I went to Vegas with a group of friends a little over a week ago. It was a lot of fun! One of the highlights was going to old Vegas, and having a giant preying-mantis sing Queen to us.

We spent a lot of time at the pool, it was a billion degrees. One day we got a day bed, the other we got ritzy and rented a cabana. Money well-spent. We also upgraded our room. We had 2 TV’s, a living room, and nice view.  I usually stay at the Flamingo, but we ended up at The Linq, which is next door.

Adventures included burning to death, Vegas at night, and some light sun-poisoning. Thankfully I didn’t get a sunburn. I was pretty vigilant with the sunscreen.

Pardon me, I like to make weird faces in pictures!

We also went on the high roller. I’ve been on it before, but it’s still fun. Would I do it a third time? Probably not.

Next time I go, I’m spending most of my time in Old Vegas. It’s basically how Vegas is supposed to be. I also got to check out the Neon Museum at night. I’ve only gone during the day, and it gets quite hot there. It’s a cool place filled with old neon signs. One of my friends couldn’t join this time, due to her class schedule. So we’re going to plan a trip when she is done with school.

I can’t believe tomorrow is Independence Day! I have a fun trip planned filled with hot air balloons, and brewery tours.

I was trying to blog more, but I fell off the wagon. To be honest, I’ve been pretty boring the last few weeks anyway. Plus I caught a case of the writers block. I’ll be in Vegas in exactly one week with a group of friends. This will mark my 7th time there.  I said I wasn’t going to buy anything new, but 4 bathing suits (cheap ones at least), 4 pairs of sandals, some new tops, and an awesome pair of sunglasses later, here we are.  One of the last times I was there, they were filming an episode of Cops. I should have followed them around, that’s the real adventure there.

I normally try to avoid Vegas during the summer months, as it is an actual furnace. But alas, here we are, going in June. 😦  It’s going to be about 1000°, according my very scientific and not exaggerated calculations. Let’s give or take a degree or two. So I will be dressing like Cam from Modern Family. I asked to borrow my friends parasol, and she no longer has it. She did recommend a giant visor she just got, and it makes her look like a bee-keeper. But I declined. I already bought a giant new floppy sunhat (it’s sparkly!) when I was in the Bahamas. I’ll be taking that along. I do tan folks, but my tolerance for boiling to death is very low. Hence why I hope I’m able to enjoy myself without my sandals melting to the pavement.

In an attempt to shorten these recaps, this is going to be my last one! So there will be more photo collages added, ye be warned! I just want to say, I broke my tradition of buying a fedora. I already bought one in NOLA earlier this year. Instead, I got myself a bejeweled cat-ear headband to wear everyday in Vegas. Anyway, we spent each morning by the pool, which was nice. We also went to see the resident flamingos at the hotel. While we were there, we got to take pictures with some macaws. It was hilarious! We were suckers and bought the whole set of pictures. Could you blame us, the birds are too funny!

One afternoon we headed to Mandalay Bay and The Luxor, we had tickets to Michael Jackson One. By the way, it was the best Cirque show I’ve seen yet, and it was the 6th time I’ve gone to Cirque. After picking up our tickets, we went to the shark reef at Mandalay Bay. I don’t know why I wanted to go so badly, aside from the fact I really like sharks. I thought it was like lot of things in Vegas, vastly overpriced. It was cool to see, but definitely very small. We tried to milk it, but had a really hard time staying a whole hour.

After that, we bought tickets to see the Titanic Artifact Collection and the Bodies Exhibit. Thankfully they have a combo ticket deal, and both exhibits are right next to each other at The Luxor. Unfortunately, we couldn’t take pictures in either exhibit, which was a little annoying. I have to say, the Titanic exhibit was really amazing and sad at the same time. It was also FREEZING! I think they kept it really cold for the full-immersion experience. Also, one of the rooms contained a man-made glacier. They also set up a replica balcony, that had a dark starry sky, like you were outside. They also re-built the grand staircase from the boat to spec. We had our pictures taken on the grand staircase, but I haven’t added them to my phone yet. So you’ll just have to deal with this gem of a photo. We laughed for about 20 minutes in the giftshop after viewing it. Oh yes, we also saw “the big piece” from the ship which was recovered from the ocean in 1998!

Once we finished, we went to the Bodies exhibit. Again, I was bummed I couldn’t take pictures. It was very fascinating! I’ve been meaning to see it over 10 years now, so I’m glad I finally got to check it off my list. They added special dyes to each area of the body, so each display almost looked like a work of art…instead of an actual dead human body. Erin was especially psyched since she happens to be taking an anatomy class this semester. So she definitely benefited from it. After the exhibits, we wandered around for a bit, got a yummy
sushi dinner, and saw MICHAEL JACKSON ONE!

