I just realized I haven’t done a beauty review in FOREVER. So I thought I’d select one of my recent Sephora hauls to discuss. I already bought some Fenty Beauty pieces before, so I knew I liked the quality (I’m kinda fighting with the highlighters, but we’re working things out). So I thought I’d check out the limited edition holiday 2017 collection. I’m so glad I did!
I tend to panic-purchase when things are “limited edition” and “limited quantity.” So it’s no surprise I opted to try a few things from the collection. I had to get the Galaxy Eyeshadow Palette ($59). I haven’t fully played around with it, but using a “glitter glue” eyeshadow primer is recommended. I personally use the Too Faced Shadow Insurance Glitter Glue. I believe ELF and NYX make a more affordable version, but I haven’t tried them. I really hate spending more than $40-$50 on an eyeshadow palette, but it got good reviews. The colors are so pretty in person, the pictures from my phone do this zero justice. They are so much more vibrant in person! I will post pictures of an eye look when I have a chance, I will probably use it for Halloween.
In addition to the eyeshadow, I picked up all three colors of the 2-in-1 Glitter Release eyeliner. I thought the “Nepturnt” and “Alien Bae” colors looked very similar when I first swatched them. But when they are dry, you rub them to reveal the glitter. Once I did that, you can see the colors are different. Not sure I will use “Later, Crater” as an eyeliner, as I don’t like using light colors as eyeliner. But it is so pretty, I will try it out as an eyeshadow on the inner corners.
I just noticed I haven’t reviewed anything in a while. Oops! Well we can fix that. I got a bunch of things from Sephora over the last few months. So I’ll talk about a few of them right now, and save some for later. I started using the Farsali “Rose Gold Elixir” and it’s my favorite thing ever right now. The consistency is more of an oil. I generally use it at night and even put a tiny bit on my lips. I don’t actually know if you’re supposed to apply to lips, but I do. Let me tell you, it works miracles! I only use it once a day, so hopefully I won’t die if I continue to use it on my lips. It also does wonders for my skin. My skin feels plump, smooth, and moisturized in the morning. Bonus, there are tiny 24k gold flecks in the oil and you can use it as a makeup primer. Makes me feel so glam! Which reminds me, I need to review the Peter Thomas Roth “24K Gold Pure Luxury Lift & Firm Prism Cream” at some point. I’ve been using that in the morning on top of my moisturizer. I think my goal in life is to look as youthful as C3PO? haha!
Next up is the Belif “Peat Miracle Revital Eye Cream.” I always confuse Belief with Philosophy, they have similar packaging. I’ve only used this cream a few times, so I can’t say how well it works long-term. I’m waiting to use up my current eye cream before switching. But the consistency isn’t very creamy at all. It’s almost like a gel. So it’s not watery-looking, but a bit heavy. I don’t mind the texture, I actually don’t need a lot so I feel like it will help people use less product. It’s also a bit pricey, so it’s good that you don’t need to use a lot. I did find it moisturizes really well. I only have some fine lines and wrinkles, which are mostly caused from squinting a lot. Oops! I didn’t notice if it helped or not, but I generally only notice the lines when I apply powder makeup, or use a heavy concealer. So I think the heavy consistency will help makeup not settle into lines around my eyes.
I just got the Ciate “Dewy Stix.” I have an addiction to highlighters, so I had to try this. It’s not glittery like a typical highlighter, it’s more of a subtle shimmer. It is supposed to make your skin more dewy. It does that pretty well. It’s good for times when you want a subtle glow, and not look like a show pony. You can also use it to enhance your highlighter. The product can be used under any powder highlighter, which is cool. I haven’t tested this part yet, but I’ll try to report back when I do.
So I’m just realizing Christmas is SUNDAY! Like, what?! I HAVEN’T EVEN DECORATED YET! Not that I go nuts with decorating. All we do is put up a tree and ornaments. Then I hang some stockings, and tinsel around the mantel.
But we now give Zorro (almost) full run of the apartment while we’re out. I fear he’ll eat the fake tree and poop out blue holographic fake pine well into the New Year. Plus break my R2D2 ornaments. R2Tree2 would be ruined! Also, it’s laziness at this point.
Anyway, I finished shopping in November. I also wrapped gifts a couple weeks ago. So I’m definitely ready for this Christmas business, even if my apartment isn’t. As for me, I bought myself a peachy Christmas treat! I already had the Too Faced Sweet Peach eyeshadow pallette. Now I added on the Papa Don’t Peach blush, and Peach Glow highlighter kit. Plus I got a gorgeous deep plum Urban Decay lipstick, and Boscia wipes. Treat yo self! I should probably get myself some new underwear too. I also have dump some of my old ones, that have rips in them. Haha
I probably crossed the threshold into an insane-person in regard to beauty products long ago. But I really went above and beyond today. I had been eyeing this limited-edition eyeshadow palette from Too Faced. But apparently it sold out very quickly online and no news on when/if it would be restocked. At first I wasn’t even going to bother with this palette, but I seem to collect these special Too Faced shadows. Plus I’m a sucker for peachy eye shadow. Eventually my resistance faded, and I began to try to find one on my own.
