MDW 2018

It’s been a very busy month, so Andy and I decided to stay local for Memorial Day. Plus, there was really only one good weather day. We already have some good stuff planned for 4th of July, and some beach trips. So why waste time going someplace when we would only get one day of sun? We decided to take a 9 mile bike ride and it was actually fun. I wasn’t sure if I would survive. I just started bike riding again recently, after a 20 year hiatus. Wow, I sound so old right now. BRB, going to cry in a corner! But I survived and it was fun. Thankfully it was a lot cooler along the bike path and the sun wasn’t beating down on us.

I also hung out with my friend Erin over the weekend. We binged the rest of the episodes of Cobra Kai. I can’t wait for season 2! If you’re a Karate Kid fan, I recommend checking it out. Oh yeah, I also figured out where Swansea is over the weekend when I decided to take a random road trip there with my new car (his name is Sebastian aka Winter Solider). 

I took a ride to see if I could meet Lisa Vanderpump, since I’m a big RHOBH fan.  She was making an appearance to promote her new rosé. I didn’t know what to expect. I also don’t understand why the hell this event was in Swansea. You would think they would do this much closer to Boston! We found out they were staying at a hotel in Boston anyway. Swansea is about an hour outside of Boston.

Anyway, if I had pre-planned it, I would have gotten up earlier and brought my beach chair. I also would have downloaded some movies to my tablet, and brought my giant battery charger. But alas, I wasn’t all that prepared. Thankfully I had the foresight to bring some water, umbrella, I dressed warm, and wore my heavier jacket. I got there about 15 minutes before the meet and greet. They were only guaranteeing the first 400 bottles sold, a spot to get the bottle autographed and picture taken with Lisa. When I pulled in, I knew there was well over 400 people in line. The line wrapped around the parking lot. I couldn’t get a good picture, but there is one of the crazy line in my collage. 

My instinct was to turn around and go home after I saw the line. But I didn’t have anything else going on that morning, so I opted to stand in line and see what happens. They did say if she had time left after the initial 400 bottles, she would get pictures with as many people as she could. We did meet Jason in the parking lot (Lisa’s son-in-law). He was nice enough to greet the massive line. We stood in line for a little over 2 hours before we got close to the entrance. But we flagged down a woman who just left, and she said she was number like 240 or something. She was just over 50% done, after two hours. Lisa had to leave by 2 and it was already past 1pm at that point. I honestly don’t think she even had time to get thru the 400 people that were supposed to be “guaranteed” a spot. I left after that, I would be more upset if I was the back half of the 400 people and got turned away. BTW, some people lined up at 4am! WHAT THE SHIT?!! I don’t like anyone that much. Bitches be crazy! 

She should have hired someone else to make things more efficient. I don’t understand why they didn’t have the bottles pre-signed?! She would have saved a ton of time that way. Also, it seems like they didn’t stop people from telling Lisa their life story once they approached her. They should have someone from Comic Con running that shit. At Comic Con photo ops, they don’t allow anyone to be there for more than 20 seconds. It ensures that everyone has a chance to meet the person and get their picture. It was poorly planned and in a very inconvenient location.

On the plus side, Andy and I had a date night on Memorial Day. We saw Solo and then went out for dinner and drinks. All in all, a successful weekend, despite the time suck that was a poorly-planned celebrity meeting.

NEW YEAR AND SUCH

I rung in the new year with a light up skirt

New Years Eve has come and gone. This year we went to the Green Briar. It wasn’t super crowded, which was great! I also rocked a light up skirt, it was a big hit. Some people stopped me to take pictures of the light up marvel too. Haha!

We had a good group going. We snagged a couple of corner tables, so we could have space to put our jackets. This was key, since there wasn’t a coat check. I also hoarded some new years swag in my coat, that I  (of course) forgot about. Oh well, I’ll save it for next year.

