I had a low-key(ish) weekend. I took Friday off because my husband was having some minor surgery. The surgery went well and he came home on Saturday morning. He didn’t want to stay in the hospital overnight, but the doctor wanted to be sure he was all clear. Unfortunately, he hasn’t been sleeping well because of the discomfort, but he’s getting better each day. Aside from that, I did go out for a nice dinner over the weekend. I have the leftovers in the fridge!
On Sunday night, I went to a pop-up oyster party with some friends. It was so fun! The party was Mad Men themed. I managed to pull together an outfit with things I already had. The parties are always at a “secret” location, apparently. This was my first one. It was sponsored by Bombay Sapphire, so the only drinks served were gin-based.
There was all kinds of flora and fauna in my gin and tonic.
At first I was hesitant about that. But out of 4 different gin drinks, there was only one I didn’t like. I’d say those are great odds. I also decided raw oysters aren’t so bad? Normally I only eat broiled oysters, but for the sake of the party, I tried a few raw ones. Plus I figured if I get a tape worm, that would be a great diet to follow for my upcoming honeymoon. Har har.
The party was at an old candle pin bowling alley. They had popup bars set up on each floor. The first floor had the oyster bar, and the second floor boasted a caviar bar complete with donuts and mini pancakes! There was also a DJ and the lanes were all open for party-goers to use. We played a string. I did bad, but I’m also not great at candle pin in general. Well, I’m also not great at regular 10 pin either, but I can somehow at least land a strike or two. After the party, we grabbed some burgers and made our way home.

Trunk Club, the box looks like luggage!
This post is long overdue! I’ve been too busy to blog as of late. In lieu of either getting a Wantable shipment or a StitchFix, I wanted to try Trunk Club. It’s available for women now. If you want to try, please use my referral link! Trunk Club is owned by Nordstrom, so you’re already getting some good brands and quality. the prices are around $45-$100 per piece. You also get ten pieces to try and/or buy instead of five.
I told my stylist what I was looking for and price ranges. She listened to my requests for some cropped pants and off-shoulder tops. Some of the items were a little over my budget I gave, but I didn’t mind it . They also show you what you are getting, so you have the option of swapping things out before they ship. The styling fee runs $25, instead of $20. But you get the styling fee back as a credit, if you end up keeping any of the pieces. You do not get an additional discount if you end up keeping all 10 items.
I ended up keeping the black dress, black crop pants, denim crop pants, and the gray convertible sweater. I was going to keep the black off-shoulder top, but I didn’t feel like spending $70 on it. Didn’t like it that much, haha! I liked the cut of the flower dress, but not a huge fan of the print. I also would have kept the white top, but the sleeves made me feel like a pirate. Andy offered to pay for that one, just so he could get me an eye-patch and call me Pirate Pete. I didn’t keep the gray tunic, it looked cute on the site, but I ended up looking like a cult-leader. haha! I also didn’t keep the floral top, I just didn’t like that it was cropped. I wanted to keep the salmon crop pants, but they were too big. My absolute favorite items are the jeans and the gray sweater. I wish I could wear them everyday!
My friend and I got to do something really exciting this week! We got to meet the queen of bling herself, Sondra! She is the genius behind all the gypsy gowns on a hit TLC reality show. My BFF and I watch all the time and dish about it. She is actually a local person and her studio is about 15 minutes from my apartment. So we are commissioning her to make a really fun (and of course BLINGY!) belt for my wedding dress. I can’t wait to see it!
My friend and I were so happy to meet her. Her studio is amazing, not one surface left un-sparkled. Heck, even the address plate on her building is straight blingin’. She is also really nice. She spent some time in her busy day to talk with us and take a picture in front of her pink creation. I hope to see this dress on a gypsy bride soon!
I can’t wait to go back and see what my belt looks like, I’m hoping I can use it for something after my wedding too as I’m sure I’ll want to wear it again. Anyway, my veil should be arriving soon, and I finished ordering wedding invites, info cards, and RSVP cards for the big day. I don’t plan to start sending anything out until the summer. But I like to be prepared. I’m trying to balance time between moving and wedding things. But I think I need to shift gears and concentrate on moving (whenever that will be!).

