I TOOK SUMMER VERY SERIOUSLY…

tumblr_o6imu5fYYG1sz111so1_540

Sorry guys, gotta run home to watch Sailor Moon

As a kid, I took summer very seriously. It was a time for TV, ice cream trucks, running through sprinklers, riding bikes, playing Legend of Zelda or the Home Alone game on my trusty Game Boy, and eating too many Pringles. TV was the key component for me, as my dad would be at work so I had the TV all to myself! SWEET GLORY BE!

Seeing as summer is a sacred time when you’re a kid, I had to figure out a TV schedule. This was back in the day when you had to turn to the TV Guide channel or consult an actual TV Guide to figure out what time/channel a show was on. So I would use the TV Guide and a notebook to outline the times and channels of the best “day time” TV. Options were limited, as day time TV is generally boring. I mostly relied on Nickelodeon, PBS, Disney Channel (when it became available with normal cable packages, my parents wouldn’t pay for the channel outright), and Cartoon Network. I relied on my notebook to tell me what I could watch during the day. I even threw in some This old House, Aleene’s Craft Show, and Keeping up Appearances.

After lunch I would usually hang out with my friends outside. We built a really rickety tree fort. It was miraculous nobody fell off and broke a bone while using it. I also started up a Harriet the Spy club at some point. It mostly consisted of tracking peoples whereabouts, and notes on where to catch the best frogs and caterpillars. But I knew as soon as 5pm hit I had to run home to catch Sailor Moon. I would just dip out  and watch Sailor Moon. After that it was dinner time!

Oh yeah, I usually chased down the ice cream man on the odd chance I had money. When I got older, my friend and I had a crush on the ice cream man, so we used to peek out the window when he drove past to get a good look at him, for our Harriet the Spy notes. Fun times! Now my summers are filled with the same exact thing I do during all the other seasons, work 40 hours a week.

HELLO, BLOG!

A lot has happened the past couple of weeks, and I forgot to blog. Now I don’t know where to begin? I guess we can start with some important news. I set my wedding date and venue. After scouting a bunch of places online for their packages, meal options, and price point, we went with the second place we actually visited. It’s a local hotel that offers some really good deals, that are a good value (as far as weddings go). I’m very happy to have the venue, food, date, DJ, flowers, and cake figured out. It’s all included with the package. That takes most of the major things off the list. I probably won’t do much else in the area of wedding planning for the rest of this year.

Anyway, is it sad that I’m still tired from the weekend? On Thursday we went out for dinner and drinks. The pretzels in the picture were sooo good. I just love soft pretzels. I also recall catching a lot of Pokemon in the restaurant parking lot, haha.

Did I mention it’s been INSANELY hot in Boston for a couple of weeks now? Well Friday was certainly no exception. I met up with some friends at the bar. I decided to walk, thinking it would be cooler out. It wasn’t, dear diary. It was not cooler AT ALL. It was so stinking humid. I thought once I got to the bar, it  would be nice and cool. NOPE.

Turns out, they have the suckiest air conditioning ever. Or maybe it wasn’t working? I honestly don’t remember. I just remember it being really fucking hot, to the point where I went outside every time one of my friends wanted a cigarette just to cool down. I did get a Coronarita, that helped. But the bar refused to open the windows, despite it being cooler outdoors. It was supposed to rain, but it never happened so that’s why they didn’t want to open the windows at first. After the bar, we went to a friends house to enjoy her porch. But I didn’t get to stay long. I had to go to a party down the street, which we could hear from the porch. The party was fun, but it was just too darn hot at their new place. There was typical stuff like beer pong and flip cup.

So Saturday I had (yet another) party to attend. It was for a friends birthday, he has it every year in his back yard. At least on Saturday it wasn’t really humid. So hanging outside was fine. I was even able to find some Harpoon Camp Wannamango at the liquor store. I took their last 12 pack, yippie!

OMG, this is like the blog post that never ends. Sorry, I’m almost done. On Sunday, Andy and I went to a show. We pretty much go every year, the line up was pretty good for Summerland 2016. We saw Sponge, Lit, Sugar Ray, and Everclear. This time only Sponge came out to sign autographs and take pictures. I’ve met Sponge a few times already, they are very nice to their fans. I might edit this post later and drum up some of the pictures I took with Vinnie (the lead singer) from Sponge. In previous years, I met Eve 6, Filter, and Alien Ant Farm as well. The show was very good. Hell, even Mark McGrath made fun of himself for still having highlights. Gotta love the 90s’, amirite? Oh yes, there were lots of people wearing hemp necklaces, bucket hats, and sporting mushroom cuts. It was quite the sight!

DR. FRASIER CRANE?

image

I went to the zoo and named this crane Dr. Frasier Crane

It’s totally blasphemous that it’s Monday already. It’s just plain rude!  Anyway, I had another busy weekend. I went out for dinner and drinks with friends on Friday. I had a delicious drink that tasted like a Jolly Rancher. On Saturday I finally got to see Erin! We went to the Roger Williams Zoo. There is a zoo that is a lot closer to her house, but we decided to change things up. As much as I like the RWZ, the zoo near Erin’s house is much larger.

image

We wandered around the zoo for a bit. I took many selfies with flamingos, elephants, and giraffes. The weather was nice, it wasn’t too warm. After the zoo, we had a seriously amazing dinner at this new Mexican restaurant near Erin’s house. I’m still dreaming of the fresh guacamole. They have a guy in the restaurant with a cart, and he makes guacamole right at your table. It is the best guacamole I’ve had. I wish this place was close to me, so I could go back again.