I’m not really doing resolutions. But I’ve completed some 30 Day Fitness Challenges before, on an app. So I’m going to pick a new one each month to do. That should keep me busy for a while. I know it will be impossible to do the challenge every single day in 2017, but I’m going to do as much as I can. I like the app because it reminds you to use it everyday. Handy!

MY PRIZE WINNING PUMPKIN SKILLZ

I can’t believe October is over already. I feel like I’ve been anxiously awaiting Halloween. It’s one of my favorite holidays, after all. But it came and went so quickly. Please enjoy my prize-winning BB-8 pumpkin! This year my department sponsored my pumpkin, so I didn’t have to pay for the supplies out of pocket. So the pumpkin is really the departments pumpkin, and they were quite impressed with my handy work. It was definitely the best pumpkin at our work party. No offense to the other pumpkins, they came out great as well. But BB-8 was a show stopper. I rigged it to flash, and stuck a Bluetooth speaker under his head to  make him beep. Making him beep was a request from one of my co-workers, and I was happy to oblige. I’m glad I happen to have a small enough speaker to get the job done. 

I feel like I need a vacation from my weekends in October. I certainly jam-packed them with activities. In addition to partying it up, I’ve been trying to get back on track with my diet/exercise routine. I’ve been doing pretty well with it, just a few cheat meals mixed in. I can’t help it, I need balance, yo! I ended up jogging 5k yesterday when I got home from work. I was trying to take full-advantage of the Pokemon Go Halloween promotion. I actually did a lot better than I thought.

I hate running though, I don’t mind walking at all. I actually love walking! But I was forced to run yesterday because I didn’t have much time to squeeze in the 5k before heading out last night. Stupid Niantic, not making the game rely solely on a pedometer. I’m hoping they will do that with another build. They can’t be mean and expect us people that actually have winter to be jogging around in 6ft snow banks. HAVE MERCY ON OUR SNOW-RIDDEN SOULS! Granted, I think I’m one of three people worldwide that still plays that game. My strange commitment to it is quite maddening. 

So what did I do on Halloween? I actually didn’t do much. I could have gone out and gotten more use out of my Millennium Falcon get up, but I had to much to get done. Instead Andy and I grabbed a bite to eat and met with the contractor doing the work on our apartment. He is going to start the heating/cooling system this week. Which means we’ll be getting rid of the giant old skool metal radiators in our new place. Progress!

21DF PROGRESS!

Since my last post, I completed my second round of the the 21 Day Fix. I didn’t end up at my goal weight because my stupid “monthly bill” threw a wrench into things. So I couldn’t get an accurate weight measurement. Then shortly after, I left for a trip to Italy. I knew going into it, attempting to diet would be a big fat, LOL! So I paused it during my trip and gained a few pounds, which I’ve lost since. But now I need to work on getting back to my goals. I’ve been really good about working out when I got back. The good news, my pants and tops are fitting much better (YAY, NO NEW PANTS!). Also a dress I bought that was too small, no longer requires Crisco and fishing line for me to wear. Not that it stopped me from wearing it before, haha!

I’m not attempting a 3rd round of the 21 Day Fix because I’m tired of the workouts. So I got a monthly membership to Workout Trainer app. There are hundreds of workouts on it, so I do a different one everyday. The best part, I can follow along on my tablet while watching the Housewives on TV. I have to be watching TV or something while I’m working out. It distracts me and forces me to keep on a truckin’. You can either stream video, video with timer cues only, or follow step-by-step instructions with pictures. This app is more my speed! I hated having to pop in DVD’s for 21DF. I’ve reached the point in my life where I can’t even be bothered to pop a DVD in anymore. I prefer to stream things.

Oh yeah, 21 Day Fix diet (a.k.a eating healthy) is going okay. I’ve relaxed my grip a little on it.  I usually reserve Saturday nights as my cheat meal. Plus I may toss a couple extra cheat meals into the mix, if I’m meeting friends for dinner. So I try to eat small healthy meals during the day to compensate. I knew the diet wouldn’t be a forever thing, but I stick to it most of the time.

