MDW 2018

20180530_071413.jpg

It’s been a very busy month, so Andy and I decided to stay local for Memorial Day. Plus, there was really only one good weather day. We already have some good stuff planned for 4th of July, and some beach trips. So why waste time going someplace when we would only get one day of sun? We decided to take a 9 mile bike ride and it was actually fun. I wasn’t sure if I would survive. I just started bike riding again recently, after a 20 year hiatus. Wow, I sound so old right now. BRB, going to cry in a corner! But I survived and it was fun. Thankfully it was a lot cooler along the bike path and the sun wasn’t beating down on us.

I also hung out with my friend Erin over the weekend. We binged the rest of the episodes of Cobra Kai. I can’t wait for season 2! If you’re a Karate Kid fan, I recommend checking it out. Oh yeah, I also figured out where Swansea is over the weekend when I decided to take a random road trip there with my new car (his name is Sebastian aka Winter Solider).

I took a ride to see if I could meet Lisa Vanderpump, since I’m a big RHOBH fan.  She was making an appearance to promote her new rosé. I didn’t know what to expect. I also don’t understand why the hell this event was in Swansea. You would think they would do this much closer to Boston! We found out they were staying at a hotel in Boston anyway. Swansea is about an hour outside of Boston.

Anyway, if I had pre-planned it, I would have gotten up earlier and brought my beach chair. I also would have downloaded some movies to my tablet, and brought my giant battery charger. But alas, I wasn’t all that prepared. Thankfully I had the foresight to bring some water, umbrella, I dressed warm, and wore my heavier jacket. I got there about 15 minutes before the meet and greet. They were only guaranteeing the first 400 bottles sold, a spot to get the bottle autographed and picture taken with Lisa. When I pulled in, I knew there was well over 400 people in line. The line wrapped around the parking lot. I couldn’t get a good picture, but there is one of the crazy line in my collage.

My instinct was to turn around and go home after I saw the line. But I didn’t have anything else going on that morning, so I opted to stand in line and see what happens. They did say if she had time left after the initial 400 bottles, she would get pictures with as many people as she could. We did meet Jason in the parking lot (Lisa’s son-in-law). He was nice enough to greet the massive line. We stood in line for a little over 2 hours before we got close to the entrance. But we flagged down a woman who just left, and she said she was number like 240 or something. She was just over 50% done, after two hours. Lisa had to leave by 2 and it was already past 1pm at that point. I honestly don’t think she even had time to get thru the 400 people that were supposed to be “guaranteed” a spot. I left after that, I would be more upset if I was the back half of the 400 people and got turned away. BTW, some people lined up at 4am! WHAT THE SHIT?!! I don’t like anyone that much. Bitches be crazy!

She should have hired someone else to make things more efficient. I don’t understand why they didn’t have the bottles pre-signed?! She would have saved a ton of time that way. Also, it seems like they didn’t stop people from telling Lisa their life story once they approached her. They should have someone from Comic Con running that shit. At Comic Con photo ops, they don’t allow anyone to be there for more than 20 seconds. It ensures that everyone has a chance to meet the person and get their picture. It was poorly planned and in a very inconvenient location.

On the plus side, Andy and I had a date night on Memorial Day. We saw Solo and then went out for dinner and drinks. All in all, a successful weekend, despite the time suck that was a poorly-planned celebrity meeting.

COMPLIMENTARY HOT WAX?

20171114_100005.jpg

I met Lou Ferrigno, Joonas Suotamo, and Joey Fatone at their booths, and chatted with them for a bit.

I just got back from an intense Comic Con weekend in Rhode Island with Erin. A couple other friends were there as well like Fiona & Emily.  This Con was held in two adjacent buildings, unlike Boston Comic Con which was all within the convention center. Honestly, the arena building was a NIGHTMARE. But it was the area you needed to be in if you booked a photo op with a celeb guest, also some of the celeb guest booths were located there for autographs. The area was poorly laid out, you were forced to go into one direction only, and this was at the main entrance. There was also only ONE set of stairs for up and down along the concourse. It caused a crazy bottleneck!

Unfortunately, that area remained extremely crazy all weekend. I also don’t understand why they wouldn’t allow people to use the tickets they printed at home, to use for their photo ops. I was able to do this at Boston Comic Con. Instead, we were forced to stand in this crazy long line to redeem our photo op tickets on Friday. Thankfully we did it all at once, and managed to not miss our session with Elijah Wood.

