Yesterday I went to Coolidge Corner Theater to see Drop Dead Gorgeous with my friends Ginny and Fiona. I’m glad Ginny found out that the theater was playing it on their throwback/rewind night. I love this freaking movie, it’s hilarious. It’s a mockumentary-style movie about beauty pageant contestants in a tiny Minnesota town.
Before the show, the theater held a small talent show using members of the audience for prizes. The girl that could bleet like a goat, won. It was awesome! After the show, we had tickets to the after party at a local sushi/hibachi restaurant. They only had a limited amount of free sushi and beer. The beer guys took forever to arrive. When he turned up, I helped myself to some beers before the bartenders had a chance to take it out. Gotta be aggressive!
Anyway, I was feeling all calm and shit about wedding-planning until today. I am starting to get anxiety. We’re about 8 days away now, and I knew the anxiety would surface soon. I’m not really nervous about the wedding itself, or the life-long commitment of marriage. Nah, not really my style to freak out about big things, I like to sweat the small stuff. For example, I’m not a fan of being the center of attention. So the whole “walking down the aisle” moment, along with the first dance, and father/daughter dance are freaking me the fuck out. I dunno why. It’s such a short part of the day, but I like to dwell on it. The day will come and go quickly, so I’m hoping once the moments arrive, I’ll be okay.

My dress barely fit in the car!
Over the weekend I went to another Goblin Ball, this one was the light fairy kingdom vs dark fairy. It is based of the movie, The Labyrinth. It was fun! Though, not sure if I’d go to another. I feel like two is probably enough, especially when you have to find a ball gown. But who knows, I may change my mind. Anyway, the event was held in the same armory museum, which is really a great setting for it. It pretty much went the same as last time, except they much improved the professional photo system. So we didn’t have to stand in line for days. We got ready at Erin’s place, then headed to our friend Emily’s house to meet up with everyone.
The costumes were really cool! I’m not really sure what I was dressed as. We’ll go with Cotton Candy Queen. As my giant-ass dress looked like cotton candy. It actually wasn’t that expensive. It was cheaper than renting a dress. I may cut some layers off and use it for 80s prom. I’ll “Pretty in Pink” it, except this dress hopefully won’t end up looking hideous.
My only complaint was my shoes and some of the music selections. They played too much slow waltzing music. I came to jam out, not to be bored by waltz music! I should have worn flip flops. My feet were still pretty jacked up from Comic Con. So the shoes I wore were hurting me by nights end. I stayed over at Erin’s that night. We got up the next day for pancakes, and did some shopping.
PSA, for those people getting married that want to use the Bridal Buddy, I’d say don’t waste your money. I brought mine to test out for my wedding, and it wouldn’t even fit my ball gown. So I couldn’t use it. I actually had no issue using the bathroom in my giant dress. It was just a slow process, as I had to gather up all the damn layers of my dress. But it made me confident that I can successfully pee on my own at my wedding…WHICH IS IN 30 DAYS. Yikes. I mean, I’m excited, but also nervous.

We encountered a real bear on Saturday morning, as he ran into the woods!
This post is about my awesome bachelorette party weekend. There were tons of penis decorations, which I was fine with. I just didn’t want a REAL stripper, and thankfully there wasn’t one! The house we rented in the White Mountains of New Hampshire was awesome! It has 5 bedrooms and fire pit area outside. We did a lot of fun things. One of my favorites was decorating our sashes for a night in the town.
We spent the first day by the pool and did some light shopping. After I got back, my friends decorated the house and it looked awesome! We stayed by the fire that night, and we named our inflatable man Bernie. Thus began weekend at Bernie’s!
On Saturday, we were supposed to go do the ropes course and zip-lining. But a lot of us were feeling a bit under the weather, so we decorated our sashes and decided to the sky gondola ride at the ski resort. The ride involved getting into these pods that brought us up the mountain. Once we got to the top, there were a bunch of things to check out. Apparently there was a wedding happening at the ampitheater area, which looked seriously awesome! The only draw back to getting married up there, is your guests would need to take a 15 minute gondola ride up each way. My relatives would freak out. Anyway, the only thing I didn’t like was the caves. They looked more like rock formations, not caves. Also, too many freaking stairs. No thanks!
That night, we went out to dinner and annoyed the guests at a local Mexican restaurant. We got all decked out in our bachelorette swag and hit the mountain town. We brought Bernie along to the restaurant. He was a hoot! A kid at a neighboring table was fascinated with Bern-Man, they were the same height. When we told his parents his name is Bernie, they definitely picked up on the movie reference. SCORE!
After scaring away all the patrons at the restaurant, we went to a brewery/inn/bar. It was a happening place with an 80s cover band and good brews. I made some friends, and I may need a restraining order from this woman that was fine at first, but then wouldn’t leave me alone. But that’s a tale for another time. It was such a great weekend, and I love my friends for making this the best weekend ever. Now I’m aboard the struggle bus from being tired.

