OH, HELLO THERE!

Dude, so sorry! I forgot I had a blog for a while. I’ve been busy with moving and getting things done around my new place. We’re mostly settled in, but still have some boxes left to unpack. I also have a ton of pictures to hang, and I need to get a nice bookcase for my R2D2 collection. But I’m hoping to get one soon. I also had to jump back into wedding-planning mode, since I took a break to get moving sorted out.

This weekend will be a busy one! I have two birthday celebrations. One is for Fiona, and the other is for Andy. There is also Mothers Day this weekend as well, and we’re having a birthday cake for my dad and sister. Oof, I know a lot of Taurus’ (Tauri?). I plan to post my Trunk Club (link has my ref code) review sometime next week.

RICK ROLLED IRL

wp-1487787139778.jpg

Saturday was an interesting night. Andy and I wanted to grab some burgers and booze for dinner. We had plans to see a friends cover band play in the area. We didn’t intend to stay for the whole set. The cover band was playing in the Foundation Room of the House of Blues. Meanwhile, down in the actual concert venue, Rick Astley was having a concert. I guess it was the last night of his tour for a while. We watched him on the TV’s upstairs, and they piped in the concert audio for us.

I give Rick a lot of credit. He played a 45 minute encore! Once his show was done, the cover band started to play. They were good, loads of Step Brothers references thrown in, they won me over just on that alone. About an hour into their set, none other than Rick Astley himself shows up. He asked to play with the band (Mr. Doubtfire) for a bit. This was a huge surprise, and we weren’t being Rick Rolled. I figured he would play a few songs, and be on his way. His tour manager told us they had to leave back to England early in the morning, so he was trying to keep Rick on a tight schedule.

It was quite the spectacle to see Rick Astley basically have a private concert for us. There was probably only about 40 or 50 people at the Foundation Room. I have to give him serious props, he played various cover songs with Mr. Doubtfire for a good hour and a half before calling it quits. So much for trying to leave early! We stayed until almost closing time. Which means there was a huge line for hot dogs when we left, so we couldn’t get any food from Sausage Guy. Bummer! But hey, we got a free private concert from Rick Astley, so I can’t complain.

FACE OF DUNKINS

Yesterday a ton of my Facebook friends, posted this funny SNL video featuring Casey Affleck . I feel like it might be lost on people that aren’t from New England. But it’s hilarious!

Over the weekend, Andy and I saw Manchester By the Sea. It’s a movie that Casey Affleck wrote and starred in. I didn’t know what to expect from the movie. It’s an independent film, and we saw it at a small theater near my new office.

I haven’t been to that theater in over 15 years, it used to only show foreign films. I went with my my mom once to see an Italian movie back in the day. I actually liked the movie. ANYWAY, Manchester by the Sea was a bit depressing. I got a little teary-eyed at some parts. Overall, I liked it. But it’s definitely a tear-jerker.  YE BE WARNED! We also went to dinner after at one of my favorite restaurants. That cheered me up a tad.

This week is short, but will drag. After Thursday, I’m not going back to work until January. I usually try to take the last week of December off. Hope I can continue this tradition. I also took last Friday off. I was sad I missed our company Christmas party, but lounging around my house prevails.

PIANO MAN

wp-1481037089425.jpg

Looks like I forgot to blog yesterday. This month is a bit crazy! My work is moving locations, and I will have a much shorter commute. Also, my new office won’t be in the middle of the woods, so it will be nice to be in civilization. Although, they did open a huge new strip mall (sort of) near my work. So the last year or so, haven’t been bad for this boondocks worker. But now I have to pack up my desk, which isn’t fun. I’ve been trying to dump things, but looks like I’m going to need more than 3 crates, only because my filing racks and binders take up a ton of space. UGH.

At least it will be easier after we move, I can walk to places for lunch and shopping. Plus I can run errands during lunch, e-gads! The best part of all, I will be near tons of Pokestops! Haha! I know I’m like one of 3 people worldwide still playing Pokemon Go, but I’m very close to getting all of the original Pokemon (that are available to my region). My goal was to try and get as many as possible, before they add  100 more to the game. Let’s see how far I can get.