Sorry, I’ve been lacking in the posts this week, it’s been a busy one! But more on that later. Anyway, on Friday I attempted a Goth Night at a local music venue. I mentioned in another post about how I don’t know how to goth. haha! The event is held about once a month. It was really fun. I didn’t really know what to wear (duh), so I ordered some things online. I only ended up using the feather shawl, the rest of my getup consisted of things I already owned. I actually have a matching feather skirt, so it went nicely with the shawl.
Anyway, I turned up a little later than I had wanted. Mostly because I was panicking at what to wear. My friend and I stopped for a drink beforehand as well. That and I was having technical difficulties with my temporary tattoos staying intact. I probably shouldn’t have put makeup on before adding the tattoos, as they didn’t stick very well over foundation. Oh well, lesson learned for next time.
It was a really fun night. There was good tunes, and people had some really fun outfits. My “IDK how to goth, so here I am as a bird” outfit was a hit. My friends and I had a lot of fun. We stayed until close, and the snow didn’t let up. Thankfully we all got home safely in our Uber.

I always said when I get married, I wouldn’t do a veil. I just find them to be an expensive piece of tulle I could hack together myself with a $3.99 trip to a craft store. But I guess it depends on the dress too. A lot of the wedding dresses I tried on and liked, didn’t look good with a veil. But the dress I ended up with, does. So here I am, spending a lot of money on a veil, like I said I would never do.
I guess I can justify the purchase because my dress was a real bargain. Also, it’s being handmade from a small business. So at least I can say I’m supporting a small business. Also, my veil is freaking awesome. The seller sent me pictures this morning, it will be shipped out soon. I can’t wait! It will really fit the wedding theme well. Also, I have an exciting appointment next week, that I’ll talk about later with a famous bling queen. She is going to make a belt for my dress that will outta this world. I just wish these were things I could wear again, just feels like a waste. But I guess that is what weddings are, a money pit. Albeit, a fun one at least.
I had a satisfactory weekend. On Saturday, I stayed over my friends place so we could go to the Goblin Ball. It was a pretty cool event, we went with a bunch of friends. It was held in an armory museum that looks like a castle inside. Very appropriate. I got this really cool galaxy dress for the occasion. It sheds glitter everywhere though, and I don’t know when I’d wear it again. But it was worth it. I ordered a headpiece online, and I was nervous I wouldn’t get it on time. The snow last week didn’t help. But it got delivered at noon on Saturday. I plan to use the headpiece again, so it was a worthwhile investment.
Everyone did a fab job with their costumes. One of our friends won a costume contest. I’m sad we missed it, but it happened while we were in line to pick up our pictures. I think next time I’ll skip the pictures, we wasted valuable dance time!
It was a really fun event. I’d go again next year, if it’s an annual thing. I just hope they move it to the spring next time. Getting dressed up in gown with a long train is not ideal in the winter. I’m already thinking of ideas for next time, haha.
It snowed again yesterday into today. I ended up having to shovel this afternoon. I managed to shave 30 minutes off my Olympic speed shoveling record. But man, did I work up more of a sweat! At least I’m feeling better, I was sick earlier today. No fun!

I just realized I forgot to post my fabulous outfit from the weekend. I got it a while back, and totally forgot about it. I actually got it in the wrong size. The reviews said the skirt runs small, so I should have gone up a size. No matter, it’s nothing that an opaque pair of tights or leggings can’t solve. So I finally wore my fabulous feather skirt to my friends birthday party. It was a fun time. My gift of a glowing cat lamp, and a book titled “How to Talk to Your Cat About Gun Safety” were big hits. But Andy stole my gift idea, and shipped a copy of the book to his friend too. His friend got a kick out of it.
We all enjoyed a yummy dinner at Golden Temple. Then we made our way to the Mos Eisley cantina (that’s what I call it anyway). It’s the bar area with a dance floor. The DJ was a friend of one of the party-goers so he played all our requests, which was good. The kitty lamp also made an appearance on the dance floor. The moral of this blog post is to not wear a feather skirt to a bar. People will pat your bottom! 😉
