WHERE A KID CAN BE A KID

Or an adult, who acts like a kid!

I celebrated my birthday a couple weeks early. It was mostly because I wanted to go to this hidden arcade, and wanted to slip in before the college kid apocalypse ensues. Nothing in the Boston-area can be enjoyed between  September-Mid December, and Mid January- end of May. It was still crowded at the arcade when we arrived, but it did thin out after a while. I enjoyed a two-person drink to myself, out a giant plastic R2D2 cookie jar. I think the bartender suspected I was the only one that was drinking from this thing, so I don’t think she put a lot of booze in my bucket. It was not fun to carry R2 around all night, but I made it work.

Some of the games were very confusing. I played an Aerosmith game where we had to shoot robots? You can also shoot CD’s at the enemy as well. It took us a good 15 minutes to beat the helicopter launching bad music at us (not Aerosmith, I love them!), but we prevailed. Frankly, I think Aerosmith should stick with pinball machines. This shooting game was best suited for AC/DC, in my opinion. They could have called it “Shoot to Thrill.” Then you could throw TNT at weird yellow robots. Any takers, Konami?

Once we ran out of tokens, we made our way to one of my favorite bars in the area. I got to find out “Mayflower” beat Ewan McGregor in the boxing match. I don’t know a damn thing about boxing, but I KNEW Mayweather would win. Why was that even debatable?! Overall, a very successful early birthday.

I SURVIVED THE BEERLYMPICS

I’m back from a very fun-filled fourth. We went up to our friends place in Maine. It’s right on the water, and quite gorgeous. There were well over 30 people joining in on the lakeside fun. So a tent city was born!

We had a lot of fun lounging in the lake, and drinking by the fire. Andy I bought some beach loungers for the water. I ended up only using his lounger. I guess I will save my stingray floaty for another time. We did a ton of things by the lake, but most notably was the Beerlympics.

I decided to be a spectator, because I hate chugging beer. Each event pretty much involved chugging 1-2 beers. I did chug 2 beers for Andy’s team. Spectators could chug beers to give points to another team. We each had a limit of 3, but I only gave 2. As I said, I’m no frat-boy, so chugging 2 beers was the best I could do. They made shirts to commemorate the event, I guess it’s been going on for 12 years now. Wow! I will cherish mine forever.

I found the small town very charming. The locals were very nice. We went out for ice cream, groceries, and donuts. I totally bought a flamingo egg at the grocery store. It’s a kids toy that you put in water. Eventually the egg will crack and a flamingo will grow. Stay tuned to see how long my flamingo takes to hatch.
