JUST CALL ME VIOLET

giphy

Over the weekend, we celebrated Andy’s birthday. We went to Abe & Louie’s, and had a great steak dinner. We went with Ginny, Derek, and Brian. We ordered a TON of sides, and they were all delicious. We had some calamari, lobster mac and cheese, mushrooms, creamed spinach, and their bread rolls. I opted to get the Delmonico cut steak with cheddar cheese add on. It was delicious! I usually get filet, but I wanted to branch out. I ate too much, and blew up like Violet Beauregarde. Thankfully, Ginny is a hero and carries pepto in her purse, it really made me feel better.

After dinner, we went to Bond for drinks. It was surprisingly quiet there. Last time we went was right after my friends wedding, and the place was hoppin’. We saw a lot of hookers at the bar. There were none around this time, bummer! It’s always good people-watching.

JUST WHAT DR. ME ORDERED!

I’m not a doctor, I just play one on TV. Never mind, I don’t even do that. Anyway, for the past couple of months, I’ve been extremely tired. I switched up my diet, because I definitely wasn’t eating enough healthy foods. I am also on week 4 or 5 of this new exercise program I started. But still, it didn’t help. I’m sure it doesn’t help that I haven’t been able to get as much sleep as I would like. I tried to go to bed earlier, when I could. That didn’t seem to shake me out of the tired-funk.

So now I’m getting a little annoyed at this nonsense. This weekend wasn’t quite as jam-packed as it usually is, so I was able to sleep in Saturday and Sunday. It was a Christmas miracle that I didn’t have to get up early to do some kind of bullshit activity. Let me tell you, it was glorious! It’s Monday and I don’t feel like Zombie Flanders, so I’m a happy camper. I still had time to have fun this weekend, and do some painting at my condo. So I wasn’t a complete waste of sleepy space! I need to do this “sleeping in” thing more often.

I GUESS I’LL JUST PEE AT HOME THEN…

After dress shopping this weekend, I went out for a friends birthday in Cambridge. We started off with dinner and drinks at The Beat Brasserie inside The Beat Hotel. We all got the steak, not the same steak, we each had our very own! We listened to some live jazz, and enjoyed the atmosphere.

After dinner, we met up with more people at Charlie’s Kitchen. We opted to drink on the patio, since it was warm for a winter night in New England. I was quite tired. I haven’t been sleeping well for a couple of weeks for some reason and it was catching up with me. So I was a little out of it. When the time came to use the bathroom, I tried to use the one in the patio, but it was locked.  There wasn’t anyone in it, it was just simply locked. I didn’t realize that at the time, just thought someone was taking forever in there.

So I went upstairs to go inside the restaurant.  I have never been in the restaurant before. I almost walked into the men’s room by mistake, because I thought it was a single stall unisex bathroom, like the one outside. Nope. At this point, I gave up, and made my way back outside. I figured the unisex stall would be open by then.  Again, nope.

So I adnitted defeat and went home to pee in my own darn bathroom. I should note, I didn’t go home just to pee. I was actually planning to leave, and thought I should use the facilities before getting an Uber. Haha!

BLUE MONDAY

wp-1479130059698.jpg

Last week was a struggle, I don’t think it will necessarily get easier, due to REASONS. But I met up with some friends for drinks one night, we needed to get out of the house. I haven’t been to Harry’s in a while, and I really need to go more often. It’s a much better crowd than the watering hole I usually occupy.

Over the weekend, I finally got to see Erin. She gave me my Christmas gift early, it is awesome! It’s a really pretty sequin leopard print Gretchen Christine bag. We both love the Real Housewives, so I’m excited to have a RHOC bag. We decided to give Wahlburgers another try. We went to the original one in Hingham, MA and were not impressed AT ALL (read: we were served warm milk shakes). We actually ended up eating at Alma Nove, and the food was EXCELLENT. So if you’re in that area, go to Alma’s instead.

But they opened a Wahlburgers much closer to civilization. So we decided to try the new location. I’m glad we did, we both got the BBQ bacon burger (Donnie’s favorite) and it was really good. I will definitely go back again! We also did some shopping at Marshalls and the mall in the Pru. We ended up seeing The Accountant movie. It was okay, the beginning is very slow. I liked the ending though. But not sure I will opt to see it again when it’s on TV.

HELLO, BLOG!

A lot has happened the past couple of weeks, and I forgot to blog. Now I don’t know where to begin? I guess we can start with some important news. I set my wedding date and venue. After scouting a bunch of places online for their packages, meal options, and price point, we went with the second place we actually visited. It’s a local hotel that offers some really good deals, that are a good value (as far as weddings go). I’m very happy to have the venue, food, date, DJ, flowers, and cake figured out. It’s all included with the package. That takes most of the major things off the list. I probably won’t do much else in the area of wedding planning for the rest of this year.

Anyway, is it sad that I’m still tired from the weekend? On Thursday we went out for dinner and drinks. The pretzels in the picture were sooo good. I just love soft pretzels. I also recall catching a lot of Pokemon in the restaurant parking lot, haha.

Did I mention it’s been INSANELY hot in Boston for a couple of weeks now? Well Friday was certainly no exception. I met up with some friends at the bar. I decided to walk, thinking it would be cooler out. It wasn’t, dear diary. It was not cooler AT ALL. It was so stinking humid. I thought once I got to the bar, it  would be nice and cool. NOPE.