I JUST DIDN’T WANT TO BUY NEW PANTS

So I survived my first round of the 21 Day Fix! I’m taking a couple of days off and starting up again. But I’m not sure I’m going to do the doubles week, I actually didn’t lose any extra weight from it. So I’d rather just sleep in, haha! Working out 7 days a week is going to be tricky though, I’m going away a few weekends this summer. I’m also heading to Italy. So I may just skip the weekend workouts and tack them on during the week. Which means twice a week I’m doing doubles, yikes! It will be worth it though, because then I don’t have to buy new pants. That’s really the whole reason I’m trying to get back down to my normal size, I don’t feel like pants shopping. Not that I’m up a full size or anything, but I’m definitely teetering on busting a seam.

I’m just glad I’m seeing progress from completing the 21 Day Fix and eating healthier! I wasn’t sure I was going to manage the diet part, but I removed a lot of unhealthy food from my house (as much as Andy would allow). I replaced the snacks with healthier options. I’ve actually become addicted to peanut butter and sliced apples. Weird, right?! Let’s see how much longer I can keep this up. Although, I did allow myself some cheat meals over the weekend.

21 DAY FIX UPDATE

I’m rounding down my second week of the 21-Day Fix. Which means, the part I’m dreading is coming up…DOUBLES WEEK!

That’s right, I’ll have to double up on the workouts my final week. I’m not looking forward to this at all. But I’ve devised a schedule which will make it easier. I’m deviating slightly from the one they recommend. This way, I only have to wake up early a few days a week to do a workout. The system is going well for me so far. Despite not following the “containers” part of the diet, I’ve been eating all healthy and lost 3 pounds! It’s funny how much fuller I feel eating healthier foods, as opposed to Oreo’s and mac & cheese. I was thinking I would be STARVING all the time, but I’m not. Also, my skin is starting to clear up more. Not that I resembled a 17 year-old fry cook, but I definitely have some blemishes. 

While I’m not trying to get unhealthy skinny, I do want to get back to my regularly scheduled weight. Ever since I moved out a few years ago, my diet has gone from healthy-ish, to college freshmen living off Ramen and cupcakes. Thus my weight has creeped up quite a bit! I’m still not near my goal, which I probably won’t reach for another couple of months or so (cuz I’m doing this the safe way). Basically this is only the beginning! After doubles week, I’m going to start the program again and take it from there. WISH ME ALL THE LUCK AND RAMEN BROCCOLI!

FROM THE TRENCHES

Dear Blog,

I’m reporting from the workout trenches. I survived the 3-day cleanse, and will definitely try a cheaper and less tedious option next time. I mean, I’m glad I tried it. I’ve never done a cleanse before, so I thought it might be nice to kick start my 21 Day Fix routine. The cleanse involved 4 shakes a day, along with 3 real-food meals and two snacks. I liked that I was able to eat during the cleanse,  but didn’t like the shake flavors. The chocolate breakfast shake was almost okay, but the mid-morning fiber shake was yucky! The lunch and dinner shakes are vanilla and not great tasting either. But the vanilla shakes are definitely better than the fiber one!

I’m glad I survived the cleanse and shockingly wasn’t very hungry! But I’m very glad I can go back to all solid foods, and not pinching my nose to guzzle gross shakes as quickly as possible. I found different cleanses online that involve vitamins instead of shakes, I just have to research more. Although I’ve been keeping up with the workouts,  I find the diet “container” system really confusing.  I have some pre-made meal plans from 21 Day Fix groups, so I will gather the ingredients for those next time I shop. But I won’t be shopping for a while since our last couple of grocery bills were crazy. So for now I’m winging it a little with the diet.  I’m still learning and I’m sure I’ll get better with meal planning as I go along.  I still have to work on reading labels more.  I’m often shocked at how many things have sugar and salt.

I have the day off, since I’m going to a wedding this weekend. But till then, ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK BINGE-WATCH FEST!
