I went to Vegas with a group of friends a little over a week ago. It was a lot of fun! One of the highlights was going to old Vegas, and having a giant preying-mantis sing Queen to us.

We spent a lot of time at the pool, it was a billion degrees. One day we got a day bed, the other we got ritzy and rented a cabana. Money well-spent. We also upgraded our room. We had 2 TV’s, a living room, and nice view.  I usually stay at the Flamingo, but we ended up at The Linq, which is next door.

Adventures included burning to death, Vegas at night, and some light sun-poisoning. Thankfully I didn’t get a sunburn. I was pretty vigilant with the sunscreen.

Pardon me, I like to make weird faces in pictures!

We also went on the high roller. I’ve been on it before, but it’s still fun. Would I do it a third time? Probably not.

Next time I go, I’m spending most of my time in Old Vegas. It’s basically how Vegas is supposed to be. I also got to check out the Neon Museum at night. I’ve only gone during the day, and it gets quite hot there. It’s a cool place filled with old neon signs. One of my friends couldn’t join this time, due to her class schedule. So we’re going to plan a trip when she is done with school.

I can’t believe tomorrow is Independence Day! I have a fun trip planned filled with hot air balloons, and brewery tours.

I forgot to post about my awesome hair, haha. I went to the salon over the weekend to get my hair done. I had her touch up the purple and add a layer of blue. There isn’t much contrast between the two colors, but I dig it. I don’t think the blue will last as long as the purple, but no matter. It seriously looks like I’m trying to make bath tub wine when I wash my hair. The dye gets everywhere. I can’t even have my nails painted a light color because the dye will turn my nails purple. It’s kind of unnerving, but beauty is sacrifice!

Anyway, I finally booked my flights for our vacation in September.Apparently Andy thought I booked them weeks ago, oops!  We’re going on  a really awesome desert adventure, plus a wedding. We have a laundry list of things to check out like, the Grand Canyon, Sedona, ghost towns, hot air balloon, observatory, and a trip to that abandoned plane field as featured in Can’t Buy Me Love! We will be renting a car and cruising around America’s South West. In addition to flights, I also booked some hotels for my other summer adventures. I can’t wait to go to the beach and hang with friends this summer!

In an attempt to shorten these recaps, this is going to be my last one! So there will be more photo collages added, ye be warned! I just want to say, I broke my tradition of buying a fedora. I already bought one in NOLA earlier this year. Instead, I got myself a bejeweled cat-ear headband to wear everyday in Vegas. Anyway, we spent each morning by the pool, which was nice. We also went to see the resident flamingos at the hotel. While we were there, we got to take pictures with some macaws. It was hilarious! We were suckers and bought the whole set of pictures. Could you blame us, the birds are too funny!

One afternoon we headed to Mandalay Bay and The Luxor, we had tickets to Michael Jackson One. By the way, it was the best Cirque show I’ve seen yet, and it was the 6th time I’ve gone to Cirque. After picking up our tickets, we went to the shark reef at Mandalay Bay. I don’t know why I wanted to go so badly, aside from the fact I really like sharks. I thought it was like lot of things in Vegas, vastly overpriced. It was cool to see, but definitely very small. We tried to milk it, but had a really hard time staying a whole hour.

After that, we bought tickets to see the Titanic Artifact Collection and the Bodies Exhibit. Thankfully they have a combo ticket deal, and both exhibits are right next to each other at The Luxor. Unfortunately, we couldn’t take pictures in either exhibit, which was a little annoying. I have to say, the Titanic exhibit was really amazing and sad at the same time. It was also FREEZING! I think they kept it really cold for the full-immersion experience. Also, one of the rooms contained a man-made glacier. They also set up a replica balcony, that had a dark starry sky, like you were outside. They also re-built the grand staircase from the boat to spec. We had our pictures taken on the grand staircase, but I haven’t added them to my phone yet. So you’ll just have to deal with this gem of a photo. We laughed for about 20 minutes in the giftshop after viewing it. Oh yes, we also saw “the big piece” from the ship which was recovered from the ocean in 1998!

Once we finished, we went to the Bodies exhibit. Again, I was bummed I couldn’t take pictures. It was very fascinating! I’ve been meaning to see it over 10 years now, so I’m glad I finally got to check it off my list. They added special dyes to each area of the body, so each display almost looked like a work of art…instead of an actual dead human body. Erin was especially psyched since she happens to be taking an anatomy class this semester. So she definitely benefited from it. After the exhibits, we wandered around for a bit, got a yummy
sushi dinner, and saw MICHAEL JACKSON ONE!

During our last day in Vegas, we opted out of Old Vegas. As interesting as it is, there just isn’t a ton to do there. So we did the pool, then walked to a bunch of casinos on the The Strip. We also did some shopping…at the normal- people stores. Ain’t nobody got time for you, Yves Saint Laurent!

OKAY, now it’s time for part deux! We spent some time by the pool each day. We opted to hang out at the “family pool” instead of the 21+ party pool. I’ve never stayed at the family pool before, so it was a  nice change of pace. They had a good music selection, and since it was during the school year, not a lot of kids around. So I’ll call that a win!

After the pool, we got ready for an Elvis show! We grabbed dinner at Burgr, which is a Gordon Ramsay restaurant. I gotta say, my burger was excellent! After dinner, we got to see All Shook Up. Which is an Elvis impersonator show, and it was really good. We were very impressed with Travis Allen.

After the show, we got to meet Elvis. He was very nice!

After the show, we wandered around for a bit then went on the High Roller. I gotta say, the High Roller was awesome! The night views are fantastic! I just wish it was longer than 30 minutes, I would have liked to have gone for an hour or so. I snapped LOADS of pictures. IS ANYONE SURPRISED?! Although, I didn’t take quite as many as I usually do, since this was my 6th rodeo.

