MAKE IT A SPA DAY

I’ve been sick for a few days and haven’t been sleeping well. It’s basically because my body refuses to let me be a mouth-breather. So sleeping at night with a stuffy nose, consists of not sleeping at all. Despite pumping myself with decongestants. I’ve found a good combo of saline spray and saline gel at night so I can do that breathing thing.

But I haven’t had time to catch up on sleep. So I’m feeling a bit long in the tooth. I dont actually know what that phrase means, but I’m going to imagine myself as a scraggly bunny in dire need of sleep.

So we’re shooting to hopefully move in less than a few weeks. Which means there is no such thing as downtime or sleep. It sucks. I’m trying to find a balance between packing and having a social life. Easier said than done.

I can’t wait for the move to be over. I’m beginning to feel like Tom Hanks at the end of The Burbs, when he accidentally sets that guys house on fire, and then the neighbor tries to murder him in the ambulance. Trouble is, I already feel like setting myself on fire and we haven’t even moved yet.

They opened a new spa near work that does those saltwater pod things. I’m seriously considering booking a session next week. Otherwise I fear I may go mad!

I REFUSE TO PANIC [LOLZ]

panic

The reno on my new place is a roller coaster. One week we’re on time, then the next we’re not, and we’re back to on time? So now that the place is starting to look  more like a dwelling, and less like an industrial disco. I need to book movers. I’ve been trying my best to spend any spare time purging things, and we’ve done a little bit of packing.

I need to keep chipping away at it. I’m hoping to move around Easter weekend, that Monday is a holiday at work (Marathon Monday). Since our office is along the Boston Marathon route, it’s closed. I’d like to piggy-back on the day off. Thankfully we’re able to move some things as we go, but they need to be stored in the basement. I also have some Ikea furniture to order, and it’s tricky to figure out when that can be delivered. I can’t have things delivered too early, because the hardwood floors need to be done. Argh!

Since moving gives me crazy anxiety, I’m trying my bestest not panic. This will be a challenge for sure. Keep calm, and move on?

WHOA, WHY YOU WANNA GIVE ME THE RUN-AROUND?

I ordered a bridesmaids dress for my BFF Ginny’s wedding off Amazon. She opted to let us pick our own dresses, which is great. So I thought I found a great option and ordered it, despite the $20 shipping charge. Not only that, the dress would take almost a month to arrive. I think the long lead time had to do with the shipping location, and the seller supposedly custom stitching the dress to your specified measurements. I ordered the dress, despite the expensive shipping cost and shipping time. They asked for my measurements, and I sent them along right away to avoid delays.

About 3-4 weeks later, I got the dress. The color wasn’t what I was expecting, but I guess it is regency purple (since I ordered another dress from a different seller and the color is the same). The fabric on the skirt was also not what I was expecting. But I guess that can be the hazard of ordering things online? That is beside the point. The dress was about six sizes too large. Yes, SIX! I have no idea why they bothered asking for measurements when they clearly didn’t bother checking. Ugh.  I contacted the seller and sent them the measurements of the dress vs the measurements I gave them. After some back and forth, involving me taking loads of pictures with a measuring tape to show the size difference and screenshots of my original email to them, they agreed the dress was totally wrong. Uh, NO DUH!

Instead of being normal and offering me a full refund, they wanted to offer a partial refund and use the money to get it altered. I kid you not. I LOL’d at this, and declined. I’m pretty sure it would cost more than the full price of the dress with the crazy shipping to get it altered. Not only that, I don’t actually think the dress could be altered that much. You’re really only supposed to take dresses down two sizes, not six. So they gave me the refund on the dress, not the shipping. This was not acceptable to me. After all, it wasn’t my fault they sent the completely wrong size.

They said I could keep the dress as it was “customized to my measurements” [**COUGH**] and couldn’t resell it. Which I find perplexing, but whatever.

At this point, I was a bit sick of dealing with this seller as it was like pulling teeth to get them to admit the error and refund me. So a couple days later, I opted to reach out to Amazon directly to see if they could get my shipping refunded, or at least get it as Amazon credit. I guess what ended up happening was I opened claim. Since I’m not a seller, I don’t know how severe claims are against your seller rating. I ended up getting a sob story from the seller, saying she could lose her job…etc. I’m guessing they must have other claims against them, in order for the seller to freak.

I have no idea if her story is true or not, but I gave her the benefit of the doubt and cancelled the claim. This allowed her the chance to refund my shipping without my re-opening it. Now suddenly, she wanted me to send the dress back?! She claimed it was part of the Amazon policy, but seeing as I cancelled the claim, I have my doubts.

She sent me an address of a person named Alex…who apparently doesn’t have a last name to ship the dress. I was mad at this point. So I opted to wait a few days before replying back. But hey, I’m still mad. So I called her out on the mysterious person with no last name, and told her I’d be happy to send the dress back, once she gives me a prepaid label to do so. TBD on what happens now, I’m expecting another sob story. In the meantime, I got another dress. I’m not in love with it, but it fits and it’s appropriate for the wedding.

THE MOST BOSTON ST. PATRICK’S DAY

wp-1490028709701.jpg

Since I’m not 21 anymore, I don’t end up doing much on St. Patrick’s Day. Typically, I’ll have an early-ish dinner with a couple drinks and go home. But not this year! My friend Patrick was in town from DC, and I haven’t seen him in a long time. So I felt it my duty to show him a good ol’ fashioned Boston St. Patrick’s Day. We ended up at my local watering hole, because it was our friends birthday. So Patrick got to meet my friends and celebrate with us. We managed to get the coveted corner spot. It’s ideal because people generally won’t try to cram themselves there to get drinks, and we have quick access to the bar.