During our last day in Vegas, we opted out of Old Vegas. As interesting as it is, there just isn’t a ton to do there. So we did the pool, then walked to a bunch of casinos on the The Strip. We also did some shopping…at the normal- people stores. Ain’t nobody got time for you, Yves Saint Laurent!

OKAY, now it’s time for part deux! We spent some time by the pool each day. We opted to hang out at the “family pool” instead of the 21+ party pool. I’ve never stayed at the family pool before, so it was a  nice change of pace. They had a good music selection, and since it was during the school year, not a lot of kids around. So I’ll call that a win!

After the pool, we got ready for an Elvis show! We grabbed dinner at Burgr, which is a Gordon Ramsay restaurant. I gotta say, my burger was excellent! After dinner, we got to see All Shook Up. Which is an Elvis impersonator show, and it was really good. We were very impressed with Travis Allen.

After the show, we got to meet Elvis. He was very nice!

After the show, we wandered around for a bit then went on the High Roller. I gotta say, the High Roller was awesome! The night views are fantastic! I just wish it was longer than 30 minutes, I would have liked to have gone for an hour or so. I snapped LOADS of pictures. IS ANYONE SURPRISED?! Although, I didn’t take quite as many as I usually do, since this was my 6th rodeo.

I think on this trip, I got more souvenir pictures than I’ve ever gotten. Usually I don’t buy them, but we did so many things, and the pictures were awesome. So I figured, why not?

I just got back from my sixth trip to Vegas. It was a lot of fun! I’m just glad I got to stay at the Flamingo, it felt weird not to stay there for my trip last year. Anyway, this was Erin’s first time in Vegas, and I wanted to show her a good time. So we arrived in the afternoon, to the strange abandoned terminal that blasts techno music. The good thing about arriving at the abandoned terminal is that we didn’t have to wait for a cab, which is awesome. Nothing worse than having to wait in the cab queue for 40 minutes in the blazing sun, when all you want to do is VEGAS IT UP!

Anyway, I was thankful we didn’t experience any flight delays. I was excited, and just wanted to get the vacation started. We also lucked out with the timing of getting to the hotel. We had to wait in the check-in queue for 20 minutes. But once we got to our room, changed, and headed back down, the line was CRAZY! We grabbed an Uber to Rio hotel. I never went there before, as I tend to avoid the hotels that aren’t right on the strip. I’m total strip snob, haha. We picked up our tickets to Penn & Teller. Overall, I really liked the show. I just didn’t like how Penn tried to put his own beliefs onto the audience. We also got to see one of the acts featured on their show “Fool Us”. We saw a really cool card trick from Leon & Romy. After the show, we went back to the hotel to SLEEP. At that point, we had been up for almost 24 hours, so we were ready to get some shut eye.

I’m attempting my Vegas recap now, while it’s still fresh in my head. My friends and I landed Friday night 5/23. I didn’t sleep on the plane because I’m crappy at sleeping while seated. But also, I was across from the worst case of ADHD I’ve ever had the misfortune of being trapped with 6 hours. I have no idea what his actual name is, but I dubbed him Lil’ Kevin. Lil’ Kevin looked to be in his early 20s’ and had a group of 5 other “bros” with him. His friends weren’t that annoying, it was Lil’ Kevin that I wanted to spike his drink with a hippo tranquilizer. He couldn’t sit down or shut up for more than a 20 second period. He garnered about 15 seconds of sleep while throwing his legs Indian-style on the seat tray-table. He also wore a bucket hat. I don’t think he got the memo that it’s not 1998 anymore? After we landed, my friends and I booked it as fast as we could to the monorails in a vain attempt at not sharing a tram with him. This was futile, of course Lil’ Kevin selected the same tram. 😐

Anyway, we got our luggage and got stuck in the world’s longest rope maze for a cab. Side note: next year I’m totally opting for a car service! Thankfully it was nighttime, so no searing heat. Once we got to the Venetian, it was a long walk to our room that included two elevators. I think next year I’m staying at the Wynn! The room and hotel were gorgeous though (the room had a sitting area, 2 TV’s, and giant bathroom), and has multiple pools. We never had to struggle getting seats! Jamie and I went to Walgreens to stock up on food, water, and BOOZE. Then we decided to be lame and go to bed. We had a 6AM bus to the Grand Canyon the next day.

Fri Fri2

After only getting 4-5  hours of sleep, we trekked over to Treasure Island to grab our tour bus. We used the Comedy on Deck tours which included two hot meals and entrance to the Grand Canyon western rim and Hoover Dam. We didn’t stay at the dam very long, but there isn’t much to see there without doing a tour. Once we got to the canyon, we took some pics and paid admission to the Skywalk bridge. They make you wear boot covers while on the glass bridge, to protect the surface. They also don’t allow cameras or bags along the bridge. So we ended up paying for a picture package in what was the most memorable cheesy photoshoot of our lives. The pictures were definitely wayyy over-priced, but we had a lot of fun having our pictures taken. At one point, I worm-crawled across the bridge!