Clearly I was not excited AT ALL to meet Christopher Lloyd

Saturday was also extremely busy. But we tried to limit the amount of time we needed to spend in the Circle of Hell area (that’s what we nicknamed the arena part). Thankfully Fiona let us use her hotel passes to get into the Con from the inside entrance, so we didn’t have to stand in the cold all weekend. I think if I go next year, I’ll stay at the hotel and limit the photo ops to Sunday only.

Other than the nightmare photo op area, the convention center was great! I was able to meet some celeb guests at their booths and chat with them. On Saturday, I dressed as a Discoball Deathstar. I had to remake my Deathstar costume from a few years ago. I guess you consider it Deathstar II, except this one looks finished. Haha, there is some nerd humor for you Star Wars fans.

Joey Fatone, Theo Rossi, Samantha Newark (voice of original Jem & the Holograms), and Brian O’Halloran all loved my costume! *swoon* We totally quoted Camp Nowhere to Christopher Lloyd when we met him, we got a laugh out of him. We were probably the only people that would quote Camp Nowhere to him out of that man’s extensive film history. I always replay the carwash scene of that movie, it’s my favorite.

Deathstar Discoball, the dish part lights up! I didn’t have time to make the rest of the skirt light up.

READY RED ONE!

20171031_103058-1.jpg

I was an X-wing for Halloween

Happy Halloween, everyone! It’s my favorite holiday. Since I’ve moved back to where I don’t have to deal with annoying college kids and have wonderful things like ample parking, this means we’ll actually have trick or treaters. Not sure how to deal with it though, as my dog loses his mind every time the doorbell rings. We plan to go out for dinner and drinks tonight, so we could just hold him back when the doorbell rings until we head out for the night. But I don’t know if I want to deal with it. It’s easier just to eat the bags of candy ourselves, haha.

Anyway, I went to another Halloween party over the weekend. Fiona always does an A+ job with the decorations, this year was no exception. Andy made me into an X-Wing from Star Wars. I went with Red One so I could dress as R2D2, of course! The party was zombie-themed and my friend Emily did an awesome job with gory makeup. I’m sure her face is probably still stained red though. I had a hard time navigating the asteroid belt (party goers) in my giant costume. So I had to stay put for a couple hours until I took the X-Wing part off. I felt like Jabba the Hutt sitting around taking up 2 chairs in my giant costume. Maybe I could be Jabba next year? haha!

OUR WEDDING WAS OUT OF THIS WORLD!

FB_IMG_1506227208689.jpg

Sneak peek of the professional photos. I can’t wait to see them all!

I got married eight days ago, and am finally getting around to writing about it. I didn’t really have time to take many pictures on my own phone, so I saved a bunch from wedding guests on Facebook. I made them into some collages. In case you couldn’t tell, it was a Star Wars theme. We had a lot of fun with it.

I experimented with a video collage, no idea how it’s going to translate into this blog post. I didn’t select music, so I also don’t know what the sound will be, so be warned! Anyway, I was a bit anxious the last week before the wedding. I didn’t sleep much the night before. But that was to be expected. Everything went really well! Our ceremony was short and sweet, and my brother was the officiant. He dressed as Obi Wan Kenobi. I did an R2D2 inspired hair style, I even dyed my purple hair streak to blue.

I felt like a pinball for most of the reception, just jumping around from thing to thing. I tried to enjoy as much as possible, I danced, ate, drank, used the photo booth, and had a great time. But man, the day did fly by! I did have to escape periodically for pictures, but that was to be expected. Andy hates pictures, so that wasn’t fun for him.

I am a little sad it’s over, but also relieved. I spent so much time planning, that it is nice to have spare time and income! I can’t wait for the professional photos, I’ll be sure to post my favorites later on. We aren’t going on a honeymoon until early next year. So we went to the Cape for a few days after the wedding. We were really fortunate to have awesome weather for the wedding and Cape. It’s was very warm for late September. But I can’t wait for the fall weather to kick in, I love boot season.

I just realized I collaged the same photo twice. Oh well!

ENTERING MY LARRY BIRD YEAR

tenor

It’s my birthday, and I’m officially 33. I call it my Larry Bird year, since I’m from Boston and all. It’s also 10 days until my wedding, yikes! I’m trying to stay calm, but that is easier said than done. Today I’m going out to lunch and having a nice steak from Ruth Chris for dinner. I can’t wait, sign me up for ice cream and steak.

I forgot to post that my co-workers surprised me last week with a little bridal shower. It was very nice of them! I loved the cake, of course. haha! On Saturday, my family arranged a spa day followed by lunch, since they couldn’t make it to my bachelorette party. It was very kind of them, and I’m grateful! One of my sisters picked up some Star Wars masks and the shirt I’m wearing. I’m going to use the masks for my photo booth at the wedding. I already had some from Amazon, but doesn’t hurt to have more!