I think on this trip, I got more souvenir pictures than I’ve ever gotten. Usually I don’t buy them, but we did so many things, and the pictures were awesome. So I figured, why not?

I just got back from my sixth trip to Vegas. It was a lot of fun! I’m just glad I got to stay at the Flamingo, it felt weird not to stay there for my trip last year. Anyway, this was Erin’s first time in Vegas, and I wanted to show her a good time. So we arrived in the afternoon, to the strange abandoned terminal that blasts techno music. The good thing about arriving at the abandoned terminal is that we didn’t have to wait for a cab, which is awesome. Nothing worse than having to wait in the cab queue for 40 minutes in the blazing sun, when all you want to do is VEGAS IT UP!

Anyway, I was thankful we didn’t experience any flight delays. I was excited, and just wanted to get the vacation started. We also lucked out with the timing of getting to the hotel. We had to wait in the check-in queue for 20 minutes. But once we got to our room, changed, and headed back down, the line was CRAZY! We grabbed an Uber to Rio hotel. I never went there before, as I tend to avoid the hotels that aren’t right on the strip. I’m total strip snob, haha. We picked up our tickets to Penn & Teller. Overall, I really liked the show. I just didn’t like how Penn tried to put his own beliefs onto the audience. We also got to see one of the acts featured on their show “Fool Us”. We saw a really cool card trick from Leon & Romy. After the show, we went back to the hotel to SLEEP. At that point, we had been up for almost 24 hours, so we were ready to get some shut eye.

I just got back from a phenomenal trip to Vegas. Usually my seasonal allergies aren’t as bad there, so I was looking forward to a (sorta) break. No such luck. I forget how dry and dusty the air is. Instead of post nasal-drip and congestion, I was stuck with a dried out throat and sinus. Which only lead to me coughing a lot, instead of sneezing. Fun times!

I’m gonna try to do a few Vegas recap posts this week, but I don’t have time today. I got back late yesterday, and I was exhausted! I’m also working today. My company can’t make up their minds about giving us Columbus Day as a holiday. Personally, I think it’s a strange holiday to commemorate. But I also like having a day off, so I’d rather be sleeping. We used to have Columbus Day off up until 2 years ago. I just got the 2016 holiday schedule and they are adding it back on. Ugh, I wish they did this for 2015 so I could be in bed…or doing a crazy amount of laundry. Oh well, I’ll survive it and tell many of my bravery!

Sites around Milano: canal, train station, Expo ticket center, and Sforza castle

Sites around Milano: canal, train station, Expo ticket center, and Sforza castle

Sorry, sorry! I’ve been neglecting my blog for a few days, I’ve been busy and I’ve also grown sick of my own re-cap posts. But fear not, I’m rolling the rest of my trip into this post, so I can finally be done and go back to my meaningless sarcasm-fueled drivel. WOOO! HOWEVER, this means there will be loads of photo collages. So brace yourself, Effie!

So we spent a few days in Milano. We did some shopping, drinking, eating, walking, touring Sforza castle, the galleria, and visited  il Duomo di Milano. Oh yeah, we also went to the Expo. It was basically like Epcot but better! 140 countries set up exhibits there, which show things about the country plus food and drink! It took them a couple years at least to set up. But it’s only there until October and then it moves to another location. It’s too bad it’s not permanent.

Milano is a beautiful city to walk around. I loved roaming the streets and shopping while seeing the sites. So much history there! Next time I will do a longer trip to Italy. We also went to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. Which is one of the oldest shopping centers, and probably the fanciest I’ve ever been too. The architecture is just unreal!

This is a freaking MALL! Italy does malls all fancy!

We also visited Il Duomo di Milano church. It was beautiful! I liked that you can go on the roof and walk around the labyrinth of staircases. The views on top are fantastic, definitely worth a stop there.

Once you get to the top, they have some art installations. They were cool to check out! We took the elevators to the top, it was too hot for steps. We still had to climb steps though, there are many levels and balconies to check out once you’re there. I didn’t mind that as much.

2015-08-19 09.15.48

I still can’t get over how beautiful it is! Although I’ve been to Italy a bunch of times when I was younger, I never spent any time in Milano. I’m glad I got to do it this round. It’s too bad Andy couldn’t go with me, he’s a big history buff. He would have enjoyed the trip as much as I did.

Now on to the EXPO! We went at night because the sun is KILLER! Europe is going through a heat-wave and boy did we feel it. Even at night the Expo was still pretty warm, but at least we didn’t have to deal with the sun. 2015-08-19 09.19.07.

I don’t have a favorite country, each exhibit was more amazing than the rest. Again I wish I had more time in Italy. The Expo isn’t something you can fully experience in one night. But we made our time worthwhile and saw the major POI’s.

2015-08-19 09.20.21

I skipped over the USA exhibit because burgers and fries are something I can get at home, lol. My favorite part of the Expo was the Tree of Life show. It was incredible! I made a video, but I’m too lazy to upload, so just enjoy my collage for now. The tree changed colors and had a synchronized fountain and light show to music. There are also fireworks throughout. Definitely worth it to stay for the show!

2015-08-19 09.22.10

We stayed at the Expo well past closing, nobody kicked us out. That’s the thing about Italy, people are on a much slower and relaxed pace. That was definitely hard to get used to. I guess I like schedules and getting to places on time, lol. Anyway, after we partied in Lithuania and had some tacos and cervezas in Mexico, we left the Expo. We got some street pizza. The street pizza was actually some of the best pizza I ever had. I could tell the sauce was fresh, smelled like they slaughtered the tomatoes that day. Can I go back now?!
