I just realized I haven’t done a beauty review in FOREVER. So I thought I’d select one of my recent Sephora hauls to discuss. I already bought some Fenty Beauty pieces before, so I knew I liked the quality (I’m kinda fighting with the highlighters, but we’re working things out). So I thought I’d check out the limited edition holiday 2017 collection. I’m so glad I did!

I tend to panic-purchase when things are “limited edition” and “limited quantity.” So it’s no surprise I opted to try a few things from the collection. I had to get the Galaxy Eyeshadow Palette ($59). I haven’t fully played around with it, but using a “glitter glue” eyeshadow primer is recommended. I personally use the Too Faced Shadow Insurance Glitter Glue. I believe ELF and NYX make a more affordable version, but I haven’t tried them. I really hate spending more than $40-$50 on an eyeshadow palette, but it got good reviews. The colors are so pretty in person, the pictures from my phone do this zero justice. They are so much more vibrant in person! I will post pictures of an eye look when I have a chance, I will probably use it for Halloween.

In addition to the eyeshadow, I picked up all three colors of the 2-in-1 Glitter Release eyeliner. I thought the “Nepturnt” and “Alien Bae” colors looked very similar when I first swatched them. But when they are dry, you rub them to reveal the glitter. Once I did that, you can see the colors are different. Not sure I will use “Later, Crater” as an eyeliner, as I don’t like using light colors as eyeliner. But it is so pretty, I will try it out as an eyeshadow on the inner corners.

I came across this wonderful photo of myself, and started laughing. It got me thinking about a time I got my make up done. As much as I love cosmetics, I always opt to do my own makeup. But I decided to have a “treat yo self” moment, and got it done while on vacation. This was a mistake, I wish I had saved my money!

I got it done because I was in Vegas, and we had a party that night. I wanted to look good, and always wanted try it. I guess my mistake was having this done in Vegas. I think when you get your makeup done in Vegas, they will typically go heavy, instead of just regular glam. I didn’t know that I had to specify not to go too heavy with it, but I didn’t. At the end of it, I felt like Denis O’Hare as Liz Taylor. Except Denis O’Hare pulled that look off 100x better than I ever could.

So, what did I do? I pretended for the makeup artists sake that I loved it. But in actuality, I had to stifle a gasp. I looked like a child prostitute! Maybe this look would have been fine on another person, but it didn’t look good on me.

The moment I left, I was wandering the halls of my hotel with my sunglasses on. Thankfully nobody questions you about wearing sunglasses indoors in Vegas. People just assume you’re hung over, or drunk. I quickly walked back to my room to do damage control. I ripped off the fake lashes, threw on mascara instead. Used my supply of Q-Tips to thin the eyeliner, and touched up the parts I took off. I didn’t let anyone see me with my full-makeup look before I had to fix it, by taking most of it off. I mean, maybe I didn’t actually look as garish as I thought. It could just be I wasn’t used to seeing myself with quite this much on. I’m by no means a stranger to makeup (HELLO, COME SEE MY EYE SHADOW STASH. IT’S NUTS!). But I try not to go crazy with it, unless it’s Halloween. Next time, I will be blatant tell the make up artist not to use excessive liner and shadow on me. YIKES

I was lucky enough to work from home yesterday so I didn’t have to deal with Labor Day/early moving day for college kids. I’m sad summer is almost over and all the college jerks are coming back. But I have a great Labor Day weekend/week planned and I can’t wait! Andy and I had to return the cats to his parents. They (unfortunately) didn’t catch any mice. But while we were trying to wrangle them into cat carriers, Reese’s scratched up my wrist. It makes me look suicidal, so I put some Neosporin on it and added a Cynthia Rowley band aid for good measure.

Anyway, I was excited that my Sephora order came in! I got the new Chroma Color Eye Palette and Kat Von D Studded Kiss lipstick in Vampira. I guess you have to be a VIB member to get early access to the Chroma palette, so you can check out the product details page for now. I love the palette so far, so many shadows and eyeliners to pick!

I like the lipstick, but I find that I need to exfoliate my lips and use lip balm before applying it. Otherwise the color comes out really uneven. It’s a bit darker than the picture shows. So it’s more of a fall/winter type of color but I like it!

My cat shoes came in and I’m so excited! I bought a gray glitter pair about a year ago and decided to add a black pair to boot! MEOW!

REVIEW: MAKE UP BY ONE DIRECTION! #makeupby1D, #thelookscollection, #markwins

Thanks to Brandbacker, I was selected to try Make Up by One Direction (http://www.facebook.com/MakeupbyOneDirection)! I got my 7-piece collectible make up tin in “Up All Night” and tried it last night. Despite the fact I’m almost 30, I honestly really liked this kit. The lipstick is called “I Should Have Kissed You” and it’s now my favorite! It’s a mauve/pink shade and it goes well with my skin tone. The mascara is called “Little Black Dress” and definitely lengthens and has decent staying power. The kit provides instructions for three eye shadow looks to try. There are also stencils, an eyeliner/body pen (color is Stand Up), lip gloss (color called Taken), nail color (I got a teal color called Na Na Na), and a 5-color eye shadow palette in the kit. I was impressed with the collection over all. It was easy to try the eye shadow looks and gotta love the guys on the collectible tin.