IF YOU PLAY DEFENDER, I COULD BE YOUR HYPERSPACE

hyperspace

I had a goal in mind for the weekend, it was to lock down a wedding dress. Not that I had been to a ton of bridal shops trying things on, but I had been deliberating options, and pinning dresses for months. So when I went to my second bridal appointment, I was hoping it would be one of the last appointments. As fun as dress shopping is, it can get stressful. Only because it’s a lot of pressure to find the right gown. The trouble is, I like a lot of dresses. So it was hard for me to say what I did/didn’t like about some of dresses over others. This made it a tad difficult to zero in what exactly I was looking for.

wp-1485200261079.jpg

I had basic parameters. I liked a-line or ball gown, sparkle, and tulle. That lead to so many options! I was also trying to find something different, yet traditional at the same time. So I was scratching my head as to how I would be able to find anything like that?! I also made the mistake of going to look at dresses that were out of budget. I went to a trunk show for a designer I liked. They didn’t list prices on the gowns, so I guess I didn’t think about it too much.

I honestly was just going so I could poke around and see if they had this specific dress I was trying to track down from Fall 2012. Which they didn’t. Instead I tried on some dresses that were the overall silhouette I liked. I fell in love with this amazing glittery dress, and the finding out the price was like getting shot in the face. ROOKIE MOVE. How many times have I watched wedding dress reality shows?! It’s like the cardinal rule of dress shopping, don’t bother with things out of budget. But I did. So I was feeling discouraged with trying other places, because I wasn’t sure I’d find something I liked as much as the expensive glittery one.

I ended up at Vows over the weekend. It’s outlet bridal shop, that was on the defunct TLC show “I Found the Gown.” My consultant was great! She asked me what I did/didn’t like about certain gowns. Which was tricky, because I felt like I liked a lot of the dresses I tried, and it was difficult to pin point what exactly I didn’t like about them. But she did a great job, and pulled a dress none of us saw.

We missed it because we focused on looking at full skirt styles, prior to my appointment. So we forgot to check out the a-line section. Once I put it on, I knew it was dress for me. We all agreed, including my mom. My mom and I have drastically different tastes. The best part? It was very much under budget. I named my dress Hyperspace, as the design on it, reminds me of when a ship goes into hyperspace in Star Wars. So I thought that was appropriate. Now the title of this post, makes sense, huh?

MY PRIZE WINNING PUMPKIN SKILLZ

wp-1478006258559.jpg

I can’t believe October is over already. I feel like I’ve been anxiously awaiting Halloween. It’s one of my favorite holidays, after all. But it came and went so quickly. Please enjoy my prize-winning BB-8 pumpkin! This year my department sponsored my pumpkin, so I didn’t have to pay for the supplies out of pocket. So the pumpkin is really the departments pumpkin, and they were quite impressed with my handy work. It was definitely the best pumpkin at our work party. No offense to the other pumpkins, they came out great as well. But BB-8 was a show stopper. I rigged it to flash, and stuck a Bluetooth speaker under his head to  make him beep. Making him beep was a request from one of my co-workers, and I was happy to oblige. I’m glad I happen to have a small enough speaker to get the job done.

I feel like I need a vacation from my weekends in October. I certainly jam-packed them with activities. In addition to partying it up, I’ve been trying to get back on track with my diet/exercise routine. I’ve been doing pretty well with it, just a few cheat meals mixed in. I can’t help it, I need balance, yo! I ended up jogging 5k yesterday when I got home from work. I was trying to take full-advantage of the Pokemon Go Halloween promotion. I actually did a lot better than I thought.

I hate running though, I don’t mind walking at all. I actually love walking! But I was forced to run yesterday because I didn’t have much time to squeeze in the 5k before heading out last night. Stupid Niantic, not making the game rely solely on a pedometer. I’m hoping they will do that with another build. They can’t be mean and expect us people that actually have winter to be jogging around in 6ft snow banks. HAVE MERCY ON OUR SNOW-RIDDEN SOULS! Granted, I think I’m one of three people worldwide that still plays that game. My strange commitment to it is quite maddening.

So what did I do on Halloween? I actually didn’t do much. I could have gone out and gotten more use out of my Millennium Falcon get up, but I had to much to get done. Instead Andy and I grabbed a bite to eat and met with the contractor doing the work on our apartment. He is going to start the heating/cooling system this week. Which means we’ll be getting rid of the giant old skool metal radiators in our new place. Progress!