Leave it to me to decide to finally be on-board with something, after it’s already sold out everywhere. But I noticed on the Sephora site they were going to carry it in stores at the end of the week. I decided to try and see if some stores happen to get it in early. As luck would have it, the store I called near my work had ONE LEFT in stock. The man who helped me on the phone was kindly enough to set it aside for me. It happened to be near my lunch break, so I grabbed my coat and umbrella and made my way to the mall.
It’s not a mall I’m familiar with AT ALL. I’ve only been there maybe 3 times or so. I honestly had no idea where the Sephora was, and their directory didn’t even list it. WTF?! So I Googled the site for the mall and eventually found it, after power-walking the mall. Apparently I picked the parking area farthest away from the store, UGH. But no matter, I got in line and realized I left my 15% off coupon AT HOME. Thankfully since I’m a Rouge member, they hooked me up with the discount anyway. WOOHOO! Afterwards, I made my way back to work with 15 minutes to spare of my lunch break. Despite not knowing where the store was, I’m still a very speedy walker. So I made good time getting back. I can’t wait to use these shadows, they are very prettyful.
I seem to be spending more time/money at Sephora these days. I guess since I stopped being an Avon rep, I have to fill the beauty product void somehow. I’ve always been interested in trying new beauty products anyway. This one isn’t really new to me, per-se. I bought the Boscia Luminizing Black Mask from Sephora years ago, when they first started carrying it. I used it several times, but I think I ended up tossing it when I moved. I don’t recall having any issues with it the first time I bought it.
This mask made me feel like Venom from Spiderman
This time, I found it really painful to remove. I remember it being a slight pain to remove last time, but not to this extent. I’m going to blame my application and the face wash I used. I used my Clean & Clear Essentials Foaming Facial Cleanser, which can be a bit drying. That coupled with the wrong application, could have lead to the removal being difficult. You are supposed to use a thick/opaque layer. I thought I did enough, but I don’t think the layer was suitable. Also, I will be sure not to get it close to my hair line either. It ended up pulling some hair from the side of face off, haha! Given these application issues, I will definitely be trying it again.
Despite that, I did notice my skin looking a bit more even toned. The product itself is easy to squeeze out of the tube. It has a thick but smooth consistency, it feels kind of cool actually! It did remind me of Venom from Spiderman, haha! I think with prolonged use, my skin will look more luminous. I’m definitely going to give it another try. If I still don’t like it, I’ll return it. But I’m sure it will be fine, as I didn’t have issues the first time I used it years back.
Last week I got some goodies from Sephora to try! I was intrigued by the Murad acne set, F.A.B. Radiance Pads, GLAMGLOW GRAVITYMUD Firming Treatment [bonus it’s silver, so I can look like the tin man!], and the GLAMGLOW SUPERMUD Clearing Treatment.
I haven’t tried the acne kit yet, as I’m waiting to use up my current stock. I use the F.A.B Radiance Pads every morning and like the results. I decided to cut the pads in half, so this supply should last me a long time. I like the F.A.B. products I’ve used so far. Bonus, they are a company that is local to me. So I’m happy to support a local business while I’m at it.
I also bought some terribly expensive GLAMGLOW muds. I’ve heard wonders about their mud masks, and I’m a sucker for a good mask! I’ve only tried the SUPERMUD so far and really like it. I can tell from the smell it contains tea tree oil, so keep that in mind if you are sensitive to it. It can be a bit strong for some skin types, but it’s fine for me. You are supposed to use it a 2-3 times a week. But given the cost and how effective it seems after just two uses, I’ll stick with once a week. Plus, I have the GRAVITYMUD that I’d like to use once a week too.
I’m getting old, so I figure I should try some anti-wrinkle products for it’s too late for me. Thankfully I still have the skin of a 17 year-old fry cook, so my skin issues are all blemish-related. I will say the SUPERMUD seems to be helping! I have oily skin, so I don’t feel like it dries out my skin, but you do feel it tingle when it starts to dry. I’ll report back when I’ve tried the acne kit and the GRAVITYMUD.
This time I got a bunch of lipsticks. What can I say, I love Kat Von D lipstick selection. I got Coven (lavender), Adora (metallic red), and Wonderchilde (violet). I heard awesome things about Benefit Puff Off, supposed to work wonders on puffy eyes. I’ve only used it a couple of times, and it seems to work. But (thankfully) my eyes haven’t been too puffy lately since I’ve been taking massive amounts of allergy meds. So I don’t know how well it works on allergy eyes yet. I’m sad to say that Too Faced has discontinued my favorite eyeshadow primer, First Base. So I had to settle for something that comes in a tube instead of a compact container. I’m not too thrilled about this, as I generally don’t like liquidy eyeshadow primers, but I’m giving Shadow Insurance a try.
Hopefully the Shadow Insurance lasts me as long as my old container did (which was years). I know it’s not a good idea to hang onto old make up, but I just loved this primer too much to toss it. Especially when it costs like $20! I like most of the lipsticks I got, but Andy hates the lavender color. He says it makes me look like it’s still 1997, or a corpse. So I just won’t wear it around him, I can look like a 1997 corpse if I want! =P