We planned to see the movie Central Intelligence at the drive-in movie theater near her house. So we gathered up camping chairs, blankets, bug repellent, and snacks. The movie doesn’t start until about 9pm. But we decided to show up at 7, to scope out a good spot. Turns out, all our prep and getting there 2 hours early was moot. The line to get into the drive-in well over a mile long. WTF?!

I’ve gone to this drive-in about a half dozen times over the years, and never had to wait in a crazy line. We think the line was for Finding Dory, which was on the first screen. That is why we planned to see Central Intelligence on the other screen. Thankfully there is also a movie theater near her house, so we tossed the snacks into a purse and snuck them into the theater. Central Intelligence was really funny! I love The Rock, so I probably would have seen it even if it was bad.

PS. It turns out, even if we did get to the drive-in early enough, it was too chaotic to enjoy the movie. My co-worker’s brother tried to go, and had to leave the movie. The drive-in was completely unorganzied and crazy this past weekend. We dodged a bullet there!

2 TICKETS TO PARADISE

wp-1466172571438.jpg

I forgot to post about my awesome hair, haha. I went to the salon over the weekend to get my hair done. I had her touch up the purple and add a layer of blue. There isn’t much contrast between the two colors, but I dig it. I don’t think the blue will last as long as the purple, but no matter. It seriously looks like I’m trying to make bath tub wine when I wash my hair. The dye gets everywhere. I can’t even have my nails painted a light color because the dye will turn my nails purple. It’s kind of unnerving, but beauty is sacrifice!

Anyway, I finally booked my flights for our vacation in September.Apparently Andy thought I booked them weeks ago, oops!  We’re going on  a really awesome desert adventure, plus a wedding. We have a laundry list of things to check out like, the Grand Canyon, Sedona, ghost towns, hot air balloon, observatory, and a trip to that abandoned plane field as featured in Can’t Buy Me Love! We will be renting a car and cruising around America’s South West. In addition to flights, I also booked some hotels for my other summer adventures. I can’t wait to go to the beach and hang with friends this summer!

IT’S THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR

image

Today is June 1st, which is the start of a glorious three month reprieve from the asshole college kids. I love this time of year because you can maybe have a chance at finding parking, maybe not wait as long for tables at  local restaurants, and the doucheiness level drops off. It’s the best!

Now if only none of them returned, wouldn’t that be lovely?! Can that be a thing? I should really start a campaign for online education. Nothing wrong with earning a degree online, from their homes…in South Dakota or someplace else far the fuck away from me. I feel like an old person, complaining about the young kids. But I didn’t even like college kids when I was in college. So basically, I was born old.

To be fair, it’s not all colleges that harbor assholes. Just seems to be the ones near where I live now. I grew up around the corner from a college, never had any problems, except sometimes on graduation day. Then again, we’re talking about college in the suburbs, where there is ample student parking. But I live in the city now, a city which has around 35 colleges. Umm, yuck. So you can understand my distaste. But this will be the last time I really have to deal with them. I’m moving back the burbs sometime this year. Let me tell you, I CAN’T FUDGING WAIT!!

THE WEDDING! (Euro trip Pt. 2)

image

This is going to be another short recap. We got up early to get ready for the wedding. We walked down to my aunt’s house in fancy dress to have pizza for breakfast. No joke! But there was loads of other food there too.  After, we headed to the church. It was honestly the best wedding I’ve ever been too. I’m so happy for my cousin. His wife is very kind and sweet!

Not only was it gorgeous with good food, I got to hang out with relatives I haven’t seen in a long time. I caught up with my French cousins, British cousins, Italian cousins, and Michigan cousins. I didn’t see any of my Canadian cousins, but I think most of them are my dad’s side of the family anyway.

image

The wedding was beautiful! It was the first time I got to throw rice. People also threw pasta because, ITALY!  I totally cringed when pasta was tossed on the Rolls Royce. I can be such a guy sometimes.

image

We had to drive about 30 minutes to the reception. It was at a really pretty restaurant. Appetizers were served in a tent. I laughed when I saw they were serving French fries and onion rings. There was loads of other food as well, more sophisticated. After the tent, we went inside for 10 MORE COURSES OF FOOD (because ITALY)!! The rain waited until we were all indoors to happen. It was the only day with crappy weather during my 10 day trip. The rest of the time it was extremely hot and also sunny.

ANYWAY, cue more food. Each course was excellent. We danced and sang family karaoke. Hell, I even danced the Marcarena for these people. Now that’s love right there.

DAY ONE! (Euro trip) Pt. 1

image

This recap post is going to be short. Mostly because I didn’t do a lot my first day, aside from seeing relatives and shopping. Also, also, I’m really tired and don’t feel like blogging. Ha!

So we arrived in Italy and I didn’t sleep on the plane. I closed my eyes for an hour or two, but basically took advantage of the free movies and TV on the plane. I essentially spent 8 hours watching Broad City. I felt fine though. Once we landed, we grabbed some espressos, because ITALY!

The city my aunt lives in is about an hour outside Milano, nestled near the mountains. The view from the B&B was gorgeous, can’t beat mountain view with the pool. Amiright?! Anyway, we had a big family dinner that night and caught up with relatives. I also took a much needed nap before dinner. Otherwise I would have fallen asleep on a pillow of ravioli. My family drinks Beck’s beer, which I thought was odd considering it’s a German beer. But no matter! But you know the saying, when in Rome Milan, drink German beer!
