, and RSVP cards for the big day. I don’t plan to start sending anything out until the summer. But I like to be prepared. I’m trying to balance time between moving and wedding things. But I think I need to shift gears and concentrate on moving (whenever that will be!).

WARP SPEED, TO HALLOWEEN!

Big reveal: my costume is the Millennium Falcon!

Hello blog! Its been a few weeks since I last blogged. I got back from Arizona about 10 days ago, but I haven’t gotten around to writing about my trip yet. I’ll get around to that real soon.

Anyway, my costume was finished just in time for a Halloween party this weekend. I told Andy I wanted to be the Millennium Falcon. I just wanted help with lighting, anything involving power tools, and measurements. Instead, he took the project and ran with it. He did a seriously impressive job, I love my costume! It was worth all the many trips to Home Depot and craft store to complete it. Not to mention all the money we spent on materials, yikes! Probably cheaper to build an actual Millennium Falcon, haha.

The costume is made with foam, duct tape, and tons of paint. Andy rigged it to light up, so I flip a switch to hit warp speed. Which (admittedly) I did a lot, to travel between rooms.

The party I went to was so much fun. My friend Fiona did an awesome job transforming her apartment into Stranger Things (Netflix series). I think her decorations were amazing. My costume actually ties in with Stranger Things. There was a scene where Mike tried to get 11 to fly his falcon toy, and she declined. Later on, she makes it fly with her powers.

There was a costume contest at the party. I somehow managed to snag Most Original and Best Costume. I was very honored to get not only one prize, but two! Andy was very thrilled his hard work paid off. There were lots of great costumes to compete with. There were even 2 very convincing Mrs. Byers. There were some other non Stranger Things related costumes were great as well.

Once we settled down, we relaxed by the fire. But no night would be complete without a trip to The Drop to parade our costumes. Our Uber driver joined us at the bar, I guess we know how to party.

I was thankful most people that approached me about my costume, knew what it was! Unlike last year, when a lot of people told me they loved my costume, then proceeded to ask me what it is. 😂 There were a lot of Star Wars nerds at the bar, all of them appreciated the costume. I think Andy was happy to get all the positive feedback on his costume baby, haha. Only two people had to ask me what my costume was, so that is impressive. I also made a new Facebook friend with a girl that I was talking with about Star Wars and Dr. Who. Nerdy friends are the best kind of people! 🤓

I need to start thinking about next year. But until then, I was tasked with carving a pumpkin for a department competition this week. I was nominated because I won the pumpkin carving contest at work a couple times. I have a lot of pressure now. Oh man!

DEAD SONGS, COSTUMES, AND VACATION

Guys, I’ve officially had to resign the idea of finding the song from my last blog post. I could record myself humming the tune and post it to a music forum I found, but I think it best to give up my search. I checked my computer again last night and it yielded no results. Maybe someday I will find it, if I happen to be listening to an early to mid 00’s alt-rock station, but I think I have better odds of winning the jackpot.

No matter, I have to switch into Halloween mode anyway. This year I’m starting a bit earlier than normal. It’s because my friends have decided to start sending out invites to parties NOW. Plus, I’m going on vacation soon and will be gone 8 days. This will inhibit my time to work on the rather ambitious costume idea I have in mind. I almost shot myself in the foot last year. I had a costume picked out, then I was hit with sudden inspiration a day before my friends party. So I made a trip to the craft store, and express shipped a giant beach ball to myself, and had a Tim Gunn “make it work” moment.

Anyway, while I could pull off making this costume all by myself, I’m enlisting the help of Andy. Despite the fact he HATES dressing up for Halloween, he loves to build things. So he is more than happy to assist with engineering my Halloween costume. I’m not revealing what my costume is, but it’s going to make the one I made last year look like child’s play.

Last years Deathstar costume, it actually only took me a half day to make.

I’m glad he is helping me, otherwise this costume would take me FOREVER to construct on my own. Plus, I shouldn’t be trusted with power tools and electricity. So he will be handling the heavy duty cutting, and electrical work. The rest is basically up to painting, assembly, and praying it works! The only part I’m nervous about is the fitting, I’m worried it will not fit the way I want. But I think as long as we don’t make it too small, it can be adjusted. He is confident my idea can be pulled off. I’ve already selected materials and design. Andy is drafting construction and measurement ideas (I can’t be trusted with math either, haha). Wish me luck! If we pull this off, I’m definitely entering it in some kind of costume contest.I have a backup plan, if this idea falls through. But I am quite confident in Andy’s construction abilities.

I won’t be blogging the rest of the week. I have a girls trip planned with my friend. I’ll cheers you from the beach, with my drank in hand.

I ALREADY KNOW WHAT I’M BEING NEXT YEAR

image

I went to two Halloween parties this weekend. I had a lot of fun! The one on Friday was a big party at a bar that moved locations. We didn’t stay the whole night, as the bartenders were awful and the place was crazy packed.  Plus I was sick of people touching my costume. I value my personal space, yo! One girl actually reached under my Death Star skirt (again!!!). She was basically the same girl as last week that “just loved” my costume, without knowing what it is. She also suggested I enter it into some sort of vague contest.  I’m just really glad I didn’t ask if she was wearing a bird costume, since she was wearing a feather vest. Towards the end of our 20 minute convo, she mentioned she doesn’t wear costumes.  Anyway,  the only bartender I liked, was the one that dressed like Dexter. Highlight of the evening was when two girls walked in, with what looked like light-up penises on their heads. I think they were attempting to be unicorns, but they looked more like unitards. After that,  we went to our favorite watering hole and played pool.

Yesterday,  I went to my friend Fiona’s party. She did a fantastic job decorating! There was loads of fake spider webs, food, and skulls. We all had a great time!

There was also a costume contest!  Andy and I took home the best “couples costume” award. Although,  I will say it was an accident that we ended up as a couples costume.  I already have a list saved of costume ideas for next year,  none are a couples costume.  I’ll spare Andy that annoyance again.  My favorite costume idea so far,  involves loads of face paint.  But I already own the perfect shoes for it too! By the way,  Andy added lights to my costume,  aren’t they awesome?!

SO MUCH ROOM FOR CRAFTIVITIES!

FotorCreated

Today is the pumpkin carving contest at work. Please enjoy this photo of my pumpkin that I spent the entire weekend crafting. By the time Monday rolled around, I was SO SICK of looking at him! Overall, I think it came out really well. But I bought the wrong kind of material for the tail and legs. I meant to buy Model Magic by Crayola, but ended up with air-dry clay. I didn’t like the results with this medium, as it doesn’t dry light and foamy like Model Magic. So I had to keep re-gluing the legs and tail back on.

Thankfully I brought some super glue with me to work, as part of his tail came off in transit. The glue seems to be holding him together, so far. I just need this guy to survive for a few more hours, then he can fall apart all he wants.  While I was at it, I also entered the costume contest. I mean, why not? Wish me luck, and hope my pumpkin cat hasn’t turned into a zombie.