I tried the lip gloss in “Taken”, which is a glittery hot pink. The kit comes with cute stencils too!

I think my swatches came out better than Nialls!

As I mentioned before in my One Direction giveaway post, the Looks Collection consists of three limited edition keepsake tins inspired by One Direction’s albums. The albums are, “Up All Night, “Take Me Home”, and “Midnight Memories”. The line is being released this month in the US at various retailers. The retailers include, Macy’s (August 11th), Stage Stores (August 25th), Dillards (August 25th), Beauty Brands (August 25th), and Lord and Taylor (August 25th). Be sure to check them out for yourself! Honestly, I’m kinda tempted to check out Macys’ for the other two collections. I included the info on the other collections below:

20140311_165137The Julep Maven secret store opened and lacking any form of self-control, I ordered the Blank Canvas Trio. The trio includes Mattifying Face Primer,  Plumping Lip Primer, and a Mattifying Eye Primer. Oh yeah, I tossed in a glitter nail color called Mila, because NAIL POLISH!

I’m excited to try the face primer since my skin is oily like a 17-year-old fry cook. I’m curious to see if it will help during the day with keeping less of an oily sheen on my face (yuck). Here are the details:

Features & Benefits:

  • Absorbs shine, brightens skin, and locks in moisture for 24 hours
  • Reduces the appearance of wrinkles and pores
  • Fortified with 18 plant extracts

I love, love, and love the lip plumper! The applicator is a bit tricky though, I had to click the bottom for a few minutes to get any of the lip plumper out. I think I went a little too far, because it continued to slowly ooze out like molasses after I used some. Word of caution, don’t be crazy with the clicker. I like the hue as well, it’s almost nude (oh-la-la).  Here are some more details from the Julep site:

A multi-tasking marvel that plumps, moisturizes, and preps lips for flawless color application. The tingle tells you it’s working. The ongoing hydration and smoothing tell you it’s still working.

This pale pink primer works well on its own, too.

I’m always up for trying a new eyeshadow primer. It’s mattifying and anti-aging, and I’ve never owned an anti-aging eye lid primer before. So, this will be interesting…I’ll be sure to test this one out over the weekend. But here is some info:

Features & Benefits:

  • Extends wear of eye shadow, liner, and concealer
  • Prevents creasing and evens color appearance
  • Mattifies oily eyelids
  • Smooths and brightens areas around eye, diminishing appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Easily blends into all skin types and skin shades
  • Spatula-shaped applicator delivers easy, crease-proof coverage.

As always, whenever I get around to using all this, I’ll be sure edit this post with my finding.

Happy Presidents Day, I hope you have the day off like me!

Lord knows the last thing in the world I need is more lip colors, but I was tempted to try MAC Russian Red. I was too lazy to visit a makeup counter to try the color before plucking down $16 for it so I did the next best thing. I searched the interwebz for a drugstore dupe. In my search, I found Revlon Matte Lipstick in Really Red. Since there was a buy one get one 1/2 off deal, I added Nude Attitude color to my cart as well.

I was hesitant to try the MAC color because sometimes red tends to make me look like a child prostitute. This is why I generally stick with pink shades. Thankfully this color actually looks good! It seems to have pretty good staying power, but I didn’t test it while eating and drinking. It’s sort of okay in keeping your lips moisturized, but it will start to dry out after a while. I’m currently trying Nude Attitude and not sure if nude color lipstick is for me. I feel like I don’t have lips! Thankfully since I’m an Avon rep, I’m going to order some bullet samples of other nude colors to try before I buy any more.

I gotta admit, I was bit disappointed in my Birch Box this month. I’ve decided to stop my subscription and just stick with Julep Maven and Ipsy for monthly boxes for now. I will keep my eyes open for other monthly boxes to try. This month I got a Birch Box phone screen cleaner, dry shampoo, skin transformer, incredi-peel sample, body butter, and a lip crayon. I really like the Camille Beckman body butter! It’s a nice luxurious cream that absorbs quickly. I also tried the LAQA & Co Lil’ Lip crayon, it went on bold and smooth. I would definitely try those products again. I’ll report back once I try the other samples. I also tried the screen cleaner on my phone and it does what is says it will, so no complaints there.

Oh yeah, just in case I ever need to reaffirm the fact I’M FREAKING CRAZY, I finally made Sephora VIB Rouge status. Yup, I’ve crossed the threshold into bat-shit crazy here people. Anyway, I have to get ready to sell some Avon at my friends party today, wish me luck! It’s my first party selling Avon and I’m no salesperson, this should be interesting.
