READY RED ONE!

I was an X-wing for Halloween

Happy Halloween, everyone! It’s my favorite holiday. Since I’ve moved back to where I don’t have to deal with annoying college kids and have wonderful things like ample parking, this means we’ll actually have trick or treaters. Not sure how to deal with it though, as my dog loses his mind every time the doorbell rings. We plan to go out for dinner and drinks tonight, so we could just hold him back when the doorbell rings until we head out for the night. But I don’t know if I want to deal with it. It’s easier just to eat the bags of candy ourselves, haha.

Anyway, I went to another Halloween party over the weekend. Fiona always does an A+ job with the decorations, this year was no exception. Andy made me into an X-Wing from Star Wars. I went with Red One so I could dress as R2D2, of course! The party was zombie-themed and my friend Emily did an awesome job with gory makeup. I’m sure her face is probably still stained red though. I had a hard time navigating the asteroid belt (party goers) in my giant costume. So I had to stay put for a couple hours until I took the X-Wing part off. I felt like Jabba the Hutt sitting around taking up 2 chairs in my giant costume. Maybe I could be Jabba next year? haha!

GFY AMAZON SELLERS OF SAILOR PLUTO PROPS!

I’m finally getting around to posting about a Halloween party I went to on Saturday night. It was with a bunch of friends. I dressed as Sailor Pluto. I picked her because she has this cool staff, despite not knowing much about her character. I haven’t watched the old Sailor Moon anime series since I was a kid, but I am not sure if Sailor Pluto is really in many episodes of the newer Sailor Moon Crystal series. I’ve only watched a few episodes of it so far.

Anyway, the costume itself was a little pricey. It was also extremely short, barely covers “me arse” so I rocked a petticoat with it. I still loved the costume though, it was a hit, especially at the bar after. I was dared to order a drink with my staff. It took a several attempts, but I completed the task and got a free beer out of some 23 year-old kid hanging around us.  I guess that is what happens when you pick a lesser-known character from the series. But I wasn’t anticipating the staff she uses only be sold for over $100 on Amazon. To that I say, GO FUCK YOURSELF GREEDY SELLERS! Know what I did instead? Purchased a clearance section Queen of Hearts staff, some spray paint, and foam heart online. Andy painted it and remodeled the top of the staff for me. PLUS it lights up, which the ones on Amazon don’t do. Turns out, Sailor Pluto is a pretty cool sailor scout. She is the guardian of space and time, and also darkness. BADASS! Apparently she can also stop time, which is pretty amazing. I didn’t have a chance to test out this superpower.

The party was fun. We had not one, but TWO cereal killers! We also had Mrs. Doubtfire, Voodoo Doll, Little Red Riding Hood,  some Ricks (Rick & Morty),  and my sailor scout friends (including a clever Sailor Goth!), and other cool costumes. We did some dancing, and watched movies, all while being stalked by the kitty that wouldn’t let us pet her. Naughty Babette! Around midnight, we walked in a weirdo-parade to the bar to show off our costumes. I’m sure we were quite the vision.

A BEWITCHING TIME!

20171008051725.JPG

I always buy tiny hats, so I picked up a couple in Salem!

Erin and I decided last month that we should figure out a time to go to Salem. I haven’t been in years, and she hasn’t gone EVER! So we got there a bit early, traffic was terrible trying to get to the parking garage. It was also raining while we were trying to find our sci-fi themed pizza place we scoped out a few weeks back. The pizza was decent. Thankfully it stopped raining by the time we got out of lunch. Also, it didn’t rain for the rest of the day, hooray!

After the pizza, we made our way to the Peabody-Essex museum to check out the “It’s Alive!” exhibit, it was awesome! I may have had a tad too much fun using Snapchat filters on the scary faces.

After the museum, we visited the House of Seven Gables. It was very interesting! We visited the house and Nathaniel Hawthorne’s childhood home. It was also very crowded, but we managed to get ourselves onto a tour of the home. Basically everyone visits Salem in October, so crowds were to be expected. I think we lucked out going on a Sunday though.

After the museum, we did some shopping. We also stopped by the Salem Witch Trials museum to nab a time slot for later on that day. It’s good that we did, as the museum sold out later that day. We had dinner at Bonchon, and got ourselves some fried dough for dessert. I also may have purchased two tiny witch hats. The one in the picture is larger, the other is only 3″ tall. So cute!

The Witch Trials museum is the same from what I remembered. I haven’t been there since our 7th grade trip to Salem, haha. All in all, a very fun day! I can’t wait to go back next year.

LET’S SKATE?

20171012_090441.jpg

So for the first time since 1997, my friend Jamie and I went rollerskating over the long weekend. We were definitely the oldest people there without kids, at the skating rink. That didn’t stop us! Neither of us fell, which was awesome. I actually was able to skate, I remembered it quite quickly. I don’t think I would have been as successful if I had attempted roller blades instead. After skating, we went to a cute shop where I got a couple pairs of sunglasses and some jewelry.

After burning calories gliding around on skates, we had a delicious meal. It was at a flatbread pizza place. We had to wait for a table, as it was a happening spot. The food was really good, so I understand why there was a wait. I felt bad though, I barely made a dent in my giant hunks of fried chicken and I couldn’t take it home with me since we were heading out for drinks after dinner.

After dinner, we went out for nitrogen ice cream. It was delicious! I got the cake batter flavor. As if the ice cream place wasn’t awesome enough, they have a speakeasy in the back!!