Turns out, they have the suckiest air conditioning ever. Or maybe it wasn’t working? I honestly don’t remember. I just remember it being really fucking hot, to the point where I went outside every time one of my friends wanted a cigarette just to cool down. I did get a Coronarita, that helped. But the bar refused to open the windows, despite it being cooler outdoors. It was supposed to rain, but it never happened so that’s why they didn’t want to open the windows at first. After the bar, we went to a friends house to enjoy her porch. But I didn’t get to stay long. I had to go to a party down the street, which we could hear from the porch. The party was fun, but it was just too darn hot at their new place. There was typical stuff like beer pong and flip cup.

So Saturday I had (yet another) party to attend. It was for a friends birthday, he has it every year in his back yard. At least on Saturday it wasn’t really humid. So hanging outside was fine. I was even able to find some Harpoon Camp Wannamango at the liquor store. I took their last 12 pack, yippie!

OMG, this is like the blog post that never ends. Sorry, I’m almost done. On Sunday, Andy and I went to a show. We pretty much go every year, the line up was pretty good for Summerland 2016. We saw Sponge, Lit, Sugar Ray, and Everclear. This time only Sponge came out to sign autographs and take pictures. I’ve met Sponge a few times already, they are very nice to their fans. I might edit this post later and drum up some of the pictures I took with Vinnie (the lead singer) from Sponge. In previous years, I met Eve 6, Filter, and Alien Ant Farm as well. The show was very good. Hell, even Mark McGrath made fun of himself for still having highlights. Gotta love the 90s’, amirite? Oh yes, there were lots of people wearing hemp necklaces, bucket hats, and sporting mushroom cuts. It was quite the sight!

STEAKATION

wp-1463423384108.jpg

Got a lot of compliments on my “Space Jam” dress

For someone that doesn’t gamble, I sure go to casinos fairly often! I did a lot this past weekend, so I’m going to break into two posts. On Saturday we went to my niece’s communion party, it was nice to see everyone! I tried not to eat too much, as I needed to save my appetite for STEAK that night. After the party, Andy and I headed to Mohegan Sun for his birthday weekend. Our hotel wasn’t far from Mohegan, so we checked in, freshened up, and went on our way to the casino. We were so excited to each at Michael Jordan’s Steakhouse, and it did not disappoint. The steak and sides were excellent. I got the filet mignon. I always get it when trying a new steakhouse, I use it as my standard which to judge my steak by. I concluded that MJ’s knocked Capital Grill from it’s #3 spot for favorite steaks. I’m happy we got to go, now we’re planning our next steakhouse trip. We have a running list!

Andy wasn’t too thrilled I stole a picture of him, haha

After dinner and drinks, we wandered around the casino. I also am guilty of doing a bit of shopping. We even bought really good cupcakes from Carlo’s Bakery! I guess I never realized how many good food options there are in Mohegan Sun. The couple of other times I’ve gone, I only went for shopping. Now I will be trying more places to eat there!

GAMBLING WOULD HAVE BEEN CHEAPER

wp-1461712780027.jpg

Erin and I took (what is becoming) an annual trip to Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun casinos. On the way to Foxwoods, we went to Mystic. We both bought these really cute Helly Hansen anchor print raincoats. Now I’ll look forward to the rain, so I can wear my awesome new raincoat. I love the shops in Mystic, especially all the jewelry I can’t afford. But thankfully, we could afford some really good pizza. We went to Mystic Pizza again. At least this time, I finally watched the movie.

After pizza, we spent some time at Mohegan Sun. I bought some stuff from Lush, because I’m addicted to that store. I’m going back there in a few weeks for Andy’s birthday. Hopefully I can stay out of Lush, but I doubt it. Haha! After that, we went to Foxwoods so we could check out the new outlet mall they added. It is actually a pretty large outlet mall, with tons of good stores. I may have purchased some more Coach bags…OOPS! I think it would have been cheaper to have a gambling addiction, as opposed to outlet shopping. Oh well, maybe someday I will learn my lesson.

wp-1461712779982.jpg

It was finally time to check into our hotel by the time we left Foxwoods, intending to finish the outlets later. So we loaded up on some snacks and waters, and checked into the hotel. The hotel itself was fine, but we had a lot of issues with the shuttle service to the casino. We got the shuttle on time, but they held it for a party of 37 females, each wearing excessive amounts of various perfumes. The shuttle smelled like someone dropped a nuclear bomb inside a Perfumania. Since we weren’t already irritated over having to hold the shuttle for these ladies, one of them forgot their ID. So the shuttle had to turn around.

Thankfully we weren’t that far, BUT STILL. We had to crack a window, so I wouldn’t be the first person to get high on perfume. Once we finally arrived at the casino, the ladies realized the shuttle drop off location is at the opposite end of the casino, from their dinner res. One of the girls said they should have taken an Uber. I said, “YES, YOU SHOULD HAVE!” Since we arrived later than intended, the wait for a table at Hard Rock was an hour. We put our names in, and decided to finish checking out the outlets, we ran out of steam in the afternoon and didn’t finish the rest of the shops.  Once our table was ready, we ordered some delicious drinks and food. We enjoyed the rest of our evening. Minus the shuttle driver arriving 40 minutes late picking people up. Don’t worry, we complained about that, and the rude girl at the front desk. Thankfully the GM of the hotel was very pleasant to deal with, when we called to complain about the situation.

We decided to sleep in the next day, our feet were killing us from all the walking. But we did manage to get ourselves some PANCAKES. All is good with the world!
