I got my professional pictures back from the wedding photographer last week. I got 2200+ photos back. I tried to make a smaller album on Google, but it is still a lot of pictures.  I was sick of looking at the pictures last week, since I spent too much time trying to edit down. Even on Facebook the album is large, despite getting it down to 350. We’ll call that a small achievement, haha.

I love how the pictures came out. I tried to just edit down the collages for this post. It’s still probably a lot, but I’m tired of editing down pictures, I need to get on booking my honeymoon!

Sneak peek of the professional photos. I can’t wait to see them all!

I got married eight days ago, and am finally getting around to writing about it. I didn’t really have time to take many pictures on my own phone, so I saved a bunch from wedding guests on Facebook. I made them into some collages. In case you couldn’t tell, it was a Star Wars theme. We had a lot of fun with it.

I experimented with a video collage, no idea how it’s going to translate into this blog post. I didn’t select music, so I also don’t know what the sound will be, so be warned! Anyway, I was a bit anxious the last week before the wedding. I didn’t sleep much the night before. But that was to be expected. Everything went really well! Our ceremony was short and sweet, and my brother was the officiant. He dressed as Obi Wan Kenobi. I did an R2D2 inspired hair style, I even dyed my purple hair streak to blue.

I felt like a pinball for most of the reception, just jumping around from thing to thing. I tried to enjoy as much as possible, I danced, ate, drank, used the photo booth, and had a great time. But man, the day did fly by! I did have to escape periodically for pictures, but that was to be expected. Andy hates pictures, so that wasn’t fun for him.

I am a little sad it’s over, but also relieved. I spent so much time planning, that it is nice to have spare time and income! I can’t wait for the professional photos, I’ll be sure to post my favorites later on. We aren’t going on a honeymoon until early next year. So we went to the Cape for a few days after the wedding. We were really fortunate to have awesome weather for the wedding and Cape. It’s was very warm for late September. But I can’t wait for the fall weather to kick in, I love boot season.

I just realized I collaged the same photo twice. Oh well!

I had a goal in mind for the weekend, it was to lock down a wedding dress. Not that I had been to a ton of bridal shops trying things on, but I had been deliberating options, and pinning dresses for months. So when I went to my second bridal appointment, I was hoping it would be one of the last appointments. As fun as dress shopping is, it can get stressful. Only because it’s a lot of pressure to find the right gown. The trouble is, I like a lot of dresses. So it was hard for me to say what I did/didn’t like about some of dresses over others. This made it a tad difficult to zero in what exactly I was looking for.

I had basic parameters. I liked a-line or ball gown, sparkle, and tulle. That lead to so many options! I was also trying to find something different, yet traditional at the same time. So I was scratching my head as to how I would be able to find anything like that?! I also made the mistake of going to look at dresses that were out of budget. I went to a trunk show for a designer I liked. They didn’t list prices on the gowns, so I guess I didn’t think about it too much.

I honestly was just going so I could poke around and see if they had this specific dress I was trying to track down from Fall 2012. Which they didn’t. Instead I tried on some dresses that were the overall silhouette I liked. I fell in love with this amazing glittery dress, and the finding out the price was like getting shot in the face. ROOKIE MOVE. How many times have I watched wedding dress reality shows?! It’s like the cardinal rule of dress shopping, don’t bother with things out of budget. But I did. So I was feeling discouraged with trying other places, because I wasn’t sure I’d find something I liked as much as the expensive glittery one.

I ended up at Vows over the weekend. It’s outlet bridal shop, that was on the defunct TLC show “I Found the Gown.” My consultant was great! She asked me what I did/didn’t like about certain gowns. Which was tricky, because I felt like I liked a lot of the dresses I tried, and it was difficult to pin point what exactly I didn’t like about them. But she did a great job, and pulled a dress none of us saw.

We missed it because we focused on looking at full skirt styles, prior to my appointment. So we forgot to check out the a-line section. Once I put it on, I knew it was dress for me. We all agreed, including my mom. My mom and I have drastically different tastes. The best part? It was very much under budget. I named my dress Hyperspace, as the design on it, reminds me of when a ship goes into hyperspace in Star Wars. So I thought that was appropriate. Now the title of this post, makes sense, huh?

I feel like the anti-bride. Not that I don’t want to get married. I could do without the planning part. I almost feel like I’m missing the gene for “extreme bridal enthusiasm since age five.” Surely I can’t be the only bride-to-be that actually doesn’t like wedding planning? I think it has to do with the fact I’m not really into cheesy romantic stuff. I also don’t care what kind of chairs are at the reception. Though, I will draw the line at 1970’s church basement folding chairs. One of my oldest friends (not in age, but in length of time known) got engaged a few months ago. She just got back from a trip overseas scouting wedding venues. She is just simply giddy with excitement and really wants to plan our weddings together. Together, like we’re still having separate weddings. I’m happy that she is getting married, and she seems to really enjoy the planning process.

But it only makes it more obvious to me, that I do not share the mythical wedding planning enthusiasm. Dude, I don’t even like weddings all that much. *audible gasp*  My ceremony is going to be short and sweet. I’d rather get to the fun part of my wedding. I want to have some drinks and dance with my friends + family!

Anyway I’ve got the big strokes done with my wedding. I have the date, venue, food, DJ, flowers, videographer, bridal party, and cake. Oh yeah, I recently asked my brother to be the officiant. He may or may not be using a Darth Vader voice changer. So that part is also done. Andy is working on the photographer part, because his friend is a photographer. But it makes me nervous he hasn’t firmed that up with him yet, apparently you are supposed to book the photographer the minute before you even get engaged. I’m already falling behind, haha.

The saving grace is dress shopping. One of my friends wanted me start that process over the summer, I thought it was too early. So I will likely start in January or February. I’m forcing myself to have a dress in place by mid-March. But I’m most not looking forward to the guest list. We each get 50 people. So I imagine there are going to be a lot of people mad at me. But I’m not having a 3000 people at my wedding so I “don’t offend anyone.” That is lunacy. People will just have to understand I’m having a fairly small wedding.