I did the honor of turning on the light, for delight! A window swung open, and we were greeted with a bartender. He checked our ID’s, and showed us to an empty spot at the bar. It’s not a place where you can just stand around, you have to have a seat. It was very cool! I think next time we’ll eat there instead of the pizza place, so we can sample their cheese platters and such.

To complete our adventure, we went to a brewery. I actually really liked it. Unlike tons of other breweries out there, the beer wasn’t hoppy (unless you selected the beer in the “Hoppy” section). I was very happy with our brews. We listened to some live music before closing our adventure.

SUMMONED BY THE GOBLIN KING

20170823_084015

My dress barely fit in the car!

Over the weekend I went to another Goblin Ball, this one was the light fairy kingdom vs dark fairy. It is based of the movie, The Labyrinth. It was fun! Though, not sure if I’d go to another. I feel like two is probably enough, especially when you have to find a ball gown. But who knows, I may change my mind. Anyway, the event was held in the same armory museum, which is really a great setting for it. It pretty much went the same as last time, except they much improved the professional photo system. So we didn’t have to stand in line for days. We got ready at Erin’s place, then headed to our friend Emily’s house to meet up with everyone.

20170823_084205

The costumes were really cool! I’m not really sure what I was dressed as. We’ll go with Cotton Candy Queen. As my giant-ass dress looked like cotton candy. It actually wasn’t that expensive. It was cheaper than renting a dress. I may cut some layers off and use it for 80s prom. I’ll “Pretty in Pink” it, except this dress hopefully won’t end up looking hideous.

20170823_084503

My only complaint was my shoes and some of the music selections. They played too much slow waltzing music. I came to jam out, not to be bored by waltz music! I should have worn flip flops. My feet were still pretty jacked up from Comic Con. So the shoes I wore were hurting me by nights end.  I stayed over at Erin’s that night. We got up the next day for pancakes, and did some shopping.

PSA, for those people getting married that want to use the Bridal Buddy, I’d say don’t waste your money. I brought mine to test out for my wedding, and it wouldn’t even fit my ball gown. So I couldn’t use it. I actually had no issue using the bathroom in my giant dress. It was just a slow process, as I had to gather up all the damn layers of my dress. But it made me confident that I can successfully pee on my own at my wedding…WHICH IS IN 30 DAYS. Yikes. I mean, I’m excited, but also nervous.

NO SLEEP TILL…?

20170801_162345

So to make an update on my post about the new glasses I bought in May, the company did let me exchange them for a new pair! I made sure to pick out a pair from the site that didn’t have metal along the temple tip. It’s hard to tell from the picture, but they are blue. I really like them! They sent me a return label for the old pair and I sent them back this week. Phew, now I can wear my new glasses.

It’s now Thursday and I’m starting to feel more normal. It’s pretty sad that it took me 4 days to recover from my bachelorette weekend. But I guess that means I had a really good time! My issue was more related to lack of sleep. I went to bed kinda late and it took me a couple hours to fall asleep each night. I tried (and failed) to go to bed a little earlier this week to re-coup. But at least I’m starting to feel human again.

This weekend will be the same issue, I don’t have time to sleep. I have relatives visiting from Michigan. Saturday I have an early morning appointment with the florist for the wedding. in the afternoon I have my hair and makeup trials. After that, my friends have a night in the town planned.

On Sunday, I am getting up early again for my friends bachelorette party at a spa and pool. I can’t stay the whole time, because I have dinner plans with the visiting relatives. The following weekend will be busy with Comic Con. I’ll sleep when I’m dead, I suppose!

IT’S LIKE WEEKEND AT BERNIE’S, BUT WITH ACTUAL BEARS

20170801_074027

We encountered a real bear on Saturday morning, as he ran into the woods!

This post is about my awesome bachelorette party weekend. There were tons of penis decorations, which I was fine with. I just didn’t want a REAL stripper, and thankfully there wasn’t one! The house we rented in the White Mountains of New Hampshire was awesome! It has 5 bedrooms and fire pit area outside. We did a lot of fun things. One of my favorites was decorating our sashes for a night in the town.

20170801_073927

We spent the first day by the pool and did some light shopping. After I got back, my friends decorated the house and it looked awesome! We stayed by the fire that night, and we named our inflatable man Bernie. Thus began weekend at Bernie’s!

20170801_073817

On Saturday, we were supposed to go do the ropes course and zip-lining. But a lot of us were feeling a bit under the weather, so we decorated our sashes and decided to the sky gondola ride at the ski resort. The ride involved getting into these pods that brought us up the mountain. Once we got to the top, there were a bunch of things to check out. Apparently there was a wedding happening at the ampitheater area, which looked seriously awesome! The only draw back to getting married up there, is your guests would need to take a 15 minute gondola ride up each way. My relatives would freak out. Anyway, the only thing I didn’t like was the caves. They looked more like rock formations, not caves. Also, too many freaking stairs. No thanks!

20170801_074244

That night, we went out to dinner and annoyed the guests at a local Mexican restaurant. We got all decked out in our bachelorette swag and hit the mountain town. We brought Bernie along to the restaurant. He was a hoot! A kid at a neighboring table was fascinated with Bern-Man, they were the same height. When we told his parents his name is Bernie, they definitely picked up on the movie reference. SCORE!

20170801_074337

After scaring away all the patrons at the restaurant, we went to a brewery/inn/bar. It was a happening place with an 80s cover band and good brews. I made some friends, and I may need a restraining order from this woman that was fine at first, but then wouldn’t leave me alone. But that’s a tale for another time. It was such a great weekend, and I love my friends for making this the best weekend ever. Now I’m aboard the struggle bus from being tired.
