I’m finally getting around to posting about a Halloween party I went to on Saturday night. It was with a bunch of friends. I dressed as Sailor Pluto. I picked her because she has this cool staff, despite not knowing much about her character. I haven’t watched the old Sailor Moon anime series since I was a kid, but I am not sure if Sailor Pluto is really in many episodes of the newer Sailor Moon Crystal series. I’ve only watched a few episodes of it so far.
Anyway, the costume itself was a little pricey. It was also extremely short, barely covers “me arse” so I rocked a petticoat with it. I still loved the costume though, it was a hit, especially at the bar after. I was dared to order a drink with my staff. It took a several attempts, but I completed the task and got a free beer out of some 23 year-old kid hanging around us. I guess that is what happens when you pick a lesser-known character from the series. But I wasn’t anticipating the staff she uses only be sold for over $100 on Amazon. To that I say, GO FUCK YOURSELF GREEDY SELLERS! Know what I did instead? Purchased a clearance section Queen of Hearts staff, some spray paint, and foam heart online. Andy painted it and remodeled the top of the staff for me. PLUS it lights up, which the ones on Amazon don’t do. Turns out, Sailor Pluto is a pretty cool sailor scout. She is the guardian of space and time, and also darkness. BADASS! Apparently she can also stop time, which is pretty amazing. I didn’t have a chance to test out this superpower.
The party was fun. We had not one, but TWO cereal killers! We also had Mrs. Doubtfire, Voodoo Doll, Little Red Riding Hood, some Ricks (Rick & Morty), and my sailor scout friends (including a clever Sailor Goth!), and other cool costumes. We did some dancing, and watched movies, all while being stalked by the kitty that wouldn’t let us pet her. Naughty Babette! Around midnight, we walked in a weirdo-parade to the bar to show off our costumes. I’m sure we were quite the vision.

I don’t care that it is still technically summer until the 22nd. I am ready for fall! I did a big haul of online shopping last week and hit up the mall on Monday. It’s time to get that fall wardrobe ready. I ordered a lot of Halloween-ish stuff, like the skirt and shirt in the picture. But I can’t resist glow in the dark shirts or dresses! I even got some new shoes, including a pair with bats. I don’t care that it’s really only socially acceptable to wear the Halloween clothes in October. I plan to stretch that rule, so I can get my moneys worth. I did pick up some non-Halloween clothes and shoes as well. Don’t worry, mom!
It’s too bad it doesn’t feel like fall yet. But at the same time, I don’t mind the warm weather, I hope it’s not cold on my wedding day! I plan to have an outdoor ceremony. But my venue does have an indoor space to use, if the weather isn’t cooperative. Speaking of, we’re getting close here folks! A little over two weeks away and I’m quietly freaking out. I just hope I don’t feel overwhelmed on the big day and freeze up.
Okay guys, confession time. Ever since my co-worker discovered the “brunch favorites” edition of candy corn at Target, I was hooked. The flavors are strange for candy corn, like French toast with maple syrup, chocolate chip pancakes, and waffles with strawberry. But damned if I can’t say, they are the most delicious candy corn I’ve ever had.
Given that candy corn is mostly sold around Halloween, I didn’t have much time to stock up. These candy corn flavors are exclusive to Target, so I grabbed a few bags one day during my lunch break.
I gave a bag to a co-worker who also appreciates candy corn, as a Halloween gift. I saved the other two bags for myself, and if a random co-worker wanted some. Well, let me tell you, these candy corn bags did not last long at all. Want to know who ate the other two bags in their entirety? ME! I have no self control with these candies.
I feel like that old guy in the
80’s 70’s commercial that was like, “I can’t believe I ate that whole thing.” Well dear diary, I did eat that whole thing. Ever since I polished off the last of it, Target has sold through their stock. I was devastated, as I walked every single aisle with no remnant of a clearance Halloween candy shelf. They needed to make room for the candy canes. What about the candy corns?!!! Huh, Target?!! I found some remaining bags on Amazon. I started off just by ordering a pack of two. Mostly because I didn’t feel like spending $28 on four bags of candy.
The next day, I decided to polish off some Christmas shopping, so I ordered some gifts online. Know what mysteriously (deliberately) made it’s way into my cart? Another two pack of this candy corn. SEND HELP AND INSULIN! I’m hoping I’ll get sick of this candy corn with my first shipment. So by the time the second one arrives, I’ll be 1000% all set with this crack candy.
Over the weekend, I went to Rise of the Jack-o-Lantern’s. I’ve always wanted to go a similar event at a local zoo, except I heard it is an actual nightmare. Filled with long lines, cold temperatures, fuck loads of baby carriages, and not one clear view of a pumpkin. Uh, pass. At least this event was indoors, and large.
We had plenty of room to move around and check out the pumpkins. the event boasts 5000 pumpkins, but I suspect most of them were the filler pumpkins on the floor, decorated by random people. Uh, some were better than others.
Thankfully we didn’t pay much for the tickets, but I’m not sure I’d go back next year. The professional pumpkins were quite impressive. But a lot of people don’t understand basic concepts like NOT USING FLASH ON A PRE-LIT PUMPKIN. What the hell is wrong with people?!