The roving bagpipers came by again. I feel like for the past 3 or 4 years I’ve witnessed a group of bagpipers, go to different bars on St. Patrick’s Day and play a quick set before heading to another bar. This has happened to me numerous times. Maybe I’m being followed?! Anyway, they did a good job.

We also had Andy’s friend Doug visiting us. He was wearing kilts all weekend, so he had no problem jig dancing to their music. They actually came by a few times throughout the night. I stayed out a bit later than I intended, but I was having a good time. One of my neighbors even turned up, and we did a shot of whiskey.

The people-watching was prime. I mean, that’s the main reason to go out on St. Patrick’s Day in Boston. You have to watch all the drunken shenanigans go down. I think I did a decent job of showing Patrick and Doug a typical Boston St. Patrick’s Day. Although, there was no green puke in the streets when we rambled out the door.

Doug had tickets to the Dropkick Murphy’s show on Saturday. He had an extra ticket, so my friend Fiona was able to join us for the show. Doug had good tickets, we were in the floor section! I had a good time at the show. The two openers were fun, they got the crowd all pumped.

We didn’t have seats, so everyone in the floor section was standing around. This was good for dancing. There were also people moshing. But it wasn’t aggressive moshing, it did make me nervous to get bowled over. So I hid behind Andy, haha! It was good I did, because a big guy actually got knocked down and had to be brought away. He wasn’t maliciously pushed, he just lost his balance while he was moshing around. At the end of the show, the band had their whole family on stage for the encore.

Although I had a very “Boston” St. Patrick’s Day, I stopped short of going to the parade on Sunday. I’m not a parade person to begin with, and the gay veterans weren’t allowed to march (they ended up being allowed, but it was a big controversy at first) so the fact that was even an issue left a bad taste for me.  I spent my Sunday watching Beauty & the Beast. I actually really liked it. But I honestly haven’t seen the cartoon version since I was a kid, so I don’t know how close it was to that version. Doesn’t matter to me anyhow. I’m going to see it again at some point, with my friend Erin.

BLING BLING

wp-1489676789346.jpg

My friend and I got to do something really exciting this week! We got to meet the queen of bling herself, Sondra! She is the genius behind all the gypsy gowns on a hit TLC reality show. My BFF and I watch all the time and dish about it. She is actually a local person and her studio is about 15 minutes from my apartment. So we are commissioning her to make a really fun (and of course BLINGY!) belt for my wedding dress. I can’t wait to see it!

My friend and I were so happy to meet her. Her studio is amazing, not one surface left un-sparkled. Heck, even the address plate on her building is straight blingin’. She is also really nice. She spent some time in her busy day to talk with us and take a picture in front of her pink creation. I hope to see this dress on a gypsy bride soon!

I can’t wait to go back and see what my belt looks like, I’m hoping I can use it for something after my wedding too as I’m sure I’ll want to wear it again. Anyway, my veil should be arriving soon, and I finished ordering wedding invites, info cards, and RSVP cards for the big day. I don’t plan to start sending anything out until the summer. But I like to be prepared. I’m trying to balance time between moving and wedding things. But I think I need to shift gears and concentrate on moving (whenever that will be!).

WHEN YOU DON’T KNOW HOW TO GOTH, JUST DRESS LIKE A BIRD

wp-1489590064382.jpg

Sorry, I’ve been lacking in the posts this week, it’s been a busy one! But more on that later. Anyway, on Friday I attempted a Goth Night at a local music venue. I mentioned in another post about how I don’t know how to goth. haha! The event is held about once a month. It was really fun. I didn’t really know what to wear (duh), so I ordered some things online. I only ended up using the feather shawl, the rest of my getup consisted of things I already owned. I actually have a matching feather skirt, so it went nicely with the shawl.

Anyway, I turned up a little later than I had wanted. Mostly because I was panicking at what to wear. My friend and I stopped for a drink beforehand as well. That and I was having technical difficulties with my temporary tattoos staying intact. I probably shouldn’t have put makeup on before adding the tattoos, as they didn’t stick very well over foundation. Oh well, lesson learned for next time.

It was a really fun night. There was good tunes, and people had some really fun outfits. My “IDK how to goth, so here I am as a bird” outfit was a hit.  My friends and I had a lot of fun. We stayed until close, and the snow didn’t let up. Thankfully we all got home safely in our Uber.

CHEESE AND BATTERIES?

giphy

Remember how Monday I was all, “I’m gloriously full of sleep?” Yeah, me either. Back to the being tired thing, I guess. It’s been a busy week. I’ve been trying to find a balance of going out, but also trying to purge my apartment. So that means sleep must be sacrificed. I already have plans for the next several nights, so doesn’t look like sleep is happening any time soon. Also, I basically have to dress like goth Thor on Friday night, depending on when my order arrives. That should be…interesting?

My friend invited me to a viking goth night. I get the goth night, but the viking element is odd. It’s like, oh let’s have a cheese and batteries party! I’ll be out of my element there, I like to wear color. So wearing all-black will be different for me. I’d label myself as a glitter-rainbow-goth. Is that a thing? It should be! The good news, I have loads of makeup options at home. Let’s just hope the rest of my stuff arrives on time. I think my outfit will be funny, because I can’t take anything seriously. This little lady can’t be a serious viking-goth.