Anyway, I had a pretty fun weekend. One night we ended up at the bar near my place. We noticed a piano stored on the balcony, and wanted to play it. I think I convinced a guy to attempt to climb the balcony to play it, but I didn’t want to witness him getting kicked out, so I told him to not bother.

BEARIZONA, HERE I COME!

wp-1477054991255.jpg

I figure I should probably blog about my fun trip to Arizona, before I forget what I did. Anyway, we mostly stayed in Flagstaff and Phoenix. These cities have vastly different temperatures. When we arrived in Phoenix, I was boiling to death. Flagstaff was about 30 degrees cooler. But I still wore shorts or dresses during the day. The cold didn’t really get to me until the night hours, where things drastically cool down in the mountains. Flagstaff was gorgeous, I also liked the hotel we stayed in. The rooms were a bit retro, but HUGE. So I wasn’t complaining. The hotel itself is very nice. They have beautiful grounds, attached hiking trails, and a nice pool area.

We did end up spending a day in Sedona. We mostly wandered around and enjoyed the rock formation views. I did a vortex Jeep tour, but didn’t feel any of the “healing” vibes you are supposed to when you visit each site. No matter, the views were fantastic and glad we got to see the vortex areas. The food was good as well. While we didn’t eat at the only McDonald’s to have turquoise arches, but we did get a nice steak from a restaurant that boasts great views.

The whole reason for the trip was to go to a friends wedding. The wedding was at the hotel we were staying at, and it was awesome. I was so happy to see my friends get married. It also made me excited for my wedding next year. The ceremony was beautiful and the reception was so fun. I also cactused the crap out of myself. I wore a cactus dress, cactus necklace, and had cactus Jamberry wraps on my nails.

Another day, we went to Bearizona. It’s a drive-thru wildlife park. That was a cool experience, as I’ve never done a drive-thru park before. We saw wolves, bears (duh), donkeys, buffalo, goats, and all sorts of critters. The park also has a walk-around area, that is basically like a zoo. That was fun to walk through as well. I made friends with a peacock, who was jonesin’ for some French fries. All in all, a fun time!

wp-1477054991239.jpg

By the time we headed back to Phoenix, we were pretty tired. We didn’t do much aside from hanging by the pool, and going out for food and drinks. As fun as the trip was, I’m happy to be back home. Arizona was way to dry for me, I woke up everyday feeling like I swallowed a bucket of sand. Normally the desert doesn’t bother me that much. I go to Vegas around once a year, and the air didn’t bother me quite as much as it does in Arizona.

I’m so happy it’s Friday. Tonight I’m going to a friends birthday party. But tomorrow I’m going to a comic con, and I’m super excited about it. My friend and I have been talking about it non-stop.

HELLO, BLOG!

A lot has happened the past couple of weeks, and I forgot to blog. Now I don’t know where to begin? I guess we can start with some important news. I set my wedding date and venue. After scouting a bunch of places online for their packages, meal options, and price point, we went with the second place we actually visited. It’s a local hotel that offers some really good deals, that are a good value (as far as weddings go). I’m very happy to have the venue, food, date, DJ, flowers, and cake figured out. It’s all included with the package. That takes most of the major things off the list. I probably won’t do much else in the area of wedding planning for the rest of this year.

Anyway, is it sad that I’m still tired from the weekend? On Thursday we went out for dinner and drinks. The pretzels in the picture were sooo good. I just love soft pretzels. I also recall catching a lot of Pokemon in the restaurant parking lot, haha.

Did I mention it’s been INSANELY hot in Boston for a couple of weeks now? Well Friday was certainly no exception. I met up with some friends at the bar. I decided to walk, thinking it would be cooler out. It wasn’t, dear diary. It was not cooler AT ALL. It was so stinking humid. I thought once I got to the bar, it  would be nice and cool. NOPE.