I can’t believe October is over already. I feel like I’ve been anxiously awaiting Halloween. It’s one of my favorite holidays, after all. But it came and went so quickly. Please enjoy my prize-winning BB-8 pumpkin! This year my department sponsored my pumpkin, so I didn’t have to pay for the supplies out of pocket. So the pumpkin is really the departments pumpkin, and they were quite impressed with my handy work. It was definitely the best pumpkin at our work party. No offense to the other pumpkins, they came out great as well. But BB-8 was a show stopper. I rigged it to flash, and stuck a Bluetooth speaker under his head to make him beep. Making him beep was a request from one of my co-workers, and I was happy to oblige. I’m glad I happen to have a small enough speaker to get the job done.
I feel like I need a vacation from my weekends in October. I certainly jam-packed them with activities. In addition to partying it up, I’ve been trying to get back on track with my diet/exercise routine. I’ve been doing pretty well with it, just a few cheat meals mixed in. I can’t help it, I need balance, yo! I ended up jogging 5k yesterday when I got home from work. I was trying to take full-advantage of the Pokemon Go Halloween promotion. I actually did a lot better than I thought.
I hate running though, I don’t mind walking at all. I actually love walking! But I was forced to run yesterday because I didn’t have much time to squeeze in the 5k before heading out last night. Stupid Niantic, not making the game rely solely on a pedometer. I’m hoping they will do that with another build. They can’t be mean and expect us people that actually have winter to be jogging around in 6ft snow banks. HAVE MERCY ON OUR SNOW-RIDDEN SOULS! Granted, I think I’m one of three people worldwide that still plays that game. My strange commitment to it is quite maddening.
So what did I do on Halloween? I actually didn’t do much. I could have gone out and gotten more use out of my Millennium Falcon get up, but I had to much to get done. Instead Andy and I grabbed a bite to eat and met with the contractor doing the work on our apartment. He is going to start the heating/cooling system this week. Which means we’ll be getting rid of the giant old skool metal radiators in our new place. Progress!
Guys, I’ve officially had to resign the idea of finding the song from my last blog post. I could record myself humming the tune and post it to a music forum I found, but I think it best to give up my search. I checked my computer again last night and it yielded no results. Maybe someday I will find it, if I happen to be listening to an early to mid 00’s alt-rock station, but I think I have better odds of winning the jackpot.
No matter, I have to switch into Halloween mode anyway. This year I’m starting a bit earlier than normal. It’s because my friends have decided to start sending out invites to parties NOW. Plus, I’m going on vacation soon and will be gone 8 days. This will inhibit my time to work on the rather ambitious costume idea I have in mind. I almost shot myself in the foot last year. I had a costume picked out, then I was hit with sudden inspiration a day before my friends party. So I made a trip to the craft store, and express shipped a giant beach ball to myself, and had a Tim Gunn “make it work” moment.
Anyway, while I could pull off making this costume all by myself, I’m enlisting the help of Andy. Despite the fact he HATES dressing up for Halloween, he loves to build things. So he is more than happy to assist with engineering my Halloween costume. I’m not revealing what my costume is, but it’s going to make the one I made last year look like child’s play.
Last years Deathstar costume, it actually only took me a half day to make.
I’m glad he is helping me, otherwise this costume would take me FOREVER to construct on my own. Plus, I shouldn’t be trusted with power tools and electricity. So he will be handling the heavy duty cutting, and electrical work. The rest is basically up to painting, assembly, and praying it works! The only part I’m nervous about is the fitting, I’m worried it will not fit the way I want. But I think as long as we don’t make it too small, it can be adjusted. He is confident my idea can be pulled off. I’ve already selected materials and design. Andy is drafting construction and measurement ideas (I can’t be trusted with math either, haha). Wish me luck! If we pull this off, I’m definitely entering it in some kind of costume contest.I have a backup plan, if this idea falls through. But I am quite confident in Andy’s construction abilities.
I won’t be blogging the rest of the week. I have a girls trip planned with my friend. I’ll cheers you from the beach, with my drank in hand.
I went to two Halloween parties this weekend. I had a lot of fun! The one on Friday was a big party at a bar that moved locations. We didn’t stay the whole night, as the bartenders were awful and the place was crazy packed. Plus I was sick of people touching my costume. I value my personal space, yo! One girl actually reached under my Death Star skirt (again!!!). She was basically the same girl as last week that “just loved” my costume, without knowing what it is. She also suggested I enter it into some sort of vague contest. I’m just really glad I didn’t ask if she was wearing a bird costume, since she was wearing a feather vest. Towards the end of our 20 minute convo, she mentioned she doesn’t wear costumes. Anyway, the only bartender I liked, was the one that dressed like Dexter. Highlight of the evening was when two girls walked in, with what looked like light-up penises on their heads. I think they were attempting to be unicorns, but they looked more like unitards. After that, we went to our favorite watering hole and played pool.
Yesterday, I went to my friend Fiona’s party. She did a fantastic job decorating! There was loads of fake spider webs, food, and skulls. We all had a great time!
There was also a costume contest! Andy and I took home the best “couples costume” award. Although, I will say it was an accident that we ended up as a couples costume. I already have a list saved of costume ideas for next year, none are a couples costume. I’ll spare Andy that annoyance again. My favorite costume idea so far, involves loads of face paint. But I already own the perfect shoes for it too! By the way, Andy added lights to my costume, aren’t they awesome?!