After some delicious BBQ lunch, we  climbed a rock ledge to get spectacular 360* views of the canyon. Thank God we both wore sneakers! We were exhausted by the time we got back to the bus. The guides were able to get us back to Vegas early. We had enough time to shower and get to Serendipity 3 for dinner. I threw on my dress from Ideeli, which is like a rainbow tie-dye design. We also saw Frank Marino’s Diva show, it was awesome! After that, we went to Hyde nightclub at Bellagio. I’m not a club person, so at first I wasn’t having any fun. But after some beers, I danced my face off! I didn’t leave until 3:30am.

On Sunday, we got some spots over by the pool. Then during the afternoon, Jamie and I took a walk to the Mirage for lunch at Carnegie Deli (read GIGANTIC SANDWICHES!). We also walked over to Planet Hollywood to pick up our tickets for the Zombie Burlesque show. Once we had the tickets, I went to the Flamingo to buy my annual Vegas-trip fedora. I was hoping to make it a blue year, but they had limited color selection this time around. So silver it is! That night I threw on my ombre bandage dress from Express and got ready for the awesome Zombie Burlesque show, we had 2nd row seats! We then grabbed dinner at Sugar Factory and went back out to a club. This time we went to Chateau in Paris Hotel. It was only an ok time, the music was kind of weird!

Sun Sun2

On Monday, we went to the pool again. I mean, why not?! That night, I had on my seriously awesome studded feather dress from BeBe. I think I left a trail of feathers in my wake, but I need another occasion to wear it. We had dinner that night at Bouchon for Lizz’s birthday and it was AMAZING! We also went to a cheesy male-stripper show at the Riviera. That end of strip is a bit deserted, so I wouldn’t recommend staying at that end of Vegas. They brought Lizz on stage for a “blind date” with a stripper. It was so cheesy and awesome! Once the show was over, we headed to the Wynn because we were on the guest list for Club XS and Zedd was playing. We had time to kill, so we made friends with the bartender at Society. Now, I did mention that I’m not a club person. So believe me when I say XS was awesome! It’s really cool inside and you can hang out in the pool area as well. I stole glow sticks from someone’s table and danced like it was 1999 all night long. I took a glow stick home. Free souvenir!

Mon Mon2 Mon3

We went back to the pool again on Tuesday, trying to soak it in since it was COLD and rainy back home. We were able to get ready for dinner early, I opted for my sequin flapper-inspired dress. We went to Tao for some seriously amazing sushi! That night we went to the Criss Angel show at the Luxor. I think it was because were all so tired from too many 4am nights, that the show was only ok. BUT, they did move us from the middle section to like 5 rows back! I think the people next to us were mad we got a free upgrade. I’m opting for David Copperfield next year.  I’m sure his facial expressions alone will keep me awake! Since Tuesday is industry night, there were only a few clubs that were open. So we went back to Hyde, but only stayed until 1 or 2am this time. I think we had partied too much the last few nights and had like no energy!

Tues2 Tues3 Tues4

The next day we had to pack up to catch an afternoon flight back home. We had an awesome breakfast at Bouchon and am happy to report we experienced no delays getting back to cold and rainy Boston. I already have a list of things prepared for Vegas 2015!

PS. Can I also just mention how WEIRD it was to not stay at the Flamingo or go to events with 60+ people?! I ended up strolling through the Flamingo a few times during my visit, because honestly, I MISS BISC SO MUCH!

It feels weird that I’ve gone 11 days without blogging! Don’t worry folks, I’m still alive. I’ve just been busy the past couple of weeks. I just got back from Vegas and have a mountain of dresses and sequin items to wash and put away! Thankfully we experienced no flight delays. But, I think next year we should opt for a car service to get us from McCarran to our hotel, the taxi line is just way to long and zig-zagged. Thankfully since we landed at night, we didn’t have to deal with blazing heat while being herded thru the world’s largest rope maze. We had a suite at the Venetian hotel, it was amazing! My only complaint is just it takes FOREVER to get to the room, it involves two elevators and a ton of walking. The good news, at least I was able to get a workout in! I should have requested tomorrow off, but it’s too late now. I’m not looking forward to going back to work, but at least it’s only for one day.  I have to work on a Vegas recap post with collages, but I want to spend the rest of the day catching up on my DVR. For now, I will leave you with one of the many photos from our cheesy Grand Canyon skywalk shoot.