Turns out, they have the suckiest air conditioning ever. Or maybe it wasn’t working? I honestly don’t remember. I just remember it being really fucking hot, to the point where I went outside every time one of my friends wanted a cigarette just to cool down. I did get a Coronarita, that helped. But the bar refused to open the windows, despite it being cooler outdoors. It was supposed to rain, but it never happened so that’s why they didn’t want to open the windows at first. After the bar, we went to a friends house to enjoy her porch. But I didn’t get to stay long. I had to go to a party down the street, which we could hear from the porch. The party was fun, but it was just too darn hot at their new place. There was typical stuff like beer pong and flip cup.

So Saturday I had (yet another) party to attend. It was for a friends birthday, he has it every year in his back yard. At least on Saturday it wasn’t really humid. So hanging outside was fine. I was even able to find some Harpoon Camp Wannamango at the liquor store. I took their last 12 pack, yippie!

OMG, this is like the blog post that never ends. Sorry, I’m almost done. On Sunday, Andy and I went to a show. We pretty much go every year, the line up was pretty good for Summerland 2016. We saw Sponge, Lit, Sugar Ray, and Everclear. This time only Sponge came out to sign autographs and take pictures. I’ve met Sponge a few times already, they are very nice to their fans. I might edit this post later and drum up some of the pictures I took with Vinnie (the lead singer) from Sponge. In previous years, I met Eve 6, Filter, and Alien Ant Farm as well. The show was very good. Hell, even Mark McGrath made fun of himself for still having highlights. Gotta love the 90s’, amirite? Oh yes, there were lots of people wearing hemp necklaces, bucket hats, and sporting mushroom cuts. It was quite the sight!

CHAIRS ARE IMPORTANT…?

FotorCreated2

It’s been quite hot this week in the city. I guess I shouldn’t complain, except it interferes with my Pokemon catching! We kept busy this weekend, but it’s not as busy as we’re going to be this upcoming weekend. Andy and I looked at a potential wedding venue on Saturday. I reached out to a bunch of places a month or so ago, and this Sheraton was at the top of my list. They look great on paper, but obviously wanted to check out the venue before making final judgments. We are waiting to get a quote back, but overall I was really impressed. As long as the total cost isn’t too crazy (it shouldn’t, because I did a quick tally on my own), then I’d like to go with it. We liked the smaller room more, but the smaller room doesn’t come with the fountain ceremony spot. Instead it comes with a small garden-type ceremony area, and the cocktail hour is by the pool. They said we could potentially have the fountain spot, but it depends if another wedding books the larger ballroom and has an on-site ceremony.

It’s not a deal-breaker for me. My ceremony is going to be short, and I won’t even be able to enjoy cocktail hour because of pictures. So wish us luck, the packages include almost everything. So all I need is a photographer, score! After the venue, we checked out the restaurant for lunch. They said catering uses the same chef and quality of food as the on-site restaurant. I have to say the food was really good. So I am confident I won’t hate the wedding food. Hopefully nobody else will either, but my mom liked it and she is a great cook. Oh yes, what is the deal with brides being nuts about the chairs for the reception? I couldn’t care less about chairs, but apparently it’s a thing. I personally DGAF, but I will draw the line at church basement folding chairs. Aside from that I won’t be doing crazy chair covers, or renting special chairs from Oklahoma. No thanks!

Aside from checking out the wedding venue, we met up with Ginny and Derek for dinner and drinks at Lulu’s. I love their fried chicken, it’s the only thing I order anymore. I should really branch out, since all the food is excellent, but I just can’t. After that, we discussed some Pokemon Go. It’s really a fun game if you haven’t checked it out. I don’t get why people shit on it so much. I mean, aside from the idiots that play while driving, dart out in front of cars, or trespass on private property. I do not condone that behavior! But I think it takes a lot of energy for people to complain about it, rather than just letting the fad pass.