Sorry, I’ve been lacking in the posts this week, it’s been a busy one! But more on that later. Anyway, on Friday I attempted a Goth Night at a local music venue. I mentioned in another post about how I don’t know how to goth. haha! The event is held about once a month. It was really fun. I didn’t really know what to wear (duh), so I ordered some things online. I only ended up using the feather shawl, the rest of my getup consisted of things I already owned. I actually have a matching feather skirt, so it went nicely with the shawl.
Anyway, I turned up a little later than I had wanted. Mostly because I was panicking at what to wear. My friend and I stopped for a drink beforehand as well. That and I was having technical difficulties with my temporary tattoos staying intact. I probably shouldn’t have put makeup on before adding the tattoos, as they didn’t stick very well over foundation. Oh well, lesson learned for next time.
It was a really fun night. There was good tunes, and people had some really fun outfits. My “IDK how to goth, so here I am as a bird” outfit was a hit. My friends and I had a lot of fun. We stayed until close, and the snow didn’t let up. Thankfully we all got home safely in our Uber.

Saturday was an interesting night. Andy and I wanted to grab some burgers and booze for dinner. We had plans to see a friends cover band play in the area. We didn’t intend to stay for the whole set. The cover band was playing in the Foundation Room of the House of Blues. Meanwhile, down in the actual concert venue, Rick Astley was having a concert. I guess it was the last night of his tour for a while. We watched him on the TV’s upstairs, and they piped in the concert audio for us.
I give Rick a lot of credit. He played a 45 minute encore! Once his show was done, the cover band started to play. They were good, loads of Step Brothers references thrown in, they won me over just on that alone. About an hour into their set, none other than Rick Astley himself shows up. He asked to play with the band (Mr. Doubtfire) for a bit. This was a huge surprise, and we weren’t being Rick Rolled. I figured he would play a few songs, and be on his way. His tour manager told us they had to leave back to England early in the morning, so he was trying to keep Rick on a tight schedule.
It was quite the spectacle to see Rick Astley basically have a private concert for us. There was probably only about 40 or 50 people at the Foundation Room. I have to give him serious props, he played various cover songs with Mr. Doubtfire for a good hour and a half before calling it quits. So much for trying to leave early! We stayed until almost closing time. Which means there was a huge line for hot dogs when we left, so we couldn’t get any food from Sausage Guy. Bummer! But hey, we got a free private concert from Rick Astley, so I can’t complain.

I had a satisfactory weekend. On Saturday, I stayed over my friends place so we could go to the Goblin Ball. It was a pretty cool event, we went with a bunch of friends. It was held in an armory museum that looks like a castle inside. Very appropriate. I got this really cool galaxy dress for the occasion. It sheds glitter everywhere though, and I don’t know when I’d wear it again. But it was worth it. I ordered a headpiece online, and I was nervous I wouldn’t get it on time. The snow last week didn’t help. But it got delivered at noon on Saturday. I plan to use the headpiece again, so it was a worthwhile investment.
Everyone did a fab job with their costumes. One of our friends won a costume contest. I’m sad we missed it, but it happened while we were in line to pick up our pictures. I think next time I’ll skip the pictures, we wasted valuable dance time!
It was a really fun event. I’d go again next year, if it’s an annual thing. I just hope they move it to the spring next time. Getting dressed up in gown with a long train is not ideal in the winter. I’m already thinking of ideas for next time, haha.
It snowed again yesterday into today. I ended up having to shovel this afternoon. I managed to shave 30 minutes off my Olympic speed shoveling record. But man, did I work up more of a sweat! At least I’m feeling better, I was sick earlier today. No fun!

I just realized I forgot to post my fabulous outfit from the weekend. I got it a while back, and totally forgot about it. I actually got it in the wrong size. The reviews said the skirt runs small, so I should have gone up a size. No matter, it’s nothing that an opaque pair of tights or leggings can’t solve. So I finally wore my fabulous feather skirt to my friends birthday party. It was a fun time. My gift of a glowing cat lamp, and a book titled “How to Talk to Your Cat About Gun Safety” were big hits. But Andy stole my gift idea, and shipped a copy of the book to his friend too. His friend got a kick out of it.
We all enjoyed a yummy dinner at Golden Temple. Then we made our way to the Mos Eisley cantina (that’s what I call it anyway). It’s the bar area with a dance floor. The DJ was a friend of one of the party-goers so he played all our requests, which was good. The kitty lamp also made an appearance on the dance floor. The moral of this blog post is to not wear a feather skirt to a bar. People will pat your bottom! 😉
