Sorry guys, gotta run home to watch Sailor Moon
As a kid, I took summer very seriously. It was a time for TV, ice cream trucks, running through sprinklers, riding bikes, playing Legend of Zelda or the Home Alone game on my trusty Game Boy, and eating too many Pringles. TV was the key component for me, as my dad would be at work so I had the TV all to myself! SWEET GLORY BE!
Seeing as summer is a sacred time when you’re a kid, I had to figure out a TV schedule. This was back in the day when you had to turn to the TV Guide channel or consult an actual TV Guide to figure out what time/channel a show was on. So I would use the TV Guide and a notebook to outline the times and channels of the best “day time” TV. Options were limited, as day time TV is generally boring. I mostly relied on Nickelodeon, PBS, Disney Channel (when it became available with normal cable packages, my parents wouldn’t pay for the channel outright), and Cartoon Network. I relied on my notebook to tell me what I could watch during the day. I even threw in some This old House, Aleene’s Craft Show, and Keeping up Appearances.
After lunch I would usually hang out with my friends outside. We built a really rickety tree fort. It was miraculous nobody fell off and broke a bone while using it. I also started up a Harriet the Spy club at some point. It mostly consisted of tracking peoples whereabouts, and notes on where to catch the best frogs and caterpillars. But I knew as soon as 5pm hit I had to run home to catch Sailor Moon. I would just dip out and watch Sailor Moon. After that it was dinner time!
Oh yeah, I usually chased down the ice cream man on the odd chance I had money. When I got older, my friend and I had a crush on the ice cream man, so we used to peek out the window when he drove past to get a good look at him, for our Harriet the Spy notes. Fun times! Now my summers are filled with the same exact thing I do during all the other seasons, work 40 hours a week.
It’s been quite hot this week in the city. I guess I shouldn’t complain, except it interferes with my Pokemon catching! We kept busy this weekend, but it’s not as busy as we’re going to be this upcoming weekend. Andy and I looked at a potential wedding venue on Saturday. I reached out to a bunch of places a month or so ago, and this Sheraton was at the top of my list. They look great on paper, but obviously wanted to check out the venue before making final judgments. We are waiting to get a quote back, but overall I was really impressed. As long as the total cost isn’t too crazy (it shouldn’t, because I did a quick tally on my own), then I’d like to go with it. We liked the smaller room more, but the smaller room doesn’t come with the fountain ceremony spot. Instead it comes with a small garden-type ceremony area, and the cocktail hour is by the pool. They said we could potentially have the fountain spot, but it depends if another wedding books the larger ballroom and has an on-site ceremony.
It’s not a deal-breaker for me. My ceremony is going to be short, and I won’t even be able to enjoy cocktail hour because of pictures. So wish us luck, the packages include almost everything. So all I need is a photographer, score! After the venue, we checked out the restaurant for lunch. They said catering uses the same chef and quality of food as the on-site restaurant. I have to say the food was really good. So I am confident I won’t hate the wedding food. Hopefully nobody else will either, but my mom liked it and she is a great cook. Oh yes, what is the deal with brides being nuts about the chairs for the reception? I couldn’t care less about chairs, but apparently it’s a thing. I personally DGAF, but I will draw the line at church basement folding chairs. Aside from that I won’t be doing crazy chair covers, or renting special chairs from Oklahoma. No thanks!
Aside from checking out the wedding venue, we met up with Ginny and Derek for dinner and drinks at Lulu’s. I love their fried chicken, it’s the only thing I order anymore. I should really branch out, since all the food is excellent, but I just can’t. After that, we discussed some Pokemon Go. It’s really a fun game if you haven’t checked it out. I don’t get why people shit on it so much. I mean, aside from the idiots that play while driving, dart out in front of cars, or trespass on private property. I do not condone that behavior! But I think it takes a lot of energy for people to complain about it, rather than just letting the fad pass.
I’m so tired, I feel like I could use another weekend to recover from my weekend. Thankfully it’s only a four day work week for this lady. I had to rush on Friday because there was a party at Andy’s work. We celebrated for a while then went to Whiskey’s for some dranks and stuff.
We had a good time, despite Andy spilling beer on my awesome new shark dress. I also had to walk back to his car with soggy sandals. But I washed my dress, and cleaned my sandals. I’m happy to report they don’t smell like beer anymore! I’m cutting this post short today, because I’m tired and my allergies are acting up. So I will recap more later on this week. I’m sure the one reader is at the edge of their seat in anticipation. Haha!

I forgot to post about my awesome hair, haha. I went to the salon over the weekend to get my hair done. I had her touch up the purple and add a layer of blue. There isn’t much contrast between the two colors, but I dig it. I don’t think the blue will last as long as the purple, but no matter. It seriously looks like I’m trying to make bath tub wine when I wash my hair. The dye gets everywhere. I can’t even have my nails painted a light color because the dye will turn my nails purple. It’s kind of unnerving, but beauty is sacrifice!
Anyway, I finally booked my flights for our vacation in September.Apparently Andy thought I booked them weeks ago, oops! We’re going on a really awesome desert adventure, plus a wedding. We have a laundry list of things to check out like, the Grand Canyon, Sedona, ghost towns, hot air balloon, observatory, and a trip to that abandoned plane field as featured in Can’t Buy Me Love! We will be renting a car and cruising around America’s South West. In addition to flights, I also booked some hotels for my other summer adventures. I can’t wait to go to the beach and hang with friends this summer!
I’ve been very booked up with family parties this past month. Unfortunately, it’s not over yet. Next up, we start graduation season. I know I have to go to family graduation parties. But now graduation parties for family friends are rolling in, and I’ve had enough.
I feel super guilty, it’s not their fault I have so many parties to go to. Normally, I would attend. When is the breaking point? IT’S NOW, I say! I’m making plans with a friend on the date of the family friend grad party, so I have an alibi. It turns out the party date coincides with something we wanted to do anyway, so it works out. I do feel guilty, but I will send a gift along with my regards.
We had a pretty busy weekend. It just stinks that weekends have crap weather and during the week is all nice and sunny. WTF?!! We went to a graduation party on Saturday. It was fun and we caught up with relatives we haven’t seen in a while. After the party, we had dinner and drinks with our friends that are visiting from NY. Once dinner was over, we went to the new casino that just opened. It’s a pretty small casino, but I like it. It’s great because you can wander around and not get lost, unlike every other casino out there. I only gambled $5, which I swiftly lost. Oh well, I wasn’t born a gamblin’ wo-man!
Despite it being the opening weekend, it wasn’t as crowded as I thought it would be. I mean, there were definitely a lot of people there. But it wasn’t hard to navigate around them. Plus we were able to find parking! There was a bit of a hangup getting in and around the parking garage though. But I blame that more on the stupidity of people, over the busy casino. Andy and I plan to go back for a date night at some point. Not sure if it will be during the summer though. As my summer is filling up mighty quick! Summer is so deceiving. I feel like I have all this time, but it’s already 4th of July (almost) and I have a list of things I want to do before it starts snowing again.
I’m so excited, I almost forgot to blog today!!! It’s June 1st, which is like second Christmas. It’s a magical time when all the obnoxious and entitled f-wad college kids, MOVE BACK HOME TO OHIO! Which means I might be able to sometimes find parking. It also means I won’t want to punch everyone when I go out to local bars. REJOICE!
You guys, I’m so happy right now. It’s 50 degrees out, when it was in the 90’s all weekend. But the fact the college kids are GONE, the weather won’t spoil my mood. PLUS all this rain is washing away the pollen.
